USA: Support the Catholic church or you'll be nextOne day, way back in college, the Catholic chaplain heard me play the piano and offered me a position as an accompanist at his parish. I wasn't Catholic but I accepted anyway because I wanted the money. As far as jobs go, it wasn't much of one - I usually worked just one day a week and made $200 a month tops. But I was getting paid to do something I enjoyed and that was fun. Plus it was amusing in a weird sort of way watching the collection baskets get passed around at every mass and knowing that some of that money would soon make its way into my pocket.USA: Support the Catholic church or you'll be next2 years ago in Personal More Like This
What did I spend all that "Catholic" money on? More like what didn't I spend it on. With most of my room and board already included with tuition, I was free to buy - among other things - all sorts of alcohol, porn, satanic blackmetal (back when people actually bought music), slutty clothes, and - most memorably - an athame for my wiccan ex-girlfriend's 20th birthday (I did mention I wasn't Catholic, right?) And yes, since you al

'Needs Improvement' Folders- How to Deal with themIn light of recent events where a friend of mine was suspended for having such a folder, I decided to observe those who had been affected and determined that a logical and calm way to deal with these needs to be made.'Needs Improvement' Folders- How to Deal with them2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"So, Typh," you may ask, "what are 'Needs Improvement' folders, anyway?" Why, my dear readers, they're simply a Favourites folder that some people will dump art in if they deem that the piece 'needs improvement'. Usually, (and I just yanked these from the Newest section on the main page, so I'm not specifically targeting anyone) submissions like
will be put in these folders, leaving the uploader confused and most likely frustrated. Honestly, and this is my opinion, I think that all art should be dumped in such a folder. Anyway, the target of these folders will definitely want some answers. While I think that going after pictures such as the ones above specifically is a bit biased, the folder maker has an unspoken point

"Get a life."
This one would only work if you were trying to insult a dead person. May work on zombies and emo kids.
"Yeah, you keep thinking that."
This will work on zombies. It makes them feel like shit so it could count as a blow. They have no brains. This is why they want yours.
"Learn to spell."
This is good for when you are confronting a really bad wizard or when you have nothing better to say. I reccomend it in moderation.
"You're just a hater."
It's always valid. Always. Everyone hates somethin
Korra Season Finale, AKA Avatar Ex MachinaOK, I think I've calmed down enough to write a review now. Spoilers ahead!Korra Season Finale, AKA Avatar Ex Machina2 years ago in Personal More Like This
First, let's start off with what worked in the season finale. The animation was just...incredible, the action was exciting and sweeping in its scale, and Zuko's voice was reincarnated as General Iroh the goddamn determinator! which was actually kinda distracting, cause I kept expecting him to be like "I AM SO GOOD AT BEING GOOD!!. Hiroshi Sato showed his true colors as a hate-filled douchenozzle, and Asami showcased her usual class and determination when faced with truly shitty circumstances (on a side note, I've always had a hard time believing that Mr. Sato invented all those airplanes and mechas and stuff, because honestly, when we met him he kinda gave off a Henry Ford vibe, not an "engineering genius" vibe like that crazy eyebrow dude from A:TLA. But whatever, that's a minor point). And of course Naga was a badass...and according to tumblr, there are now people who ship Bolin x Naga. Just...why.

Okay, so if you've never seen this kinda thing, sometimes people set it up to where a rubber band will snap or something and scare the shit out of you and what not. Or some times people will put a fake thing under it. Or sometimes, they'll be real dicks and trap a roach under it.
Well, I sat there for twenty minutes braving to lift the goddamned box

Foreign Words the English Language NeedsOh hello. I’m finally getting around to making this news article that I said I might do, like, a month ago. Sorry, I’m not used to writing news articles. Bear with me.Foreign Words the English Language Needs2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Back in August, I started a series in my forums for cool foreign words. It went over extremely well and numerous people requested that I combine them into a handy-dandy news article for deviantART at large to enjoy. So, here you are: fifteen foreign words that the English language needs to
What it means: A feeling of longing associated with displacement, but not necessarily displacement from one’s original home. An intense yearning to be somewhere you are not. Hiraeth also expresses a sort of ache or longing for something of the past, somewhat similar to the notion of "golden" or "good old days," but with more ancient connotations.
Why it needs to be a thing in English: I speak as someone from a country

Five Tips to Starting FreelancingSo, you're tired of being unemployed. You've been stuck at home for the umpteenth month in a row, a new season of The Legend of Korra is still a year off, and your government support checks (should you be lucky to still be getting them) won't even come close to affording you a bus ticket to Everfree Northwest. Your evaluation of life is the same dissertation of tedium and monotony as Helen Keller's review of Chinese Democracy.Five Tips to Starting Freelancing2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
You know, pretty much on par with every other review of Chinese Democracy.
But know what? If you can't find a job, you'll make a job! Screw finding work, and screw the employers who keep dismissing your applications for being "over qualified" like that Bachelors of Science in Graphic Design is as detrimental to your character as being a registered felon. Screw them and that stupid help wanted sign at Quiznos. Now you're freelancing, baby.

The Comfort of Mindless Obedience
When is information true and useful and when is it just “propaganda?” Why in fact is an image or phrase or animated art sequence “propaganda” rather than it simply being a “lie?” What about acceptable lies that define our society as much as they degrade it - - for example commercials that obviously hype a product with untruths or political advertisements full of unachievable platitudes.

To anyone who finds these memory cards,
and the messages left within...
My name is Charles Snippy. I am probably the last sane human being left on earth. I know not whether you will understand this message. I know not whether you'll even be able to decode the ones and zeros on these data cards. I know not whether my voice will even reach anyone.
I know not, whether the microscopic drives will last long enough and whether the plastic and metal which composes them will not disintegrate into dust as centuries pass or whether the titanium shell encasing them will remain in place or be consumed by the ever-changing landscape, lost forever.
And yet I still have hope that someone will find the story of my life, long past and learns something of use from it.
If you are still human, then this will be a story about the collapse of civilization of your forefathers through greed and arrogance.
If you are some other species entirely, then it is a story about how our human race was extin

I figured it out from black and white.
Seconds and hours.
Maybe they had to take some time.
I know how it goes from wrong and right.
Silence and sound.
Did they ever hold each other tight
Did they ever fight
We can make it 'til the end.
Nothing can come between
Not even the Gods above
Can separate the two of us.
I figured it out.
Saw the mistakes of up and down.
Meet in the middle.
There's always room for common ground.

Okey so I'm getting the blame for protecting my sister-in-law (or soon to be sister-in-law) because I'm protecting her from what could be a paedophile on Facebook and DA. Now she is 13 years old and she was dating a 16 year old on-line and this "16 year old girl" thinks that it's okey to get a 13 year to send her naked pictures of herself.
I have proof that this "16 year old girl" admits to asking and bring up the idea of asking the 13 year old to take these pictures, I was the one that found these pictures on the 13 year old sisters phone and what would you do:
Tell her mother about the pictures?
Or just forget you ever saw them?
Well I chose the obvious one, I told her mother and this "16 year old girl" thinks that I'm in the wrong for telling her mother even though taking these pictures and being in possession of these pictures is against the law, now I've never done anything against the

Describing your CharactersDescribing your CharactersDescribing your Characters2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
As writers, one of our primary goals is to bring characters to life in the readers’ imaginations. To do this, a character needs two things:
1) A personality.
2) A physical appearance the reader can imagine.
The first is created through characterization, and the second is said to be done through physical description. While both statements are true, what I’d like to discuss is how physical description needs to do more than just craft appearance, and more than anything, it's characterization that contributes to vividly imagined characters.
Take a look at the following example.
1) When I entered Mr. Smith's office, he stood and smiled at me. He had a big nose, brown eyes, and short, brown hair. He wore a dark suit. I shook his hand.
What do you know about Mr. Smith from this brief scene? The physical details I’ve given say that he has a big nose, brown eyes, and short, brown hair.
One Reason....... why I try not to comment about people's weight. One Reason...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I used to attend a particular conference on an annual basis, and so I got to (casually) know the other "regulars" who also used to be there. Every year, more or less, I'd see the same group of people at the speakers' dinner, and we could catch up on the usual "what are you up to these days?" kind of stuff. One of the guys I used to see fairly often was a tall heavy-set fellow (some might call him "fat" or "obese") he'd always been tall, bearded, and big, to me. But one year, he showed up and he had lost a lot of weight. It took me a second to recognize him, and I said, "Hey, Rich! You look great! You've lost a lot of weight!" and he looked at me and deadpanned, "Yeah, pancreatic cancer will do that."
Do I need to belabor the point? I will. First off, I set myself up for a massive head-fuck, by making assumptions about what was going on in someone else's life, and - even though I was being friendly about it - I was horribly wro

With all the "art theft" things going on, I wanted to attempt to draw a line between my side of things. The most recent one that seemed to spread all over dA was the fact that someone referenced someone else's piece to make a similar piece. Did they use the linework that the artist drew without permission? (I don't know for sure). I see it all the time mostly with fanart. I don't look at much fanart and the only fanarts that I've done (on this acct.) is Spyro and Kija . Otherwise, it's either personal art or other people's characters. (Which I'm not grouping under fanart because they aren't published books/games/movies, etc) Certain fanarts seem to get more respect than others.
What is a troll? and a little rant. After watching BlackBusterCritic's (BBC) ustream with Vesper it made me think about what trolling really is. The commentary community defines it as someone just merely getting a reaction out of someone. By that logic doesn't that mean that any video can be considered a troll video because they could get reactions out of people? That's dumb. My commentary on Joshua's commentary on pimpmasterDX got Josh to react, does that mean I was trolling back then even though it was not my intention? It sounds more of a scapegoat to me, or an excuse so people can act like idiots and justify it when someone else calls them an idiot. What's the point? Whats going to happen when someone reacts to your "troll" video, all your going to do is comeback at them and say, "Hah, you got trolled bro". Maybe its just me but in my opinion its really retarded and I hope that everyone is aware of my point of view. What is a troll? and a little rant.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Why do you hate me so much?Jesus christ. My mean fucking piano teacher Brooke Shields is like always saying shit like "Oh, Ernest...you're pressing the keys too hard! Stop that!" and I'm all like "I'm an artist, Brooke! An ARTIST! You can't judge how I'm making my art! I'm expressing myself, Brookey! Why aren't you letting me live my life?" "But you paid for these lessons and your mother said you work so hard and always follow the rules like in her home!" I go quiet for a moment and slam my hands on the keys looking into her sad little brown eyes and shout "UGH BROOKE UGGGHHHH!" and storm off. I run up the stairs then run back down to the middle and say "You're a mean lady! You're an OPPRESSOR! You're gonna paaaaay!" then I run back up and play my keyboard. Why do you hate me so much?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Through that I created my own of music called "Pressing-Too-HardCore". All I have to ask though is why? Why, Brooke? Why, Brooke Shields? What did I do to you? I am a good Christian boy even if I am a bit different. Overall it's you and society that is wrong
