Awareness came back slowly to Vincent, his head and body aching. Those amber eyes slowly opened and a low groan escaped his lips. As he levered himself up, he carefully observed his surroundings. His eyes widened in panic as he saw he was in a strange cage, bars made of metal. In one swift movement he pressed his back against the wall of the cell, beads and bangles making noise as he did so.
"Good. You're awake," Cid said, half to himself and half to the native, coming up to the bars and unlocking the cell door.
As the light haired one approached the door, the native snarled and hissed, hand grabbing at his missing knife. This discovery only angered him more as he pressed his back harder against the wall. He should have just ran when he had the chance. This one was just like the others.
Cid entered the cell, closing the door behind him and leaning back against it. "You don't gotta be afraid of me, y'know. Don't be afraid."
Amber eyes regarded the creature susp
Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 4Vincent paced his dark cell, anxiously peering out the bars every few moments. Cid had managed to return his beads and jewelry to him, their weight comforting after their absence. Vincent walked up to the bars again, trying to see any glimpse of the captain.Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 43 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This
Suddenly, hard, panicked footsteps burst to life from the end of the hallway that contained the door to the main lab, followed by the appearance of Cid, panting and sweaty. He fumbled with the cell door. "We have to hurry," he gasped. Vincent watched as the pilot scrambled to unlock the door, and he glanced down the hallway to see why the pilot was so panicked.
"What do you imbeciles think you're doing? AFTER HIM!" came Hojo's screech. Cid unlocked the door and quickly leaped at Vincent's neck, pushing the button on the remote to unclasp the collar. Vincent caught it as it fell, normally warm amber eyes hardening into the true look of a warrior. He glanced at Cid and back down the hall from where the cry came.
Hojo was stumbling do
Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 7The next morning, Cid woke up without Vincent next to him. His mind clouded with worry before he remembered the events of the night before. He sighed and slumped back down for the moment, staring at the ceiling.Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 73 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This
Vincent looked back at the hut for what had to have been the hundredth time. He refused to sleep and it showed on his fair features. He had spent the night running over everything in his mind and he couldn't figure out what to do. He wanted, no needed, the pilot but didn't want to be hurt again.
Cid got up, stretching, and went outside. He stood at the entrance of the hut for a while, looking at Vincent and willing him not to run away again.
"Come here," he said quietly.
After a quick mental debate, Vincent slowly stood and walked to the pilot, keeping his gaze trained on the ground.
Cid reached out and took his hand, leading him back inside to sit on the furs they used as their bed. "Look. I dunno what... went on, but I want you to know that... whatever it was... it'll

"I don't care." Cid ran a hand over his face. There were dark shadows beneath his eyes, and his skin had taken on a sickly pallor from lack of sleep and stress. The look didn't suit the normally strong and vigorous man.
"He would want you healthy, Cid. You are not going to him by doing this to yourself," Aeris said gently, laying a comforting hand on the man's shoulder.
"What do you want me to do?" Cid asked scathingly. "Run around outside while he's dying in here?"
Aeris ignored the pilot with ease, "You have to at least get some sleep. If I bring another cot in here, will you sleep?"
"Not promising anything," Cid grumbled, looking away from Aeris and back to Vincent.
Aeris only smiled slightly, before going and retrieving another cot and setting it next to Vincent's. She headed back out and paused before she closed the curtains, "Please Cid. For him." With that, she left
Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 11"Feelin' any better today?" Cid asked, coming in through the curtain with more water. It had been three days since Vincent had first opened his eyes, and Cid was out to make sure that he'd never have to be scared of them never opening again.Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 113 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This
Vincent cracked open his eyes and smiled slightly, still paler than normal, "A little."
"That's good." Cid sat on the edge of the cot and took the cloth off of Vincent's forehead, soaking it in the water to cool it again. Vincent sighed at the touch of the cool cloth. He looked up at the pilot, whose face was drawn and lined with worry.
"Aeris says there's still a chance for you," Cid said, no sign of hope or worry in his voice.
Vincent placed a pale hand on the side of Cid's face, "I'm alright."
Cid frowned. "No, you're not."
"Cid," Vincent protested. "I'm fine."
Cid avoided Vincent's eyes, trying to swallow his despair. "Alright."
Vincent sighed and slowly levered himself up upright, wincing as his wound twinged
Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 13Cid swallowed hard, fidgeting with the beads around his neck as they waited for the elders. Aeris had led them to the central, larger hut that was used for important meetings between the elders and other notable village people. Much like Vincent's own home, a fire burned vigorously in the center of the hut, smoke exiting through an outlet in the ceiling. Vincent stood tall and stoic beside the pilot, body coiled with tension. His usually expressive eyes were blank and showed nothing to what he was thinking.Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 133 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This
As soon as the curtains covering the entrance to the hut opened, Cid whipped around to face the first elder to enter. His hair was lighter than most of the other natives' (though still not as light as Cid's) and, as a sign of sophistication and power, Cid supposed, wore long animal skin robes, rather than Vincent and the other tribal boys' more revealing ensembles. He smiled slightly at Cid as the other two elders entered behind him. A tall stern looking man with a long scar down hi
Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 6At the pilot's insistence, they finished their meal, enjoying each others company and the sounds of the jungle. Vincent stoked the fire from were he lay. He had unrolled several large furs next to the fire and had crawled under them, wanting to learn at least a few words before he fell asleep.Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 63 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This
"Alright." Cid sat indian-style in front of him. He turned slightly and indicated the flames. "Fire," he said.
Vincent's gaze flickered to the fire and back. "Fire," he repeated with a lilting accent.
Cid took Vincent's hand and guided it along the fur beneath them. "Fur," he said slowly.
"F-Fur," Vincent said, stumbling slightly. Why did this language have to be so rough compared to his?
"Um..." Cid looked around the hut, trying to find something else to teach him. "Hmm...."
Vincent's eyes landed on his weapons, his spear leaning in a corner and his bow hung on the wall. He nodded his head towards them.
"Ah." Cid stood, walking over and first touching the bow. "Bow," he instructed.
Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 9Vincent stirred awake, feeling Cid tighten his hold around him and the soft warm furs covering them. "Somethin' wrong?" Cid murmured into Vincent's shoulder.Valenwind AU -- Two Worlds 93 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This
"...You're awake... and I'm tired..." Vincent murmured with his eyes closed, sleep slurring his words.
"Then go back to sleep," Cid said drowsily, yawning. Vincent curled back up into Cid's chest when distant gunshots filled the air.
Cid sat up, immediately leaping to his feet and pulling his pants on. "The fuck...?" Vincent dove out as well, pulling on his loincloth and strapping his knife to his thigh. In a matter of seconds, he had his bow strung and quiver strapped across his back.
Cid snatched up his metal spear and ran after Vincent out into the night, eyes searching for movement in the leaves. Vincent raced through the trees, not even bothering to slow down for Cid. His ear picked up the fierce cries of his people and the loud gunfire. He skidded to a stop as a scene suddenly appeared before them.
Arrows and spears littered
