Icaruswho can hold my hand now that the darkness draws so near?Icarus9 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
too near to the stars above, dissolved my waxen wings;
there's so much beneath me that i can't help but fear;
in the seas far below, a haughty siren sings.
"oh poor poor icarus, you're a fool to fly so high,
your wings are not yet sturdy, nor could they be in time,
king or pauper, all men dream of touching the sky,
but you, who are so thoughtless, could not resist the climb."
and now the mortals weep for me, poor dedalus' son;
lying broken and fallen on the floor of the Creten Sea;
no voices to comfort me, even mock me - there are none;
my father escaped this fate, my fall, my tragedy.
life that escapes me, leaves me hopeless, now death
will come to me; sweet agony of my final leaving breath.

Wonder coursing through my veins
This is beauty at it's best
Racing the wind on wings of wax
Awestruck by ecstasy, pumped to the max
Riding the currents into a crest.
Heartrate speeding, flicker quick
Stomach churning, getting sick
Soaring higher than the rest.
Sun so bright upon my face
I shouldn't have come to this place
My fragile wings can't stand the test.
Falling faster to my doom
Not afraid of death that looms
Broken bird returned to nest.

I Bóg pomyślał, że chyba człowieka stworzył
Że ostatniego dnia pracy nie wyszła Mu doskonałość
Ulepił, zważył i zmierzył
i sam musiał to przyznać
iż miast ideału stworzenia powstał jedynie
Więc zebrał się w sobie potrójnie
pot tęczą zwilżył Mu czoło
i zaczął poprawiać sam siebie
Wziął żebro i nieskończoność
ozłocił pyłem piękności bezkresy wdzięku, talentu
Duszę w ten sposób powstałą przyodział w gwiezdność diamentów
Oprawił w ciało z kryształów
kwitnących wzdłuż mlecznych dróg
Tak powstał pierwszy poemat
(bo pierwszym poetą był Bóg)
Idea tworzenia przyświeca

I listened to you cry and heave empty breaths of air into the phone for ten minutes straight, all the while trying consistently to hold myself together.
I wouldnt allow myself to let you see me in pieces.
The thought of being without you hurt like pins in my heart,
But I wouldnt give in. When did I stop being so strong?
My mind rotated at miles a minute and my heart just thumped irregularly, so bad that I actually had to count my breaths in and out.
And what am I know? What relief do I have from all that pain?
Im too stupid to admit that I still need you,
But Im lenient enough to say that I do miss you, that maybe this was something a little larger than another relationship to write down in my little black book.
I remember how you would lay your head on my chest and listen to my heartbeat.
I would give anything to fall asleep to that each night.
And my fingers feel numb without your lips,
And how youd kiss each tip,

But my eyes are still dry,
for the time being,
and I am okay that we may
not be friends next week,
but I will keep our happiest
memories to myself to

IcarusWho are you, and what am I?Icarus7 years ago in Spoken Word More Like This
Remember me? I touched the sky
I flew too hard and burned too fast
Dreams like mine, they just don't last
I touched the sun on feathered limbs
I satisfied my wildest whims
But I burnt out, and I fell down
My body wasn't ever found
But don't remember me for how I failed
I embody all the dreams that've sailed
So who are you, and what am I?
Remember me? I wasn't afraid to fly.
A Strange Letter FoundA Strange Letter Found7 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
A much-folded and faded letter was found among the personal papers of Professor Howard Rice after his death in 1936. The contents, more than a little puzzling and troubling, are presented here unedited for your review.
June, 17th, 1908.
My Dear Friend Howard,
I am writing to you, from my room at the Kempler Arms, a run-down inn located in the God-forsaken port of Rockfish Harbor, North Carolina. I have just drank the contents of a bottle of brandy in the vain attempt to calm my nerves enough that I may commit the events of the last few days to paper before I collapse into much needed slumber.
I came here, as you may recall, to study the lasting enigma of the disappearance in 1587 of the English colony on Chapanoke Island. In my mind, it is a great mystery, more than worthy of ranking alongside the more commonly known tale of the Mary Celeste. As you may remember, she was an abandoned ship found off the coast of Portugal in 1872. None of the her crew or passengers were ever found

All I see is down
A mighty fall
Worst folly of all
From such great heights
One could touch the sky
If one knew to fly
A wasted life
At such great heights
Nothing touches me
Not even the breeze
From such great heights
The wax begins to melt
The feathers fall away
As a god I felt
At such great heights
What was the cost
All that was gained
Is now lost

That was a year ago, when Slender man came. I still don’t believe it, a killer who didn’t kill.
Christmas Eve, yet another snowy day of December. I walk down the cracked pavement towards home. I hug my puffy coat against me. Cold air whips against my face. I lick my cracked lips. A few snowflakes scatter to the ground.
“Hey Chris,” I turn around and narrow my eyes at a dark figure behind me; my ex-boyfriend TJ. Who else would call me by my nickname, Chris, instead of Christina, my real name? “I said never to talk to me again.” I growl, trying to sound intimidating. He walks over to me. Huh, his cheek is still swollen from the last time I saw him, when I punched him, hard.
“C’mon babe,” he touches my shoulder. I jerk away. “Are you still mad at me?”
“Let’s see; you’ve been drunk, twice, you’ve crashed my car and slept with a different wo
What is Democratic Socialism? What is Democratic Socialism?2 years ago in Articles & Interviews More Like This
Democratic socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democraticallyto meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives. Democracy and socialism go hand in hand. All over the world, wherever the idea of democracy has taken root, the vision of socialism has taken root as welleverywhere but in the United States. Because of this, many false ideas about socialism have developed in the US. With this pamphlet, we hope to answer some of your questions about socialism.
Doesn't socialism mean that the government will own and run everything?
Democratic socialists do not want to create an all-powerful government bureaucracy. But we do not want big corporate bureaucracies to control

Long and sharp,
Run up and down your shivering body,
Gently, like playing a harp.
Long, soft strokes,
My snow white hand moves,
And grabs your head,
While my voice soothes.
I whisper calming thoughts,
Putting calming things in your mind,
With my voice and my eyes,
I hold you in a bind.
Yet that does not stop the shivering,
The fear in your face,
You do not understand,
Me, or my race.
Tempted, and temped no more,
My long-since dead heart beats,
Wanting to live again,
Wanting to taste your blood like sweets.
It is no longer I can wait,
I sink my fangs into your flesh,
Into that skin so pale with fear,
The skin of a maiden, so very fresh.
I wait for but a moment,
Until your fear turns to pleasure,
Still in my bind,
The pleasure I can measure.
Higher than sex,
But only good for one,
At least you don't have to worry,
About bearing me a son.
Your blood, filled with pleasure,
Seeps past my lips,
It's texture, it's power,
I drink it slowly, only in sips.
Strong like wine,

1. When you talk to him, finish EVERY sentence with "dude" or "man".
2. Print out BubblegumXMarceline and poster them all over his and Jake's house.
3. Dress like the horse poobrain (The Eyes) and stand outside their house. EVERY NIGHT.
4. Tell Finn that you go for Ice King.
5. Constantly remind him that he's the only human left (exclude Susan, if she is one).
6. Tell him that Princess Bubblegum will never love him, cause she has secret hots for Ice King (not really, just to annoy him).
7. Run around him and sing the opening theme song ALL day. "ADVENTURE TIME, COME ON GRAB YOUR FRIENDS, WE'RE GOING TO VERY, DISTANT LANDS..." If he finally tells you to shut up, start to sing the Fionna and Cake song instead.
8. Show him the original opening art of "The Enchiridion!" (if you haven't seen it, google)
9. Go to Lumpy Space Princess and tell her Finn wants some of her lumps.
10. Ask Finn what kind of shampoo he uses (To Cut A Woman's Hair).
11. Steal BMO so Finn and Jake can't play on it.

Run me through
Put me out of my misery, i've come to expect no less.
Dont torture me. Its all the same in the end.
But i cant take these emotions
I can't take the pain these feelings lend
And i really thought we'd make it.
I thought somehow we'd prevail.
I never thought i'd live to leave you
Never truly thought we'd fail.

Oto miejsce gdzie w mroku
łózko leży samotnie
Patrzy w sufit i tęskni
z ziewającym wraz oknem
Z boku na bok się rzuca
ale zasnąć nie może
Wciąż zadaje pytania
Ile nocy upłynie, ile gwiazd jeszcze spłonie
zanim w nim zamiast "o mnie"
będzie "o mnie i o Niej"
I wypluwa mi pościel
i odgryza mi sen
kiedy razem z talerzem, kotem, stołem i ścianą
zjemy szybko śniadanie i wyjdziemy gdzieś żyć
Łóżko myśli, kiedy też będziesz w nim

Summer FancyThe blackened wrinkly arms of oscious treesSummer Fancy7 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
Unfurl their handfuls. Eager flowers dip
And sweat their secret wish into the breeze.
They doze in dreams of juice. I wet my lips.
A sunburnt fruit swells fat in summer fires.
It crooks the creaking branch and sips the sap
And drooping low, drips dew on my desires.
Desire sweetens in my swollen lap.
My dreams of dribbling juices smoulder. Thirst
Unslaked for cinnamon skin and peeled flesh
Twists in my throat, and smoking glances burst
And spill their hopeful nectars in the ash.
But trees withhold their treasures from my tongue;
My sticky prayers lie rotting in the dung.
A Fireman's HaikuThe alarm goes offA Fireman's Haiku6 years ago in Haiku & Eastern More Like This
In a mad dash we go quick
Into the unknown
Sirens blaring loud
Red lights casting dark shadows
Into the night air
Unsure of what is
We venture into the night
To help a victim
We do it for them
Not for gratification
But to help someone
Many dont get it
Its a firefighter thing
Thats all I can say
To save a person
Or a belonging or friend
Is one thing we do
Protection of lives
Is another specialty
That we believe in.

"Honey, it is time to get out of bed," said Robert to his wife, as he made his way to the bathroom.
"Just 5 more minutes' honey," responded Mandy as she dug her head deeper into her pillow.
"Just be out of bed before I'm out of the bathroom please honey. We have a lot of work to do today in preparation for the horse race we have next week," said Robert matter of factly.
That is when both of them heard what seemed to be clomping downstairs. Mandy suddenly was wide awake and jumped out of bed. Robert seemed confused but attentive.
"What is that!? Is that a horse I hear downstairs?' said Mandy puzzled. 'If that is our daughter downstairs ruining the tile floor then she is deep trouble." Mand

Most give up at the rise of day,
content to wish their life away.
They sit and watch this hopeless start,
letting their dreams fall apart.
Still those few must seize the day.
And should the sun take their wings away,
Positively they should find it right,
To fly unrevealed alone at night.
