How They Did It: The Story Behind the Shot V3HTDI:TSBTS aims to guide emerging photographers by showcasing tips, techniques, and stories generously shared by some of dA's most accomplished Photography > Animals, Plants & Nature artists. At the same time, we hope to shed light on the often overlooked amount of effort that is required to create striking images like these. Making a great photograph takes time, planning, a creative eye, and solid photography skills. What happens behind the lens is just as important as the final product! How They Did It: The Story Behind the Shot V34 years ago in Personal More Like This
I am sure many of you have been told "Great photo! You must have an awesome camera!" or "Wow, you sure were lucky to get that shot!" While a "good camera" and "luck" are small ingredients when creating a visual feast, we photographers would like to remind everyone that technical competency, determination, patience, and creative vision are the real meat and potatoes of any tasty photo.

To Capture Beauty IVTo Capture Beauty IV4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.
A morning-glory at my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books.
And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything.
Meet Terezka, baby fox with heartbreaking storyHello!Meet Terezka, baby fox with heartbreaking story4 years ago in Personal More Like This
People, I had SO amazing day yesterday!
The weather prognosis was very bad, but finally, the day was sunny and wonderful.
I woke up at 4:30 AM to get to Prague, where I met my friend BlueFox-cz. Together, we travelled to ZOO Děčín, where we saw babies of Máa and Tomáek, two foxes we know very well (BlueFox-cz was the one who took Tomáek to the ZOO in his car. And our friends were those who saved and rised Máa). Kits were cute, but already quite big. We spent few hours in the ZOO, watching baby wild cats, funny squirrels, a running wolf and of course, the foxes.
Then we moved to one wild-preserve. Our friends were given a baby fox!

Infrared photography is not a new technique: it's been around for over 100 years. The first infrared photograph was taken by Professor Robert Williams Wood and was published in the Royal Photographic Society Journal in 1910. Infrared photography became popular in the psychedelic hype of the 1960's, for example Jimi Hendrix, Donovan or the Grateful Dead released albums with infrared photos on their covers.
The famous Jimi Hendrix cover by Karl Ferris (1967) : http://www.bitchinentertainment.com/html_articles/hendrix.html
The world's probably best known infrared image is from a later date though, from 1984: U2's album cover for their LP, The Unforgettable Fire: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a0/The_Unforgettable_Fire.png by http://www.simonmarsden.co.uk/
So what is this infrared thing about?

ChickadeesOne year, when I was a ten year old boy, we had a very hard winter in Connecticut, with temperatures well below zero, high winds and deep snow. The radio told us to put out seed to keep the birds alive, and for the first time in my life, I did. My bedroom window opened to a widow's walk where I laid out a wooden tray which I filled with black oil sunflower seeds, blindly, not knowing if any bird would like them, or even find them there.Chickadees4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Two days later, there were about a hundred (how could one count them if one tried) black capped chickadees speeding from railing to tray and back to grab, shell, and eat the seed.
The old farm house had steam heat which I turned off in my room. I closed the door and shoved the window up and sat beside the sill. The tiny birds would hop right up as if it were no thing at all to be untamed and wild. Into the room they flew, and the boy became a naturalist, completely enthralled by chickadees. They had brought the wilderness to him, and filled his bedroom

But as you see, she is also a very talented photographer
We all want to capture his free soul reflecting her very unique personality. So she is the model of some photographers not captured only by me...
She captures macros and street photographs mainly but she is so curious to know many different style of capturing photographs. So she is always surprising me by doing different things and succeeding them v

Know your Basics - Composition (the manip way)The Rule of Thirds is another one of those expressions that you have probably heard before somewhere but aren't quite sure what it means. This article strives to shed some light on this rule as well as on how to use lines and shapes in your compositions to lead the viewer's eye to the important bits. There are some compositional rules and pointers that no artist should go without knowing!Know your Basics - Composition (the manip way)4 years ago in Personal More Like This
The Technical Part
Rule of Thirds
Thankfully this time, there are no hours upon hours of dry reading to be done because the Rule of Thirds itself can be explained rather easily:
"The Rule of Thirds states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections." (from the wikipedia article)

Permission Issues and Art theft: It's sadly a common thing now.
It is a huge problem on deviantART/ internetz.
But wait! IDK what art theft is..Then Read this!
Art theft is unacceptable. Think about how long people spend on their works. And how much of themselves go into it. Now someone else has spent 0 seconds and claimed it as theirs. NO.
You must credit resources. That includes OCs, stocks, brushes, textures, snippets of code(no, changing the colors of a journal skin does not mean you made it) , tutorials(sometimes).
Written credits. Google images is not good enough.

Feature: Night, Stars and StairsThis week's keywords are "night", "stars" and "stairs".Feature: Night, Stars and Stairs2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the first weekly feature I've chosen to search for images using keywords from my two latest uploads, seen below. I searched for deviations uploaded in the past week and picked those I thought deserved more attention. I'll be doing this every week. The amount of deviations I feature may vary a lot depending on search results and other factors.
So please, take a look at these and drop a comment or favourite any of them if you like them. I think they deserve some more attention at least.

Best Entries for November-December 2011 as chosen by the admin staff.
The following have been placed in the Featured Gallery and are discussed briefly here. Following the reorganisation of the Group, we have been very heartened by the support shown by members by way of submissions and comments. We have also had several new members, some of whose work is seen below.
I am not going to pick a winner, but the first two entries were picked by each of the five admin who took part.
“Angel” by 3whiteroses http://3whiteroses.deviantart.com/
“Red Red Hot” by dewanggapratama http://dewanggapratama.deviantart.com/
The Angel is a haunting IR portrait shot, while Angga's model illustrates the power of the more full spectrum approach.
The surreal nature of infra-red is always near the surface, particularly in these examples.
