Broken PiecesIn the midst of the silent twilightBroken Pieces5 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
I'm singing perfect symphonies
From the tree tops.
I'm shouting impossible histories
Of long lost ships
Sunken deep beneath
The ocean of my mind.
I'm screaming ideas
I've never had
I've never dreamed.
And I'm crying my darkest melodies
For all to hear,
Hoping beyond hope,
That the songbirds
And the slumbering oaks
Won't be the only ones
To catch these tiny snowflakes
As they fall from deep within my throat.
And by now I can't feel my lungs anymore
But that's okay
Because my beautiful mosaic heart
Is made from shattered pieces
And it's been running on salty ocean tears
For as long as I can remember.
I don't need this dead air anymore.
And I wonder why I ever had lungs at all.
