Sherlock's sitting by himself at a small table next to the window in the Library, his chin in his hand, the fingers of his right hand absently drumming on the wooden surface beneath them.

He stares because his brain seems to have shut down and he can't think of anything else to do but stare.
He stares with a gaping mouth and almost panicked eyes until Sherlock's grip tightens on John's upper arms and he shakes him, ever so slightly.
John blinks and shakes his head.
"That's not what you said." He sounds distant and unsure, his head turning to stare at Sherlock suspiciously from the corners of his widened eyes.
"What? Yes it is," Sherlock insists, but John's pulling away, his eyes still stuck in deer-in-the-headlights mode, looking for all the world like Sherlock had just smacked him instead of confessing-- well, confessing what he did.
