Texas Abortion Bill FilibusterIn case you live outside the USA and haven't heard of this yet, Texas was preparing to vote on a radical bill that would effectively outlaw abortions within their boarders. Senator Wendy Davis came in early in the morning with the expressed intent of filibustering: The goal being to delay the critical vote.Texas Abortion Bill Filibuster1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Wendy Davis talked for 11 hours straight. No food. No drinks. No bathroom breaks. She couldn't even pause for a moment to take a sip of water or else she'd give up the floor and the vote could get underway. 11 hours straight she talked and just before the midnight cutoff she was interrupted, and the vote began... only to become absolute pandemonium as the crowd watching protested the interruption.
The GOP insists that the vote carried and passed, while the Democrats insist that they were still taking votes after the midnight cutoff thanks to the chaos that ensued. This is going to be one of those instances where the GOP are gonna try to lie and shove their way through our diplomatic

FergusonFirst off, I wanna state that I am not a journalist. This whole ordeal has been extremely messy and filled with a lot of conflicting information, so chances are what I write here might not be 100% accurate or be based on slightly incorrect information. I’ll do my best to explain it simply, but if you really want to know what’s going on it’s probably best to just google it yourself because... really... this is a mess. I'm sure plenty of other people will add info in the comments below or links to appropriate videos/tweets.Ferguson4 months ago in Personal More Like This
What happened here in Missouri
It all started when a cop shot an unarmed black teenager named Michael Brown for “jaywalking” in Ferguson, Missouri. Witnesses say Michael Brown, 18, had raised his hands to surrender when the shots were fired. Police have not confirmed that information.
Shortly afterwards a group of people approached the police department in peaceful protest and demanded answers and information, a lot of
About my TMNT rantGot a long journal head of you. I tried to break it up a bit so you can skim parts.About my TMNT rant4 months ago in Personal More Like This
It appears some people were a little less than happy with the idea that I’m not going to see the new TMNT movie, yet have already formed a negative opinion about it. Some people, who don’t understand what the word means, are calling this “hypocritical” since I often ask that people try to see both sides of an issue, so taking a definitive stance here with (what appears to be to them) incomplete data is wrongheaded of me. So now I gotta write this journal to explain my actions better. Hope you’re happy ‘bout that...
It’s just a movie! Why does it matter?
Because it’s not JUST a movie. Movies do not exist in a vacuum. How well (or bad) a movie does informs YEARS of upcoming movies and careers. Thousands of people’s jobs are dictated on the whim of what the box office rankings are for opening weekend. A now famous example is Guillermo

The Role of Men in Geek SocietyThis is a reposting of a tangent I went off on over on Twitter the other day (with some extra clarification added to make it a little more cohesive). I felt that in the wake of all this GamerGate/Feminism/Women in games/comics/geek culture stuff going on that I should at least talk about men’s relationship to it all. So here ya go!The Role of Men in Geek Society3 months ago in Personal More Like This
It's not that harassment of men doesn't happen, it's that women are far more likely to get harassed and have it be gendered and much worse (source: http://time.com/3305466/male-female-harassment-online/ ). I've never been harassed because I'm a man. But nearly every one of my female colleagues have been harassed because they're women. Men don't get harassed the same way as women. Their insults are usually directed at opinions, not their gender. Women, on the other hand, usually get BOTH.
It also seems like there's more harassment now than before, but that's because there are more women IN those geek stratus and we ha

Commission WidgetTook a peek at DA's new commission widget. Right idea, wrong execution IMO.Commission Widget2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'd much rather be able to accept actual money than DA's faulty and cumbersome point system, and the fact DA takes a "cut" of the commission money just for using the app is a really shitty move.
For example a $30 commission = 3000 points, but I would only get 2400 points or $24 according to the widget. That means DA is taking about a 20% cut of your earnings, which is bullshit. Also, the app only goes up to a maximum of 4000 points. So people who charge more than $40 can't use the app.
I'm probably not even doing the math correctly, it just seems overly laborious and frustratingly convoluted. I'm all for an app that makes taking commissions easier, and honestly 10 years was a LONG way to wait for such an app to finally be implemented.. It just needs refining.
It just makes more work for the consumers to force them to put down money to buy points (which DA takes a percentage of), only to allow them to pay for a

I'm sure we all get comments such as: "Wow amazing! Reminds me of X or Y or potato!"
That awkward moment when you have no idea what that was, so you bust out google and search it up, only to find out that it looks NOTHING like what people said.
Now, please don't get me wrong. I have no problem with comments or feedback such as ones above. I truly appreciate how viewers are trying to relate your piece in their own ways.
What I CANNOT STAND (and I know there are many of you out there who feel the same), are comments like these:
When you make an image of something such as a practical robot or a futuristic (but not too futuristic) car that still uses wheels.
"Um, your image looks too much like Z, X, Y,...."
That moment when what they described, was the most generic design for a robot or any ordinary car done by another present day

Why are we slower?About a month ago I finally got to meet an art hero of mine, Klaus Janson, a well known pro who's been in the industry for over 30 years. A mutual friend introduced us, and we hit it off right away. The group of us went through the Village hitting pub after pub, and soon I was drunk enough to ask Klaus something that had been bugging me.Why are we slower?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I asked him if modern comic artists are, on average, slower than we used to be. He said yes, and I agreed.
From the Golden Age until the 80s, pencillers were generally expected to turn in at least two pages a day, while an inker was expected to turn in around 3-4. There were a handful of exceptions, I'm sure, but most of the artists could pump out pages like human printing presses. In the current comic industry, it's completely reversed: while a handful of artists can still hit this speed, the vast majority can't. Pencillers today struggle to produce a page-per-day, while inkers (those who still ink with ink) are hitting around 2.
So what happened? I'v

My fellow gamers! What're you waiting for? It's a good year to be a gamer, isn't it? There are so many releases slated for the following months.. it makes NOT burning a hole right through your wallet very difficult. At least for me. Where awesome games are concerned, I have little to no restraint. Probably a good reason as to why I got into game development in the first place. Haha.My fellow gamers! What're you waiting for?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm curious. What game has you waiting with baited breath for its release?
Mine's kind of a toss-up.. there's a lot of really good stuff coming. There are two indie titles in the works that I'm really excited about, for starters. One is called Cube World , being developed by a one-man army that goes by the handle "Wollay". The first thing anyone would likely say upon seeing the game would be "minecraft clone", but the reality is the game seems to have more in common with Diablo and other loot-happy action RPGs. There's less crafting and house-building, and more exploring caves and forests and such
Back? Not quite...About my breakBack? Not quite...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Despite the increase in activity from me here on DA recently, I'm not entirely "back" in the normal sense of the word. I'm kinda just tip-toeing the waters to see if things have calmed a bit. I'm still trying to get through my issues, with mixed success, and a two month leave of absence isn't going to undo years of stress buildup and stubbornness. But I'm working on it, slowly but surely. You might see some new work here or there, but I don't think I'm ready yet to jump back into doing any of my longer narratives.
In fact, judging by my recent comic's reception, I probably am not ready for a full fledged return just yet...

Watch for Watch Members Listed!Hey everyone. I'm happy to present, as per request, the new watch for watch list. There will be some guidelines on this list. Failure to follow them will result in removal from the list & possibly the group. The guidelines are simple. I have presented you will an alphabetical list. When you receive a watch, it is your job to check the list. If that deviant is on the list you owe them a watch back, that is of course only if you're participating in this program. Deviants are not required to tell you they are from the W4W program. This is because I have been informed some deviants do no wish to be so called "spammed" by the notifications. Hence the list. If you wish to participate, please notify me 1st so I can add you, otherwise you may not receive your watch backs. Also I have had a few select admins volunteer to be in the list so we can check to make sure you're watching members back. They will not be named, & if you recognize one, please do no NOT point them out. If you wish to beWatch for Watch Members Listed!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

I'm sorry if any of our Tumblr posts offended you. By the way...please do post your thoughts there.
:icontransparentplz:So another thing, even if I'm a BruPili shipper now, I will try to remain neutral in writing this journal. I know that most of the people who don't like the USPH ship keeps on pointing on 'historical inaccuracies' and that those who don't like the BruPili ship points out that the historical interaction between them is so small and had little effect on the whole country.

I agree with her closing points too. It’s funny how we’re perfectly willing to suspend disbelief when it comes to health regeneration, invisible walls, quest markers, super powers, crazy game mechanics etc... but when it comes to treating women as... well... women... why do we have to keep coming up with excuses to give it a pass? In all honesty.. why do so many games even NEED these depictions in them? Take them out and I guarantee you that the games would play and feel pretty much exactly the same.
And that’s my last bit of criticism too. Most of the games listed are rated M... but they’re not mature by any stretch of the imagination. Watchdogs, GTA, Red Dead Redemption, Hitman etc are immature games. But because they’re dressed up with “swearing” and
Socially AwkwardI like the internet, but I acknowledge that it's not perfect. The ability for everyone to be the invisible man allows for a lot of injustice, bullying, harassment, and stalking to take place. This is slowly starting to change, however, thanks to every website gradually forcing people to link to their facebook (or other social media equivalent) accounts. No one wants to lose their personal social outlets as a result of the stuff they were doing elsewhere on the web, if you know what I mean. But... with all good things there are some bad things.Socially Awkward2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't know if it's just me, but I'm getting really creeped out how by how much everything is getting connected these days. Nearly every website asks me to post about stuff on facebook or twitter or reddit or whatever. Many websites don't even have personal accounts anymore and just have you link your social media accounts instead. And all of them want to update everyone on your every move 24/7.
And that's what's bothering me. I don't want every
