An easy wire-wrapping tutorialWhen it comes to making jewerly, especially silver, wire-wrapping technique is one of the nicest consider the availability and costs of the materials (it definitely beats Art Clay Silver at these points). But before you get silver wire and start making such fabulous pieces like the ones I've featured in the end, it's good to take your first steps using something cheaper - and here comes the copper wire - and making something simpler, to get used to this lovely technique. An easy wire-wrapping tutorial1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
This tutorial I originally posted on my blog a couple of months ago and I thought about sharing it also here.
This is what we're planning to get.
First of all, we need stones - the more regular they are, the better. No need to think about any super duper expensive ones now (: I collected most of them in my garden, there are also parts of my old broken earrings and a small glass ball. We also need sharp pincers, round pincers and a wire, 0.6mm or thicker, 40cm at least. Copper wire i
How to make a viking dressI used to be a part of one history reenactment group some time ago. Such groups basically reconstruct elements of daily life of people from a selected time period; my group was interested in early Middle Ages, from the 8th to the 11th century, from the Eastern and Northern Europe. Personally, I used to reconstruct a viking woman from today's Sweden areas. Most of you will be shocked, but vikings were not half-naked barbarians with horned helmets. They had no horned helmets. Really. How to make a viking dress1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Anyway, my favourite part of reenactment has always been all the suit making. Buing materials, planning, cutting, sewing (hand sewing!), embroidering. Then, wearing. Generally, viking clothes are very easy to make, though I admit that the materials aren't the cheapest, if you want to make it as much accurate historically as you can.
Our goal: a simple dress, no emboirdery. This is actually my first viking dress I've ever made.

Photomanipulations: A RantI just need to vent a bit on this topic.Photomanipulations: A Rant3 months ago in Personal More Like This
I like photomanipulation. Or at least, I like the idea of photomanipulation and I like the idea of photomanipulating. I have a little hobby that I do on the side and I constantly do smaller manipulations for the sake of creating the pieces I need for the site I maintain for it. In theory, I am a photomanipulator.
But I have a problem. When it comes to anything bigger, I get... ambitious. It isn't enough to combine pieces reasonably or for time or simply like I do for my side hobby. No, I have to make sure each blade of grass is logically accounted for. I can't just plop a few stock elements onto a backdrop and blend them. I need to measure, recreate, edit, replace every bit of fabric that looks too Party City and not authentic. And ultimately I start these projects with an idea of what I eventually want, and I micromanage all the little details, but I never get a concept fully concieved and complet

Seven years ago when I was struggling to learn portraiture, I remember saying to my mom, "When I "get" this, I'm going to teach everyone how to do it!" So here we are, seven years later and I'm ready to share the knowledge I've discovered!
After years of studying with professional portrait artists, by reading tons of books on how to draw the face, and by studying the works of master artists such as Sargent, Bouguereau, and Vanderpoel, I'm ready to share the most helpful information I've learned with you all!
Through videos, images, and easy to follow project steps you will learn how to make a great portrait. In my skillshare class, I will walk you through materials to use as well as how to pick the best reference photos. Then we will start sketching and I will teach you how to accur
Old Movies vs. NewSo I'm involved in the ongoing effort of exposing my daughter to old movies and the "progress" which has been made in all facets of the telling of stories visually (we read lots of old comic books and comic strips together too). This last weekend, I rented us the double feature "Tron" and "Tron: Legacy." When the first "Tron" movie came out, I think I saw that movie every weekend that it played in that little town in Arizona in which I spent the majority of my boyhood. I owned a Commodore 64 at the time (or a Vic-20, I can't remember exactly when that movie came out), and I was in the "Gifted and Talented" program at school, which gave 6 kids (of which I was one of them) access to the first Apple computers ever developed. All of which goes to prove that I have a long history of being a nerd, I guess. And from the viewpoint of a nerd, "Tron" was the COOLEST THING I HAD EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. .. but I fear it won't last because it is showing a fatal flaw that has signed the death knell of a lot of detective shows.
I like the characters (still got the obsessive nature of Holmes plus the drug-related and social dysfunction undertones - strangely enough BOTH are flawed heroes).
I like how they make a nod to the original material but find a way to make it work in this day and age (the police detective and Sherlock met in Scotland Yard years ago).
I even like how the main characters play off each other but with no serious undertones - a "bromance" but with people of the opposite gender (if you saw the BBC version of Sherlock Holmes or the Robert Downey Jr. movie you'd know what I am referring to)
(BTW - if they actually make Jonny's and Lucy's characters a romantic couple - please be humane and kill the show then and there.)

Growing Tired...This whole incident (which by the way, has gotten EXTREMELY more complicated), but I really don't want to explain. Every time I explain it just hurts more and more. This whole thing could have been cut, dry, simple, and positive, because more and more it was getting that way. I was learning and growing and doing well. But someone jumped in and complicated things. Someone jumped in and made the process longer and harder. Someone jumped in and shattered my heart and any dreams I had of being a happy family. Instead the left over result is a broken, depressed, and lonely girl, which no amount of company and friendship can cure. Nothing makes me happy anymore. Any time I try to draw, it turns to crap. Its hilarious because several people have commissioned me recently and I LOVE their ideas for what I am supposed to draw, it will be so much fun.... but I can't draw. My hands aren't even steady enough to color. I'm sick every day. My stomach gets sick off of everything I eat. I amGrowing Tired...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
DeviantHEARTIts a shame that its an April Fools Day joke... There are people out there that would actually benefit from this and people who have actually met their significant other on this site. I honestly believe that people would benefit from a REAL version of this. Usually DA has some of the best April Fools Day jokes... but this one is just mean. I hope they realize that they are gonna end up hurting a lot of people that don't realize its a joke. I dunno if I would have known unless I saw the date. Anyways, maybe its just me being sensitive and grumpy, but come on DA? This is not the best subject to pull a prank on. Its funny because many of the jokes from other years carry over to be a real thing... maybe they will tweak this to make it a real way to meet friends? I'm just not quite happy that DA feels its okay to mess with people that might be lonely. Me personally, I have someone, but there are people out there that don't. Have some tact DA, have some tact.DeviantHEART9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Love you guys!
The Shape of LoveThere have been many occasions over the years when I've had people say to me "Gee, you don't look like a lesbian!" or "You're too pretty to be gay." I suppose the image one has of a lesbian is that of a mannish character dressed in grubby jeans, T-shirt and boots. It is also assumed, I guess, that if I am attracted to women then I must certainly hate men. Actually, nothing could be farther from the truth. I adore my father and I've had the most wonderful relationship with male professors, coworkers and friends. I've just never had the desire to jump into bed with them. The Shape of Love1 month ago in Personal More Like This
I have known that I am gay since about the age of fourteen or fifteen. I went out a couple of times with a boy who played on the varsity football team at school and, although I had fun, I would find myself looking over his shoulder at some attractive girl in the distance. That's just the way I felt, the way I was. When I first started dating girls, you might well imagine the consternation it

That said, I thought it bore mentioning especially here on DA though, that I work for HIRE. If your sweet RPG project, or video game pitch has no budget at all for art, it will save both of our time if you don't try to tap me for artwork. I Do realize I'm passing up an amazing opportunity for me to make my portfolio way more awesome, and that I won't be getting that free publicity. It's a risk I'll have to take.

1. What sort of artist do you find using your stock most often? Who do you want to see more of? (comic artists, illustrators, traditional/studio artists, photo manipulators, figure artists, etc)
Mostly my stock is used for photomanipulations, however, with my pose reference it has been a lot of traditional work, which I LOVE! I'd really like to see more traditional drawings. I just really love trad work; I like seeing pencil marks and the texture of

How did you make the transition from stock photography to pure portrait work and other Photography?
I think I transitioned quite smoothly! It seemed like a natural step! Also, with stock you don't really edit and i enjoyed using concepts on myself that i planned for others and getting to know how to edit images etc.
Do you have any other artistic talents?

How did you originally get into stock?
It all started with my ex. She has a passion for photography, and at the time I got an offer at my University to be a model for the photography class. So I took my ex with me, and since the photos were shot in a studio on a blank background they were perfect for stock. As the amount of photos taken grew, I figured I could share them with the rest of DA. As far as inspiration goes, DA has some very talented stock artists, such as `mjranum-stock, *Tasastock and ^PirateLotus-Stock, and I’m just happy to give my contribution.
Now he's made me blush!

What Is Stock
Stock Photographs and Images are uploaded for others to use in digital or traditional art. They can be incorporated into art or used as reference. In most cases, you are required to credit and notify stock artists once you upload your work to deviantART. However, it is imperative that you review individual artists requirements or rules to see if there are any exceptions. Usage
