The flag of the Kingdom of the American States from this map [link] called "The Grand Blue" in contrast to the American warflag, which is called "The Glorious Blue", or sometimes just "The Blue". The blue comes from the colour of American military uniforms, the sixteen stars represent the sixteen founding states (the thirteen from our world, plus Vermont, East Florida and West Florida), and the stripes represent war in red and peace in white (as the American States gained their independence through war there are more red stripes than white, in order to remind people of the nation's origins, and the occasional necessity of war).

Flag of the Prussian Commonwealth, Anglo-Iberian timeline.

This flag has been used since 1904, after the new borders of Prussia were consolidated. Compared with the previous flag, the two golden stripes were added to represent victory and new wealth, and the wings of the eagle were shown spread rather than folded, reminiscent of the Prussian War Flag used throughout the Great War, again representing victory and showing Prussia's prowess and dominance in north-central Europe as a military power.

Prussia lost much of it's global territories during the Great War, including - most devestatingly - most of Japan, which had been conquered earlier in the previous century. Even so, Prussia is still a dominant and major European power, and the Commonwealth includes territories in East Africa, Indochina, and the city-states of Aden in Arabia and Wilhelmburg in Australia.

The American Age-->

Time For a little Back Story Children:

In this timeline America and France stand as the two most powerful nations on Earth, a fact that has remained as such since the World War (1919), and periodically since the Great American War (OTL War of 1812).

Germany has never been united, however with the formation of the Council of Germania, there is finally hope to end the centuries of warfare between the Germanic states of Prussia and Rhineland. Austria has recently joined the council as well, under the leadership of President and United Germania icon Alois Hitler.

In the Caucasus National Syndicalist leader Ioseb Stalin's reign is nearing its end, as the Man of Steel nears death's door. Many fear civil war will break out upon his end.

In America it is a time of National Pride not seen since the turn of the century. The Chaotic Years have come to an end and with the inauguration of President Rose Wilder Lane, the country has signaled that it is time for a change from the policies of the Roosevelt (Elanor) years.

In Asia, China has entered a renaissance of economic and cultural development. The two century alliance with the United States seems to have finally brought the country into the developed world, and with the decline of Japan and Russia, China stands as the soul power in Asia.

4 Different proposals for an alternate Alaska that I had designed. The first one I chose to put into the flagdesign challenge that was posted on the Alternatehistory, com forums by JJXDB:

CHALLENGE:

Design the flag for an Alaska that was never purchased by the USA, with its capital at Novoarkhangelsk (OTL Sitka). Your entry may pertain to one of the following options:

Option 1: A fully integrated Russian majority Krai of the Russian Federation, assuming the butterfly effects of this are minimal and history continues as it was OTL during the 20th Century.

Option 2: A Russian majority independent Alaska, who won independence after the 1917 Revolution with the backing of both the British Empire and the USA. This Alaska may be a Republic or Kingdom, but is hostile to communism

Option 3: An Aleut majority independent Alaska, who won independence after the British Empire intervened on their behalf. Again, this Alaska may be a Republic or Kingdom, gaining independence during the October Revolution and is hostile to communism

Option 4: An Aleut and Canadian dominated region absorbed into Canada, with the decision by the Russian Government that selling Alaska to the British would pose less of a threat selling to the rising star of America. This happens in the run up to WWI.

Someone on the AlternateHistory.com forums posted a flag for a 19th century Scandinavian Union. He wanted a flag for the unified Scandinavia created by the Scandinavist Surge event chain in Paradox Interactive's Victoria that didn't look like the flag of the old Kalmar Union.

Since I had been walking around with similar ideas for a while myself, I figured I might as well give it a try. This was the result, and I'm quite pleased with it overall. Sweden may be the dominant party on the flag, but that's only natural, as any unified Scandinavia created in the 19th century would most definitely have Sweden as its most dominant member.

A scenario like this would most likely need a PoD further back than the 19th century to be realistic, as there weren't exactly a lack of hard-feelings between Sweden and Denmark, but something along the lines of it did indeed come close to happening. The King of Sweden-Norway did give Denmark considerable military aid in the First War of Schleswig, creating a sense of brotherhood among many of the people of Scandinavia, for instance.

When the King of Sweden-Norway wanted to intervene on Denmark's side in the Second War of Schleswig, however, his efforts were denounced by the Swedish parliament and the Pan-Scandinavian movement was thus shattered.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
History: The Birth of the Commonwealth of Scandinavia
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the Prussians invaded Schleswig-Holstein in 1864, initiating the Second war of Schleswig, they found that Bismark's political calculations had been off. Not only did Denmark continue to put up stiff resistance, but Sweden-Norway once again came to their aid as well, as they had once before in the First War of Schleswig more than a decade ago.

While the Prussians might still have been able to take Holstein despite the unexpected Scandinavian resistance, Bismarck saw the potential future threat of a reborn - and hostile - "Lion of the North". He therefore offered a compromise: Schleswig-Holstein would be split in two, with Schleswig staying with Denmark and Holstein going to Germany.

Denmark reluctantly agreed to this compromise, as it saw that long-term resistance against Prussia would most likely be fatal. While this could hardly be considered a victory in the global scheme of things, it did have a profound effect on the people of Norway, Sweden and Denmark alike. The Pan-Scandinavist movement that had been formed after Sweden-Norway's participation on Denmark's side in the First War of Schleswig grew stronger, and a sense of common cultural, linguistic and historical heritage replaced the feelings of patriotism to one country alone.

The King of Sweden capitalized on this, suggesting to the King of Denmark a return to the days of the Kalmar Union, when all three kingdoms were as one. Denmark, no longer in a position to ever becoming a major power again, eventually accepted his proposal. On the 19th of August 1867, the three kingdoms were once again formally united. The Commonwealth of the Three Crowns of Scandinavia , or just the Commonwealth of Scandinavia, was thus born.
