Important Site Update that Affects StockChanges to .zip file submissions that will affect youImportant Site Update that Affects Stock3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I know some of you might already be aware of the changes that have happened if you have sent in help desk tickets about it, however for those of you who aren't yet aware; there has been a statement issued here -
Effectively, password protected zip files are no longer accepted on the site.
Whilst it is a huge disappointment that password protected zip files are no longer accepted, I would rather this be the case than to allow a potential access area for somebody to try and infect your computer by submitting what might look like a genuine stock pack or .exe file, and despite this being an inconvenience and what feels like a step back, I'm sure you would all agree.
There are alternatives for submitting/sharing exclusive stock packs etc, including using your sta.sh for normal zip files as sta.sh is a private area, accessed only when you give out the sta.sh link of submitted - but unpub
Putting my Stock in StorageTime for me to start putting my stock in storage for reasons explained in my previous journal entry:Putting my Stock in Storage2 years ago in Personal More Like This
(Last Updated Count: 2062 stored images)
If you're interested in the details, I believe I've made my reasoning pretty clear and I don't want to harp on it any more than I have to. Instead, I would like to thank you for your support & appreciation. This community has been very helpful in making me grow as a stock provider, photographer and visual artist. I've learned so much from your feedback, admiring your works and just randomly surfing this site with child-like excitement for the next leap of inspiration.
I still plan to keep a presence here, just more like a friend and observer moving forward. You do not need to worry about how these changes will affect any future uses of my stock, the standard Creative Commons license (Attribution 3.0) will still apply. I would ju
Journal updated, with my scanning technique=======Journal updated, with my scanning technique2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've got so many questions about how I scan my traditional artworks, I also wanted to try out my deviantart Sta.sh storage, so I've uploaded some scanned files and put them on this journal.
Here's my method.
: I use HP G4050 scanner
: My current working OS is Windows 7, but I always use Windows XP to scan my artworks
: I always put 2 bluish-tint transparent films under my pictures when scanning. [You can buy transparent film at stationery stores.]
: Then adjust colors with photoshop, I always set contrast to [+12] or [+14] and I always use legacy contrast.
: I also adjust sharpness sometimes.
[filter>sharpen>unsharp mask> and adjust radius to : +1 pixels.
: Remove all eraser dust using clone stamp tool and it's done.
Someone might wonder why don't I use windows 7 for scanning, why do I have to put 2 transparent films underneath, and why they have to be bluish tint, I have uploaded some sample images for you to compare.
Contest?I've been thinking of doing a contest several times now, and once I almost held one but then I forgot all about it.Contest?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
But I think I want to start a contest for real this time. And have the 1st price be a 12 month premium membership..! (and perhaps a drawing of some form, either digital or traditional, we'll see.. :3 )
So, kind of a big contest, I guess..? But I've so far no idea what the contest should be about. I want it to be a contest that everyone can enter if they want to, no matter if they're an artist or a writer, sculptor or whatever. But at the same time, it's a bit hard for me to do contests, because contests are about picking a winner, someone who's "better" than the other contestants, and I personally would feel incredibly mean to judge others like that. I don't want people to get upset or feel down or whatever, you know?
So, I might need a few people to help me judge, like, finding the top 10 or something, and then picking the winner based on a public vote, kind of... I f
9 Reasons to PAINT WITH WATERCOLOR1. - Watercolors are FAST. They dry fast and you can finish a painting within one day. Given that you learn with every finished painting, you learn fast!9 Reasons to PAINT WITH WATERCOLOR3 years ago in Personal More Like This
2. - Watercolors don't stink. No dangerous chemical fumes, no headaches, usable around little children. Isn't that a wonderful reason!
3. - Watercolors are easy to clean. You don't make a lot of mess, and if you do, what water fouled, water will clean.
4. - There is no need for white paints. All the lightness is already given by your paper.
5. - Watercolors are practical to use outdoors. All your tools will fit into a small pocket.
6. - Watercolors are RELAXING. It must be the flooding, but whenever working with water and brush, your mind is set on ease.
7. - Watercolors bring transparent, delicate and ethereal results. Sometimes even a few well-lead brush strokes deliver sightly accomplishment.
8. - Watercolors are DIVERSE. They can be used in many very different ways and are ea
Is dA and its Group system slowing dying out?Hello everyone! Is dA and its Group system slowing dying out?1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Before you read, please keep in mind that my intentions are not to blame, insult, criticize, or say anything harmful about anyone! The intentions of this feature if anything, is to motivate us all in improving the group system and dA as a whole! ALSO this is focused more largely on photography, digital art, and a few other mediums, but I don't claim to speak for the cases of other mediums and types of groups that I am not familiar with.
EDIT: To make things clear, I don't believe dA or Groups will ever be "dead" in the sense of them not existing anymore, or members in both factions not existing either, I'm using "Death" more metaphorically perhaps, in saying that the way the group system is intended to be working, has been failing, and needs improving in order to not fail its purpose, and that dA needs to do something to strengthen the community sense and interactions between members both in groups and in the dA com
5 Reasons to do it the traditional way5 Reasons to do it the traditional way5 Reasons to do it the traditional way1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Traditional and Digital art are both completely different mediums, able to create the same product. It is possible to paint a beautiful, watercolor-like painting digitally, as well as achieve the cleanliness and color options of a digital piece traditionally. Therefore, using one or the other to express ourselves creatively is, just like many things in life, just an option. People may have personal, sometimes even illogical reasons for using one or the other and that's fine. Today, however, I'm a cheerleader for the "traditional side", and I offer you 5 reasons to do it traditionally!
1. Oh the wonderful smell of art supplies > I'm not talking about the toxic smell that come painting techniques require, of course. Rather about the feeling you get when entering a huge art supply store, touching all those brand new pencils and tubes
SPIKE updates - nov2013Yesh, it's about time I gave you guys an update on the progress of my novel, "SPIKE".SPIKE updates - nov20131 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've gotten a lot of notes and comments asking when the book will be finished, how far I've come in the writing process, or how many chapters there are so far, and so forth... And I love getting questions like that, because that means people are interested in my work, many of which say they even love my work, and.. just wow, I mean, I'm completely honest when I say that it means a whole lot to me. And I'm serious when I say that without the support from you guys (you all know who you are <3 ), I would never have bothered continuing the SPIKE story. I would probably just have posted chapter 0, deleted it, and stuffed it all in a drawer and possibly even given up on the whole story-teller dream. Feedback is very important to me, which sounds very selfish, I know, but I used to be incredibly insecure of myself and everything I did. I had this dream of becoming a cartoonist to have my stories told, and
Stock Rules!-Revised Oct. 16th 2012Updated October 16th, 2012Stock Rules!-Revised Oct. 16th 20123 years ago in Personal More Like This
So it's about time I did one of these
Just to clarify in case anything is too vague.
These are the rules I have so far posted on each picture;
1.) You can use the image in any way you want, a portion of it or the whole thing, it doesn't matter to me.
2.) Credit me
3.) As long as you credit me, you can make prints of your artwork that uses my stock, or post to other sites (let me know via comment or note though please so I know what site)
4.) Don't use for hateful purposes
5.) You don't have to tell me before you use it, but link me when you are done (I will fave your deviation!)
6.) Faves are obviously not required, but super appreciated
7.) If you use as a reference only for things like pose or lighting (in other words, you aren't trying to make your artwork look like my photo) then you do not have to credit me, but I still want to see your artwork when you're done! If you are using it as a reference and are trying to make it look like my photo, then I st

Updating and changing my rules on commercial useI have been receiving a lot of inquiries over the use of my stock for commercial use, and I have also recently had troubles with a use of my stock in a commercial project. Up until today I have been simply asking for a donation or a copy of the work being published/made, and this has not gone so well for me. I have received very low donations (that wouldn't even cover the cost of the product being sold) or have never received the product at all. I have also received requests for use where people don't want to send me anything, but want to make money off of my images. So, I am changing my rules and fees regarding commercial use. I am no longer taking donations, and will have a minimum fee set for any commercial inquires.Updating and changing my rules on commercial use1 week ago in Personal More Like This
