'Pull Down Heaven' Information and FAQI'm excited to finally get to work on a short comic series featuring my tiger and rat characters, Linan and Jeckle. Although this is primarily a personal project to re-examine a world that I left behind, I am sharing it because I think that a few other people may be able to enjoy it as well.'Pull Down Heaven' Information and FAQ5 years ago in Personal More Like This
Because this comic will be mainly textless, with one possible planned exception, it may prove to be difficult to follow. If you find that this is the case for you, feel free to ask questions, or draw your own conclusions. Some information will be listed below, and I will also be answering any frequently asked questions in the FAQ section.
I hope you enjoy Pull Down Heaven!
Synopsis: A tiger and a rat combine their talents to escape from an abandoned research facility and the manufactured lives that they have lived.
Genre: Science fiction/fantasy
Content Warning: Blood and violence, possibly ideologically sensitive
Themes: Rejection of societal norms

Adobe has announced they are abandoning their current business model of selling programs to move onto a subscription-based structure called the Creative cloud.
Now rather than buying a one time product, you will have to pay a monthly fee in order to be able to use Adobe related programs... about a measly 20 to 50$ a month! ( make that 80$ a month for Europe )
You will no longer be able to own your program, rather what you will buy is a TEMPORARY license to use Adobe's services. You are basically renting the program for perpetuity rather than owning it and buying it outright.
The "advantages" is that, while subscribed, you will have access to any programs Adobe has to offer, you'll get automatically the latest versions of the programs as they are released, as well as 20 GB of storage space online for your files ( yay... )

Leonardo da Vinci's Anatomical DrawingsIf getting your gear together and heading out for an evening of life drawing sounds like more trouble than it's worth, consider what Leonardo da Vinci endured for the sake of educating his own singular vision.Leonardo da Vinci's Anatomical Drawings3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Rumors of da Vinci resorting to grave robbery persist to this day, but the truth is that he was allowed to dissect and study corpses at the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova in Florence.
Leonardo da Vinci's studies of the human skull in 1489 borrowed three-dimensional drawing techniques from architecture that had never been seen applied to anatomical studies before. A new technical vocabulary for anatomical drawings was created and da Vinci's sketches in plan, section, elevation, and perspective marked a massive progression in how the body was documented.
Criticized for his undertaking, Leonardo passionately defended the purpos

No More Unauthorized ArtworkRegarding the debate of whether comic artists should continue selling unauthorized prints/sketches of characters they don't own, I think Bissette and his legal advisor are 100% correct. So from now on, I won't be doing any sketches or commissions at shows of any character that I don't own. Am I rolling over in fear of Marvel? Maybe, but as it states below, they're in their legal right to come after me if there's ever a dispute. I love to complain about the Big Two, but I can't (in good conscience) get upset at them if I'm breaking the rules myself. Being DC exclusive, maybe I can get a waiver that allows me to sketch DC characters, so I'll keep you updated. No More Unauthorized Artwork3 years ago in Personal More Like This

ALERT, ALL COMICS CREATORS: With permission, I'm quoting key points my dear friend and own legal advisor/contract consultant (since 1992) Jean-Marc Lofficier raised on his posts to a Yahoo forum discussing Ty Templeton's cartoon concerning the Gary

As a Community Volunteer I spend a lot of time pouring through the Artisan Crafts galleries looking for art that deserves a bigger audience. I dig through every little hidden corner of the galleries looking at every type of craft, made by everyone from the most watched members to the day old newbies. And every time I do this, I have to double check it all for originality.
My time doing this had shed light on a massive problem inherent in the AC galleries: copyright violation
Now, I'm not talking about the obvious I-stole-your-picture-and-uploaded-it violations. I'm talking about something much more subtle, to the point it feels like most of the perpetrators don't actually realise they're doing it. I'm often about to give someone a DD, until I read their description and find it completely devoid of credit. Rather than getting a site-wide feature, these artists end up on my blacklist instead. It all boils dow

From time to time polymer clay neophytes ask me what tips I can give them to help them improve their craft. In my previous article I already wrote about what kind of clays, tools and techniques can be used, but materials can only take you so far. Although they are helpful, I've seen people creating masterpieces with nothing but homemade clay and practically no tools. After all, clay, tools and resources don't create a masterpiece, you do.
I realized eventually that there's three invaluable and essential things you'll need if you want to succeed as a polymer clay artist. In fact, I think they're needed for all forms of a

PE Feedback: ...But I don't know what to say?Critiques: What to say when you don't know what to sayPE Feedback: ...But I don't know what to say?3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
All of us have heard about feedback events during our time on deviantArt. Many of us have participated in them, while others have declined to do so for various reasons. Some of these reasons include fear of receiving critique on one's own work, fear of being attacked for critiquing someone's work, fear of not knowing what to say, and feeling inadequate to critique a deviation from someone who is perhaps more skilled than we are--especially if the deviation is created using a medium to which we are unaccustomed.
We especially want to focus on this last reason.
Here is a conversation that we had recently in a dA chat room (names have been changed):
Us: We are planning a cross-medium, dA-wide critique event for Project Educate!! Will you participate?
DeviantX: Hmm. I don't know.
Us: Why not?
DeviantX: I'm a photo

#SixWordStories Feature: October 9th - 23rdA type of Flash Fiction, six word stories are (very) short stories with an exact word count: six words. SixWordStories is the place where, alongside quality, quantity really does matter. Though these stories are so brief in length, they can be as profound, if not more, than the prose and poetry you see and read every day, partly because six word stories can tell us so much and yet contain so little.#SixWordStories Feature: October 9th - 23rd1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
In our feature articles, we will be showcasing selections of the wonderful six word stories submitted to our bi-weekly word and theme prompts. New bi-weekly prompts will also be announced here.

GraysLast week when I said that I wouldn't be doing con sketches of copyrighted characters, I had no idea that the news would get the coverage that it did. But seeing as how I helped poke the hornet's nest--and having taken the time to read the opinions of readers and other artists--I feel like it would be helpful if I responded to help clarify what's been happening.Grays3 years ago in Personal More Like This
First off, I think that what happened regarding this issue highlighted the BEST of our industry. I'm thrilled with the results, although I don't find Marvel's statement reassuring (more on that later). When we learned that Marvel was pursuing the $17,000 from Friedrich, we came together as concerned professionals and fans and managed to affect the situation. Even though we disagreed, at least we weighed out the options. And we even came together to set up funding to help out Friedrich. With the use of Twitter, blogging, and proper action from the media outlets, w
Dealing with Creative DOUBT...I'm at the point where nothing seems right. Everything I write down is cliche, badly written, and has bad pacing. Yet when I was younger I would turn out stories one right after the other like a non-stop machine. But now...thanks to all those instructors and classes, the creative edge is now limping along like a dog with only one leg.Dealing with Creative DOUBT3 years ago in Personal More Like This
...I don't have an agent or anything published in the first place. So that does paint an extra layer of doubt upon the situation.
...when I discuss this, usually I'm berated with people saying, "Stop being so emo." As if depression were something that one can simply switch on and off.
...I guess what I'm doing here is ... trying to find some kind of sign, revelation or clue that I'm not a bad writer or that I'm just another writing loser.
You're not a bad writer or a loser of any kind.
-- You're NORMAL.
The truth is all artists of every kind have to deal with Doubt -- from the rank beginner to the professional. All of us, without excep
