I had just entered a treasure-trove. It was a tantalizing world, hidden from view from the rest of the world. My jaw dropped in disbelief
"Take what you like, young man," said the sweet little old lady who stood by my side, garage door clicker in hand. She was a neighbor and had invited me to her home in our sleepy suburban neighborhood because she had, in her words, "a few art-supplies to give away,"
So here I stood, in her garage, which was filled with what appeared to be literally thousands of paintings, stacked tightly in bundles from floor to ceiling.
"These were my husband's paintings", she explained." Maybe you could paint over them and re-use them."
"What? Paint over them?" I asked in horror. "What are you saying? Don't you want your husband's paintings?" The sweet old lady shrugged and shook her head, in a sad, quiet way. "What can I do with these?" She responded. What you don't take today, the trash peopl

I think poets, like any other artists, need to step out of their boxes and comfort zones and try new things. Again, to all of you who read and/or faved my work...many thanks. He who waits…
I know it is long overdue and that I promised this contest a relatively long time ago. Many apologizes to all and everyone who patiently waited, sometimes less patiently asked what's going on or felt betrayed by my reluctance to finally start this contest. I tell you, there are brain surgeries done with the less fuss around it…and for all those reasons: very honest "sorry" guys. You have been wonderful so far, even when you filled my notes inbox with questions and I am grateful for the interest you haven shown, even when I didn't managed to reply all of the notes.
To tell you the truth, I truly didn't expect such amount of interest, especi

In terms of sheer creativity and the true spirit of art as human expression that knows no bounds,
he is currently with few peers. His unique visual creations have been featured in newspapers, magazines
and other publications worldwide and over the last few years his works have begun to populate art galleries

Animism in Thailand, Hmong villageA Hmong shaman performs an ancient ritual for longevity and health by the sacrificing of a pig in Mae Charim district, Thailand. These rituals seen as barbaric for more monotheists are a staple of the origins of religions when blood and life tie together. An old lady suffering some illness went to the see a shaman in a Hmong village, a ritual compromising of blood and sacrifice was held at sunset until late at night it starts with the old lady putting her feet on a pig. Latter the medicine man circles around her chanting and burning small pieces of papper, until it's time to sacrifice the animal, which will be used as food for the ladies family.Animism in Thailand, Hmong village3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This sort of ritual is not particular to the Hmong people, many other shamans will sacrifice an animal as an offering to the "spirits".
The shaman circles the old lady.

I don't know if you know this, but I'm starting a revolution. It already started, but I didn't know it, and only now have I decided to become an active participant. I aim to tear down, raze, destroy, obliterate, plunder, pillage, rape, piss on, fart next to and keep as a paperweight used as a doorstop everything that defines modern written "poetry", because it all sucks, quite frankly. I know my subjects of choice aren't exactly rainbows and starcum, but the pacing of "mainstream" poetry is a plod, a poor American attempt at a post-modern haiku epic, an obsession with imagery and atmosphere over messages with forward momentum or much logical thought to physical presentation (save to maintain the plodding putt-putt pacing).
"It would take me less time to slit my wrists than it would to read this poem."
And then the real "progressive" written "poetry" being put out there is pigeonholed into terms like "typography" or "kinetic typography" (both types of written po

Matt and I broke up last night. And it is finally a "real" one where we both just know it is over and though neither of us is particularly happy about it, we're going our separate ways. My way is taking me back to Washington, to my family and my roots. And I've got very mixed feelings about it.
On the one hand, I miss my family terribly. I miss being able to play cards with them, watch TV with them, braid my sisters' hair, tickle my nephews' stomachs, tell my dad he's being an idiot for spouting conservative nonesense (the kind that really IS nonesense). I miss having that support network be tangible and in my same timezone. But I don't miss all the responsibility that came with it. The picking up my drunk father when

I thought i would post it in my journal as well should anyone be interested . Information is worth it's weight in gold, and it is important that we inform ourselves. After all the planet is our life.
Information is the key to knowing your fight, or even your reasoning for despair. over the years i have collected a few sites that have provided me with good information as well as avenues to express my concern. I would like to share them now, and if anyone has info links they would like to add please do.

I feel like I haven't been that active on here lately but then again I have been doing things enjoying my summer.
Firstly the charity fancy dress walk went quite well. We collected just over £30 in the bucket we took with us. However as is the case with our town we got some funny looks and jeers, not that it bothered us. At some point we are meant to be in the local paper but I don't know when that will be. I'll keep you informed. I had a pretty bad morning with time keeping mainly due to the contact lenses where one just refused to go in my eye. I've only worn contacts once before and that time my eye was red and itchy and I kept it in for about two hours, these ones I kept in all day with no problem, these are the ones I'm wearing in my current

What a good feeling to see this. I would like to thank deviant :iconJohnAndrewE:
for his incredibly in-depth, detailed, and beautifully written review of my book. Deviant Art has blessed me not only with valuable friendships, but with an audience for my poetry who truly appreciates and values it. There is no greater feeling in the world. THANK YOU, JOHN for this review. I'm floored and absolutely humbled by your words.
I hope to have a NEW POEM up here in the next day or two.
My novella SADIE, after transcribing all hand-written notebook pages into the OPEN OFFICE DOCUMENT, is now up to 60 pages, exactly!!! Very exciting....

New Zealand's military video of the funeral HakaThe Latest Ally Leaving AfghanistanNew Zealand's military video of the funeral Haka3 years ago in Personal More Like This
as reported in Andrew Sullivan's 'daily dish' today -
New Zealand just announced a withdrawal as quickly as possible. Though their contigent was small (less than 150 soldiers), their decision comes on the heels of similar announcements from France and South Korea. Since deploying to Afghanistan in 2001, ten Kiwi soldiers have been killed in the conflict, three in a roadside bomb attack last week. When the bodies of New Zealand's war dead are returned home, they are met with a traditional Maori war dance called a Haka:
Various actions are employed in the course of a [Haka], including facial contortions such as showing the whites of the eyes and the poking out of the tongue, and a wide variety of vigorous body actions such as slapping the hands against the body and stamping of the feet. As well as chanted words, a variety of cries and grunts are used. Haka may be understood as a kind of symphony in which the different parts of the body represent many i
Mini Contest: The Last Headline Yeah, yeah, I'm LATE. I KNOW. Thanks for humoring me, everyone!Mini Contest: The Last Headline3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's a standard trope. The Final Cataclysm has come and gone, and the reader or the movie-goer is treated to a vision of a blasted landscape. Cars overturned. Buildings in ruins. The moan of wind. Abandoned teddy bears and cell phones. Maybe a single shoe. Not a soul in sight. Suddenly, a lone newspaper blows across the cratered street. Emblazoned across the page is a dire headline fortelling the End Times, or giving cryptic hints as to the nature of our doom.
I want you to write that headline.
Post your responses as comments on this journal. On Friday the 13th of July, I'll pick the best three headlines, and give 200 points each to those chroniclers of woe. Be creative, be funny, be ironic, be macabre.

toy beartoday's subject is toy bear. my sister never had a toy bear as a girl growing up. this fact could make today's subject a bit sad. you have to be aware that toy bears are important to girls. they're also a symbol of success. i know a girl who has about 53 bears, all different. one from every boyfriend. none of those bears are from me.toy bear3 years ago in Personal More Like This
toy bears are neat cause they don't know they're toys. they are just bears with soft fur that have it good all year. they stay in or pretty-near a bed. they get hugged by happy little girls (and girls of other ages as has been mentioned). seldom are toy bears dropped on the floor or thrown at people, like other toys or stuffed animals. no, toy bears come with a certain power. even if you were to think of throwing toy bear to the other side of the room, you'd not be able to do it. they're too cute, and you

Introducing: SenshiStock Sketch Web App!Hey all!Introducing: SenshiStock Sketch Web App!7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Many of you have been asking me for something like this for years, so I'm really excited to make this announcement! Thanks to my handsome husband, cairn4, we now have a beta version of SenshiStock Sketch, a web app for gesture and sketching practice using SenshiStock images. You can also think of it as a SenshiStock randomizer!
Here's what it looks like and how it works:
Check it out here:
There's only 463 images right now, but I will be adding more soon. You have the option to change the timer and there's a link to visit the full image on DA if you want to work from it for a bit longer (you can also pause the timer to keep the current image up longer). This site should work fairly well on most mobile devices too, but please give us feedback if you run into any technical issues!
Also, if you guys missed
