Charlie: A middle aged man with a quiet life of monotony. He wears the dress of a middle class father.
Vince: A man with strange behavior. Gives off an air of intelligence or madness. Looks like a vagrant or a punk. His behavior convinces people (Charlie especially) that he knows something they want to know.
Waitress: Works at the diner.
The play takes place at a table in a quiet, small town diner.
It starts with Charlie alone at his table reading the newspaper.
Vince enters carrying a paper bag. Looks around then notices Charlie sitting alone.
Vince: Is this seat taken?
Charlie: (startled) I usually like to sit alone.
Vince: (sitting down) I'll take that as a no then.
Charlie: I um, didn't say, uh. Okay. (returns to paper)
Vince: What's up with you? Do you have a problem?
Charlie: What? Oh, no problem at all.
Vince: (grabs paper) What'cha reading?
Charlie: Hey! I was, well I guess you can look.
