Apophysis on Mac (Working + Tutorial)As you may or may not know an unofficial version of Apophysis was released for Intel Mac's a while back. I personally could not get it to work and based on other peoples comments they couldn't get it to work either.Apophysis on Mac (Working + Tutorial)4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I have however found a solution. This all totally free and shouldn't take longer than about 10 minutes to do.
You need an intel Mac with X11 to do this.
Follow these instructions:
1. Go to http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ and download WineBottler.
Once downloaded drag the two apps to your applications folder as you always do. Open the applications and make sure everything seems to be fine.
2. Go to the Apophysis Sourceforge page at http://sourceforge.net/projects/apophysis/ and make sure you download the Apophysis .exe and not the .7z file. Once it's downloaded place the .exe in a convenient place (in a folder for example)
3. In Winebottler, select "Create Custom Prefixes" from the sidebar and select the location of the install file, which in th

Well, now I'm going to teach you how to get that intertwining.

Motion Blur Stills with ChaoticaA quick and very underused technique to create blur effects.Motion Blur Stills with Chaotica8 months ago in Personal More Like This
The principle is simple: you create a short animation and, instead of rendering it entirely, just render one frame, which will be your final artwork.
Step 1: you need some parameters to animate. I used a simple plastic with only 2 transforms.
Step 2: Open the animation editor (Ctrl+T or Window > Animation Editor). Set total length to some reasonably amount of time. I use 30-60sec currently, since its short enough to not get lost and long enough to have some room to tweak to control the blurring.
Exposure time controls the amount of motion blur. No worry much about getting the "right" value right now, since you can change it at any point.
Since we are only looking for one frame and not a full animation, there is no need to create many keyframes: 2 usually do the job. If, after making the animation, there are no frames that you like, you can just change one of th
the myth about talentMany people are under the assumption many of the high profile artists in the digital art community are mainly good because of talent. This is not completely true(in my opinion). What does make them great is the simple fact of constant and regular practice. But if you still like to cling to the word, then talent is just in other words an ambition and motivation. This word,"talent" has been branded with something that you think is something that can only be inherited and if you dont have it you are doomed to fail. Many people has lost potential careers because of this.the myth about talent2 years ago in Personal More Like This
well folks let me put that myth to rest because i think anyone with ambition and motivation can learn any tool and any skill. And if you are not learning it, it is because you are not working hard enough on it.its simple as that. The practice will open your eyes and you will develop to see things in different ways, once again this has nothing to do with talent. Once your understanding of all the levels of art gets wide

How to become a better colorist?Hey guys and girls. Today something especially for you. Some useful tips from coloring artist. How to become a better colorist?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Some of you asked me about tutorial. I really wanted to write one but they are so time consuming.
So let's start.
1. Make good flats at the start. Use polygonal lasso tool in Photoshop and then Paint bucket tool, it's the most accurate method. Filling areas with brushes is wrong, believe me. You will swear to gods and scream out loud trying to later fill all these tiny holes you didn't notice white painting flats with brush.
Of course don't stick to this advice too much. If you have a bunch of tiny elements it's obvious that it's better to color them with hard brush than to use lasso, especially the polygonal one
My way of doing flats is to make every particular color/character on a separate layer. For example, having two girls, sky and clouds in the picture, I make 3 groups: background, girl1, girl2. Then in each group I make layers for: sky, clouds, skin, hair, shirt, jeans... etc. May look

When we want to make our digital photos suitable for online viewing there can be many factors to consider, but let me focus on two that I believe to be the most important.
1: Most digital photos need to be resampled to a much smaller pixel dimension. Whether the website we are submitting to has restrictions on size or simply because many cameras produce images far too large to view at 100% on our displays, the fact is we have to resample.
2: When resampling the image a lot of pixels are thrown away. When we resample we lose data that was in our original image and for the most part we lose a great deal of sharpness and clarity in our images. Therefore, we need to sharpen.
When it comes to resampling there are factors to consider. Some folks use the single-step approach which when used on a high frequency image [lots of details] loses a great deal of perceived detail. We might think that there is not a loss when

The TutorialWhen I first started using Apophysis, I did not know anything about the program. I just jumped right in and learned enough about the program to get by. Heck! I didn't even know how to use the render function for the first couple of month using the program. I eventually figured that out and ever since then my fractals have that less of screenshot feel to it.The Tutorial1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The one thing that any new fractalist should look at are the tutorials that are available for their program they are using. While in my case, it was not a 'how-to use the program' tutorial, but rather 'how-to make a specific kind of fractal' tutorial. Like in case of the ones that caught my eye and I have used them several times in helped me with my various fractals.
Tutorials are indeed a wonderful resource for any new fractalist. Since I am at the moment big into Apophysis. What are your favorite tutorials for your p

deviantART Honors Spirit Day TweetdeviantART Honors Spirit Day4 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
You might have noticed that deviantART is wearing purple today, as October 20, 2010 marks Spirit Day -- an event to honor teens who have lost their lives to anti-LGBT bullying.
While this specific type of bullying has received a lot of media attention as of late, we'd like to bring to light how bullying is a wide-spread problem that impacts everyone -- regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, race, or profession. And the recent surge of teen suicides associated with bullying can't be ignored or overlooked.
In honor of Spirit Day, deviantART CEO Angelo Sotira ($spyed) took a few minutes to address
