No holding back.
No self conscious.
Just indulgence in the act of painting.
The best way to improve is to learn as much as possible from the old mistakes. I have to paint and I will learn from the mistakes. No textbook or instruction video will improve my skills If I don't paint.
Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For YouSince we're on the subject of taboos, I feel it necessary to talk about this one. This one pisses me off and it's very much a cornerstone to a bigger issue with our artistic community: The idea and assumption that as an artist you MUST improve at all times. 24/7. No exceptions. Every work you produce must be 10x better than your last. You must constantly strive for perfection. To ignore this "truth" is to commit the terrible sin of rejecting the very concept of improvement, and you will never break out of your "comfort zone."Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For You2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm here to tell you that this is hogwash.
You should strive to improve. Never say that I don't encourage improvement. It's why you go to school, why you go to college, and why after college you continue to work on your art. You always want to be better. The problem is that far too many people have a strictly binary concept of what "better" is and on how to "improve."
First off, there is no pinnacle of perfection. There is no

I walked beside the evening sea,
And dreamed a dream that could not be;
The waves that plunged along the shore
Said only -- "Dreamer, dream no more!"
But still the legions charged the beach;
Loud rang their battle-cry, like speech;
But changed was the imperial strain:
It murmured -- "Dreamer, dream again!"
I homeward turned from out the gloom --
That sound I heard not in my room;
But suddenly a sound that stirred
Within my very breast, I heard.
It was my heart, that like a sea
Within my breast beat ceaselessly:
But like the waves along the shore,
It said -- "Dream on!" and "Dream no more!"
Words: George William Curtis (1824-1892)
Indonesia Cultures Aside From JavaFirstly, happy independence day to IndonesiaIndonesia Cultures Aside From Java8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Secondly, I apologize to my brothers and sisters in Indonesia for not including some of your cultures in Maaf story. I confess, there are many nation characters in Maaf and with limited screentime for Indonesia herself, I conviniently just picked few Indonesian cultures and history to be fitted to the storyline namely Sunda, Java, Bali, Bugis, Maluku, Aceh and Minangkabau.
From what I talked with some Indonesian Maaf readers, they are disappointed that I didnt include their culture and history to Maaf, such as Papua, Dayak, Minahasa, Bima, etc. I know realized how unfair I was to other Indonesian cultures. Every Indonesian cultures are struggling to survive and to be recognize in this era. It will be disrespectful of me to not include them in Maaf and let them share their tales as well. Some view that the story become Java-Bali oriented, and I would like to avoid that. I'd like to fix this and dedicated chapter 10 to focuss on Indonesia c

The Alternative Limb ProjectThe Alternative Limb Project by Sophie de Oliveira Barata is a project focused on creating highly realistic and unique prosthetic limbs for amputees. These limbs are designed to stand out, to draw attention to something many people are afraid to look at. The prosthetic are carefully designed by Sophie, a long time artist and special effects artist, to reflect the personalty and hobbies of the wearer. The goal of the whole project is to draw positive attention to something that is normally viewed in a negative light. While the pieces aren't necessarily meant for everyday wear, they function more like an expensive dress or a piece of jewelry that you would wear on a special occasion.The Alternative Limb Project2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

DON'T GO TO ART SCHOOL- By Noah BradleyDon't go to art schoolDON'T GO TO ART SCHOOL- By Noah Bradley2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The traditional approach is failing us. It's time for a change.
I'VE HAD IT.
I will no longer encourage aspiring artists to attend art school. I just won't do it. Unless you're given a full ride scholarship (or have parents with money to burn), attending art school is a waste of your money.
I have a diploma from the best public art school in the nation. Prior to that I attended the best private art school in the nation. I'm not some flaky, disgruntled art graduate, either. I have a quite successful career, thankyouverymuch.
But I am saddened and ashamed at art schools and their blatant exploitation of students. Graduates are woefully ill-prepared for the realities of being professional artists and racked with obscene amounts of debt. By their own estimation, the cost of a four year education at RISD is $245,816. As way

LOOKS LIKE IT'S A HOAX
I've always wondered on why people keep on copy-pasting these kind of things. It bugs me. Even if you do kinda feel afraid knowing that apparently there's a hacker that wants your hardrive to find your porn stash, is it so hard to Google its validity? I'm not asking you to freaking go to a time-travelling adventure for a 24-hour climb onto Mountain Doom to get across Narnia and battle with Tibetan monks wearing only your underwear. Type some shit with your keyboard to Google and voila! RESULTS, MADAFAKAS.
Still too lazy to do it? http://lmgtfy.com/?q=LIFE+OWNER

Clarifying an Issue with Stock ResourcesThere appears to be a fair amount of misunderstanding on the subject of stock resources so what I would like to do today is attempt to clarify several issues which are of importance to the artists who generously provide stock resources to the public for use and hopefully dispel the confusion and misinformation which is beginning to circulate.Clarifying an Issue with Stock Resources2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
The first issue at hand is in regards to your personal stock terms
Your Personal Stock Terms
Officially deviantART maintains only one "automatic" restriction and that is "No Commercial Use" and that particular restriction can easily be overridden by the actual stock provider.
We only ask a few things from you in return;
quotes from..."I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, And that enables you to laugh at life's realities."quotes from...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Adults are just obsolete children and the hell with them."
"You are you. Now, isn't that pleasant?"
"You can get help from teachers, but you are going to have to learn a lot by yourself, sitting alone in a room."
"If I were invited to a dinner party with my characters, I wouldn't show up."
"It is better to know how to learn than to know."
"Everything stinks 'til it's finished."
"You'll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut"
"Don't Cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."
"Be who you are and say what you mean, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."
