These berries were frozen stiff from the ice and snow that likes to suddenly come upon Ohio in the winter months, after it was warm and sunny but a few days before. They are a testament to the saying that if you don't like the weather in Ohio, simply close your eyes and count to 10. New weather will be on your way before you know it!
This is a picture of a particularly rapid section of the North Fork of Big Pine Creek. After I took this photo I actually fell in - I'm willing to bet that most adventurous photographers have a story like this to tell. The camera survived, I held it up out of the water as I clung to a rock with my other hand. My friend helped me out and I dried out shortly thanks to all synthetic clothing that doesn't absorb water.
it's a shame i didn't have a better camera back when this happened, and it's a bigger shame i didn't take the original photo in landscape orientation; i'd have liked it to fit this format a bit better.
