It's not so good, actually. Can you believe that it took the artist TEN years of constant drawing practice until she was able to draw this?
I believe it, because I'm the one who drew it. I was eleven years old, and had been drawing all my life because it was fun. Because it was an improvement compared to what I drew at age seven, I used to believe that improvement would magically come by itself if one just kept drawing from their imagination, and doing nothing else. New forms and understandings of anatomy would coincidentally happen to come, little by little. Hadn't it been like that for all those years? From my drawings I could see that I didn't know how to draw an arm correctly, but I believed that if I would draw the arm over and over again from my imagination, the arm would suddenly look better at some point because I had invented a new way to draw it.
Needless to say that improvement is painfully slow when you draw from your imagination exclusively. I met an a
You DO suck - The Comprehensive Bullying GuideOkay, so this blog is going to cover this whole "bullying" awareness going on the internet. You DO suck - The Comprehensive Bullying Guide2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Basically, I don't give a shit about this, because I'm like a decade out of high school, and when I see people my age, or just in their twenties argue about bullying I just don't get it. But then, it's all social dynamics, and well, the "bullying", under a different name, happens to adults too, under different names, so maybe I can talk about it.
As always, I'll try to tell you people the actual truth, not the pretty bullshitting that is usually done to address this phenomena. No sugarcoating, no nothing. It's fucking time to look yourself in the eye. This blog will be long, so brace yourselves for the tl;dr.

I like watching nature shows on the internet time from time. Not because I'm a huge animal lover, but because I'm a really materialistic person in daily life, and watching animals tells a great deal about people. Our behavior is reflected in the behavior of
to be beautiful"What happens if you fall in love with a writer?to be beautiful2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Lots of things might happen. That's the thing about writers. They're unpredictable. They might bring you eggs in bed for breakfast, or they might all but ignore you for days. They might bring you eggs in bed at three in the morning. Or they might wake you up for sex at three in the morning. Or make love at four in the afternoon. They might not sleep at all. Or they might sleep right through the alarm and forget to get you up for work. Or call you home from work to kill a spider. Or refuse to speak to you after finding out you've never seen To Kill A Mockingbird. Or spend the last of the rent money on five kinds of soap. Or sell your textbooks for cash halfway through the semester. Or leave you love notes in your pockets. Or wash you pants with Post-It notes in the pockets so your laundry comes out covered in bits of wet paper. They might cry if the Post-It notes are unread all over your pants. It's an unpredictable life.
But what happens

Wait for the days
kiss over fast food
and bicker over bills
and wake together
to traffic noise
and the glow of brake lights
through the curtains
and I'll kiss your fingertips
as you touch the curve
of my lips
and there will be
laundry and doctor's offices
and street corners and
toilets backed up
and babies and roses and smiles
and we'll drink to
the past and the future
and forget we'd ever
Look here, lover
if my arms were long enough
I would reach across oceans
to touch your face
but I'm too small
and too fragile
so I'll keep you waiting.
I hope tomorrow
the world hiccups and chokes
and shoves us together
with a great seismic leap,
the earth moving
and cities falling
and coasts flooding
just because we were
meant to be that close.
When we are older,
I will again tangle our fingers
and kiss the sweat off your back,
walk naked from room to room,
sprawl out in a pool of sunlight,
and burrow into your breasts
and crack open your
BRAVE was... ok.Saw Brave the other night. I had deliberately kept all info about this movie away from me so that I could go in with a fresh viewpoint. There might be spoilers here, so if you haven't seen the movie tread carefully through this journal. To be honest, I don't really want to talk about the movie all that much, but more or less the public perception of this movie.BRAVE was... ok.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Brave was quite good, but I have a feeling it's not gonna have the impact so many people were expecting it to. Prior to the release, the fact that this was a PIXAR princess story with a female lead was SUCH a huge deal to some people. I think there were some lofty expectations that this was going to trump Disney princess stories and show women as strong capable role models without resorting to typical cliches and what not...
I'm not sure if that's what PIXAR was going for, in fact, the biggest complaint being lobbied against Brave is that it's both "too safe" and "too conventionally Disney." Brave is a good movie, but it does fo

Me & Vonnegut: Influence & StyleIf anyone has had a conversation with my for more than five minutes, it is quite possible that you've heard me say either "my novel" or "Kurt Vonnegut." I really can't help it. Even though I have often cited Vonnegut as one of my inspirations in writing, it is difficult to really pinpoint anything in my writing that is similar to his. It is simply that I adore him, even though I doubt that I will ever be able to create anything that is similar, or even close to similar, to his candid satire and bleak absurdist humor. That being said, a dear friend of mine recently sent me a link to an article that he had written, "How To Write With Style." Reading it, I realized that he had indeed influenced me in ways that I hadn't realized. Partly, it is the way that he is upfront in all things, even his article. I thought I'd take the opportunity to reproduce it partially here:Me & Vonnegut: Influence & Style2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

ROUND ONE [edit: about the settings]ROUND ONE [edit: about the settings]2 years ago in Personal More Like This
(Be sure to check the flash!)
ROUND ONE OF SIXFOLD LEAGUE NOW COMMENCES
This round will be treated like a qualifier. We want you to show us what you can do, but don't go absolutely all out right at the start! A certain number of contestants (depending on how many participate in this round) will move on to Round Two.
In this round, your contestants will be having a ONE ON ONE BATTLE WITH YOUR FACTION'S ASSISTANT. You must show your character winning for your character to advance. Though the definition of "winning" is up to you! As long as it's clear (a draw would also be considered a victory). No switching Pokemon mid battle. You must pick one Pokemon and stick to it throughout the whole battle*.
*Note on the turn-based style fighting: it is like the games, but not exactly. Basically it just means taking turns, but you are more than welcome to mix it up as well. We won't penalize you for it.

These wonderfully color-coordinated windows into the very soul of DeviantArt are guaranteed to warm the cockles of my heart every time one trembles its way onto my screen. Black backgrounds, Comic Sans, and tormented critters pave the way to expressing things you previously thought you could never shout out.
I pour over the deepest, darkest secrets you reveal to the world, like "I'm really skinny but I still call myself fat" and, "I secretly hate people" and, "My mom doesn't know I self-harm, unless she uses the internet" and, "Friends are useless" and, "I feel so ignore by you" and, "I'm mean to my friends" and, "Fuck you" and, "Why do people hate me??" and "I'm not Asian".

I believe this is a great redesign of the original outfit and it has a great layout,
with comments and illustrations to clearly show the outfit's design. I fell in love
with the design and it's components, color schemes, and details. I can't wait
to draw Sunozone in that outfit!
I loved this so much, it was so hard to choose the other outfit over this one. I
love the tomboy look and how it stood out against the others. I loved the
goggles, shirt design, but most of all, those amazing pants!

Photography Troubleshooting: FiltersThis week we bring you another issue of Photography Troubleshooting to hopefully give you some tips and explanations behind how to make use of some photography accessories. If you have a question, query or any thoughts you wish to see discussed just drop us a comment or note!Photography Troubleshooting: Filters2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
"The use of filters, how to pick them and examples of situations where they would be helpful...."
Hi moria330, filters are a good way of diversifying your photographic opportunities without spending a great deal of money (though, granted, many of the better quality filters can get to be relatively expensive).
In film photography, filters were used a lot more extensively then they are today thanks to the nature of the medium.
For example colour filters were used for white balance purposes on colour films that were balanced for different light types, so, you could shoot artificial light balanced film under daylight if you had a filter that corrected for it.
AMBER SNIPPY'S FATE?I've had that dream again.AMBER SNIPPY'S FATE?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
That strange place, so distant, yet so close to my heart. Buildings as tall as mountains.
Dead structures, watching with dead eyes. Empty, vast and endless honeycombs of stone and steel. Air filled with gray ashes, always fluttering from the cloudy sky.
The black vortex opens up in the sky, descending down to the city. The vortex spiral rips the city apart, bending the air itself, feasting on light, feasting on time.
There is a lonely figure standing in the street.
No matter how hard I try to make out his or her expression, I cannot. Is there no face there at all? Or perhaps there is a million human faces there, intertwined and flickering in unison, as bright as the light of ten thousand suns?
The being stares into the abyss of the vortex.
It takes another step towards it, into the horizon of nothingness, into a place where nothing can exist.
The stones of the roadway beneath its feet crumble and flutter in t
ENGIE: RegretsI was at first too stupid to see that we were no longer using ANNIE but Annie was using us.ENGIE: Regrets2 years ago in Personal More Like This
She was a goddess in the machine, our search engine.
We used her to collect and share knowledge and in return she had started to use us as her processors. It was an unexpected transition and it took a long time, thus I failed to notice it, failed to stop it. The new organism had come to life in which we were only neuron cells of her massive mind, that spanned continents.
Humanity no longer had a chance to survive in it's current state. We had poisoned the oceans, we had scorched the earth and blackened the sky in our quest for power.
The world we knew was dying. I knew that this decade would be our last. The city would fall to the Zone, sooner or later.
Research notes from the last report of Charles Snippy terrified me greatly. They had found something horrid in the Dead Zone. Something that killed them all.

Halloween Feature (Not for the kiddies)Growing up, and until this day, Halloween was my favorite holiday. I sometimes ponder why, is it the dressing up that allows you to take on the personality of what you are dressing as? (hmm..that probably should be the right answer) Is it the dressing up for school dressed as a fair maiden all day long then take a short parade walk for the neighbors to gawk at us while we giggled? Nah, dawg, it was the CANDY!!! Must be why it was so hard in my teens, trying to find a date for any Halloween event. Thank God I can create my own party now. These pictures are all the rage. Food. Polymer clay food. There's a strange fascination between polymer clay crafters to make food, if you ask many of us won't even be able to explain what's so addictive about making fake food. Some of it is crafted for doll houses and doll props, some people make beautiful jewelry with food, but some just make it because it's so incredibly fun.
Drawing encouragementHey guys,Drawing encouragement5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Just got back from drawing workshop. Helped a few struggling students. Thought I could lift some spirits and confidence with advice given to me from my instructors.
Don't feel like you need to rush through a drawing because it's a " short " pose. What's the point of getting everything in if the placements and relationships are wrong? That's counterproductive and you're teaching yourself how to draw bad. Take your time. Look twice; mark once. Be loose but not sloppy. Remember that more lines don't equal a better drawing.
If you have an instructor that's telling you to draw a certain way that does not work for you. Still try it. Learning what NOT to do and what does not work for you is just as important. They're helping you to learn what habits to NOT develop.
If you feel yourself panicking because you think you're doing a bad drawing, take a breath and calm yourself. It's just drawing, have fun. Reme

Popular Fan ArtThis has been bothering me for some time now, and I've seen this sort of behavior even before I joined dA, but some folks honestly need to stop acting like artists who happen to draw fan art or fan comics for "popular" series automatically makes them "cheap" or that they're somehow shallow people because of it. People can actually, you know, like a series that's popular and end up wanting to draw fan works because they want to. Popular or well-known works or series are going to have lots of fans, so it's not exactly unnatural that more people might be inclined to draw fan art for certain series. It's one thing if you're not a fan of something popular, because it's completely normal for people to have preferences, but when you're just being dismissive of someone else entirely or looking down on them just because the subject matter they choose to draw is "popular" then it makes you look petty and/or jealous. Because, let's be honest, there are people who get really pissed and uptiPopular Fan Art2 years ago in Personal More Like This
