Role Models: Then and Now
Albert Einstein by SoulOfDavid
There was a time when childhood heroes were real life human beings people dreamed of emulating when they “grew up.” There were sports heroes, famous astronauts, war heroes, political figures, the leaders of social and humanitarian causes, etc..
Then came “Star Trek” which is thought to be a prime mover behind student inte

Miranda: Please, just call me Miranda.
Prosecutor: Miranda...You taught your children to tell someone and react unkindly toward a homosexual or anyone producing a homosexual act, correct?
Miranda: Hasn't everyone else?
Prosecutor: We're talking about you.
Judge: Answer the question, Mrs. Butler.
Miranda: Yes. We did...But it's only because I want my children to grow up like everybody else! I don't want my kids being picked on for being the black sheep. It's like being the only nigger in the whole school!
Miranda: It's true, sweetie.
Dale: That's different! This is my sexual orientation we're talking about, and don't drag Morton into this!
Judge: Mr. Butler.
Miranda: Morton is african-american and he was caught selling crack!
Dale: He was selling crack so he could pay his way through college, you bitch!
Judge: One more word and I'm holding whomever speaks in contempt!
Miranda: Shut up, you faggot! You've put our family through enough!

A bit of personal lifeFirst of all, I'd like to thank all of you for your kind reactions on my last journal. I didn't really feel like replying to everyone in person. But I do want to let you know I really appreciate the support I got from you, and I've read every single message.A bit of personal life1 year ago in Personal More Like This
When I first wrote that journal, I was in doubt whether to post it or not. Because, even though many artists experience it at least once in their career, having an artblock seems to be kind of a taboo in the art world. It's like admitting failure. Nobody ever likes to do that. I don't like it either. But keeping this kind of thing a secret, felt a bit dishonest to me. I thought to myself; "Would I dislike an artist I admire just because he/she had an artblock?" and the answer was "no". I would probably appreciate it if a public person admitted something like that, because it would make them seem a lot more human.

Who has your key?
The key to your heart
I looked away &&&
When I didn't respond,
You asked me
Can I have the key?
But when I still was quiet,
And wouldn't look at you,
Please.. I really want to have it..
The truth is, I no longer hold the key.
I've trusted so many people with it,
I don't have it. Don't know where it went.
I've given it to so many people who have
Unlocked my heart
Just to hurt me. I don't have a key to give you.
But.. If I did, could I trust you,
To hold it safe?
Close to your heart,
Where no harm could come of it?
Could I trust you,
Not to walk away once I've let you in?
Once you've seen what I am?
I'm sorry. I can't....

Policy StatementThis is ridiculous to me, but I guess to be 100% fair to all who visit this page, I ought to post this statement up front:Policy Statement3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have made it clear from the outset that I am simply not interested in arguing with people with opposing views over the internet. To disregard that request is, in my view, trollish behavior. "Discussion" is a waste of my time. Every minute I spend "arguing" with someone (who has not arguments, but rather, beliefs) is a minute spent away from poastering, sending emails, making phone calls, trying to raise a little money, and other useful things to advance Occupy/Anon/anti-SOPA, and other progressive movements.
If someone wants to discuss on this page how to advance the goals of Occupy, Anon, anti-SOPA, pro-women, 'green,' etc., or, how to make these poasters more effective (including suggestions and requests), they will be welcomed and their comments will receive a courteous reply. If people want to exchange friendly, admiring, helpful, or even flirtatio

Watch this advertisement against same-sex marriage in Washington State.
I have no words.
Okay, actually, I do have some words about the ad.
Same-sex marriage (aka MARRIAGE) is the topic here, in response to an advertisement by the folks against R-74 that was shared by a relative of mine. . The ad was full of just so much… so much bull. I had to write a 4 page long answer to it.
-"Marriage is rooted in biological facts of nature." By that argument, so is polygamy, cannibalism, and murder.
-Sexual behaviour is not the same thing as sexual orientation. A study by the New York City Dept of Health and Mental Hygiene reported in 2006 that: "Of the straight-identified men, 9.4% reported having sexual intercourse with at least 1 man (and no women) in the year before the survey." They also reported, "Approximately 70% of straight-identified men who have sex with men reported being married."

Amanda ToddI am guessing that most of you have already heard the story of Amanda Todd and how she was driven to suicide by relentless harassment from bullies.....Amanda Todd2 years ago in Personal More Like This
What sickens me the most is how people are actually joking about her suicide, as well as people I know. It leaves me speechless, I feel like my entire circle has been divided because of it.
I feel like there is a massive lack of empathy in people today and honestly its a bit frightening......But this group, and all of you guys who come here give me hope that maybe one day it won't be as bad as it is right now.
Love you guys, just keep being who you are.

National Suicide Prevention DayHi guys.National Suicide Prevention Day2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Um, I rarely post serious journals because, well, they aren't fun, but I feel the need to today.
Today is National Suicide Prevention Day...
Um. This day is really important to me, guys.
I have depression and what people say to me really effect me. I'm good at hiding it, but I've tried to commit suicide four times over the last four or five years, and committed self-harm as some form of release.
Take it from me, depression, suicide and self-harm are nasty things. Never, ever try suicide or self-harm. I still have faint scars on my thighs where I did it, and they'll probably always be there.
So... I just want to say that, no matter how happy a person looks, they could be hiding anything. Always treat people right. Tell people you love them before it's too late. Hug your friends, be close to your family, make peace with your enemies. You never know when it'll be too late, and if someone you know kills them self, it will tear you up. I've had to talk people

Harrison: I do.
Announcer: Take a seat.
Lawyer: Mr. Richter, you were caught by Bonnie Butler committing an act against humanity with Mr. Butler on December tenth with Mr. Butler. Is this true?
Harrison (Sarcastically): Well, if Bonnie says it then it has to be true.
Lawyer: So, you admit it.
Harrison: Yes, on December tenth I was caught...(Laughs) kissing Dale.
Harrison: Who knows? He kissed me first.
Lawyer: Did you have any emotional attachment to this kiss or Mr. Butler before, during, or after the kiss?
Harrison (Scoffs): Hell no.
Lawyer (Smiles): Nothing further.
Prosecutor: Mr. Richter, you seem like a person that likes to laugh.
Harrison: Hell, who doesn't?
Prosecutor: You laugh at the idea of kissing my client. Why?
Harrison: Well, I don't know why it's such a big deal. Everybody wants to know what it's like to
Taking on Bullies (part 1 of 2)Bullying and UsTaking on Bullies (part 1 of 2)2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Bullying can come in many different forms and effects everyone (not just the "sensitive" or "thin-skinned" people). And people can be bullied for anything: their art, their looks, their gender, a disability, their opinion, their sexuality, their religion, etc. There are no set boundaries that govern who can be bullied and what a bully will choose to focus on. And in the age of technology, bullies have many resources at their disposal to be very effective at completely destroying a person with very little effort...
"Threats, name-calling, teasing, spreading rumors, purposefully trying to make someone look foolish,
mean emails or comments, posting embarrassing content about someone, creating websites or pages to
single out a person for a negative reason, creating accounts in someone else’s name or identity and pretending
to be your target and have them act vastly foolish or hateful are ALL bullying..."

New Pope: Gay Marriage is the Work of the DevilNew Pope: Gay Marriage is the Work of the Devil2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Here's a 2010 equalitopia article by r0b where the newly elected Pope Francis (Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio) describes gay marriage as being the work of the devil:
Argentina’s highest-ranking Catholic prelate has warned that the country’s gay marriage bill is a “machination” of the devil, reports Pink News.
Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio has called on priests in Buenos Aires, where he is archbishop, to protest against the bill, which is progressing through Argentina’s parliament.
In a letter to the monasteries of Buenos Aires, he wrote: “Let’s not be naive, we’re not talking about a simple political battle; it is a destructive pretension against the plan of God .. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.

I...I-I'd really prefer to date a girl rather than a guy.
Don't judge me.
And I kinda want to tell someone I really like them....
But I'm not that attractive to the opposite gender apparently...
Every time I tried, they all thought I was weird or crazy or "needed help."
Plus it seems like almost every one of my friends is....in love.
And I've just never have felt that before.
I've never felt that true love that you get when someone tells you they love you BESIDES your parents or siblings.
And I want to.
But because I want to date the opposite gender...
Almost everyone that I've told that I liked them has rejected me, or like I said, they thought I needed help.
So maybe I'll go back to dating guys....
Because this whole situation is causing me troubles.
So I'm going to resist the urge to like the same gender from now on until someone gives me a reason to change that.
Don't know how to deal with it anymore.
So I'll move on lik

Bullied Gay Student Sues Indianapolis SchoolsA gay student who alleges he suffered repeated harassment in an Indianapolis high school is suing the city's public school system, saying administrators failed to protect him from abuse.Bullied Gay Student Sues Indianapolis Schools2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Dynasty Young, now 17, "was subjected to relentless, severe harassment and abuse by other students because he was perceived as gay and because his clothing, behavior, and demeanor did not fit stereotypical notions of masculinity" during the 2011-2012 school year at Arsenal Technical High School, says the complaint, filed today in U.S. District Court in Indiana. Young and his mother, Chelisa Grimes, also a plaintiff in the suit, are represented by the National Center for Lesbian Rights and two law firms, Kirkland & Ellis and Waples & Hanger.
Young enrolled in Arsenal Tech at the beginning of that academic year as a junior, having relocated from Arizona, where he had enjoyed going to school and encountered few problems because of his gender nonconformity, and those few problems were dealt with swiftly. H
