Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming3 years ago in Personal More Like This

No holding back.
No self conscious.
Just indulgence in the act of painting.
The best way to improve is to learn as much as possible from the old mistakes. I have to paint and I will learn from the mistakes. No textbook or instruction video will improve my skills If I don't paint.
Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For YouSince we're on the subject of taboos, I feel it necessary to talk about this one. This one pisses me off and it's very much a cornerstone to a bigger issue with our artistic community: The idea and assumption that as an artist you MUST improve at all times. 24/7. No exceptions. Every work you produce must be 10x better than your last. You must constantly strive for perfection. To ignore this "truth" is to commit the terrible sin of rejecting the very concept of improvement, and you will never break out of your "comfort zone."Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For You1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm here to tell you that this is hogwash.
You should strive to improve. Never say that I don't encourage improvement. It's why you go to school, why you go to college, and why after college you continue to work on your art. You always want to be better. The problem is that far too many people have a strictly binary concept of what "better" is and on how to "improve."
First off, there is no pinnacle of perfection. There is no
Street and the CityEXTREME STREET PHOTOGRAPHY - IIStreet and the City1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Are there places were street photography is impossible? Are there countries easier than others, or harder than others? How is it street shooting like in exotic places, or places you never visited, places that are completely different from what you are used to? I asked a few street photographers around the world to share with us their experiences.

When Mary asked me two write a journal entry about street photography, I immediately accepted and was honored. After replying and accepting her offer, I wondered what I had just accepted. Me? Talking about what it's like to do street? What do I know? And if you happened to read one of my journal entries (When things go wrong http://photocolo.deviantart.com/journal/When-Things-G

This month, Roots, a.k.a. :iconNattygrego: is interviewing Damien, a.k.a. :iconToolbazar:
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Damien, I'm french and I live in China.
I've bought my very first camera 3 years ago, a Nikon D5000. At this time, I was discovering China and I wanted to keep good memories of this period. So, instead of buying a compact I've bought the Nikon. Eventually, I was more and more curious and fascinated about this art.

I will try to repost Book One of The Seer this Christmas before school begins again.
I can't promise anything since I have a better way of posting it on dA now, hopefully keeping people from reposting it on other websites, but Dan Povenmire himself encouraged me to put it back up. He said some really encouraging words to me, and while he said he was not allowed to read it, he did enjoy the art I had posted.
So the story will go back up, PnF and all, within time. There will not be a sequel written for it, unfortunately, and I still want it to become an Imagination Jumpstart story eventually, but with Dan backing me up to a certain degree, that and I really do love the story, I will repost it for those who have enjoyed it so far.
And maybe even post a new contest. I think a few months was a good time off for a while. I've grown a thicker skin so while there are those who don'T like it, and while I am still unhappy with a lot of my writing, This was a preciou

A favor to ask of you...Happy late Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians, and Happy early 4th of July to our neighbours in the SouthA favor to ask of you...6 months ago in Personal More Like This
That aside, I need to ask all my loyal watchers of this group to do me a favor:
If you can watch different websites where one can post fanfictions. Please, if you see any sign of The Seer being anywhere other than here, alert me immediately. If you are part of that website, please try to send them a message (to the support team of the website, since i'm pretty sure the submitters won't listen) with proof.
I've had more and more people ask me to translate the Seer and post it on other websites. Obviously, NO is not a familiar word to most, and it frustrates me. Because it was people like those who basically encouraged me to remove The Seer in its entirety the last time.
They're are a lot of people who have expressed their interest and love for this story, so I would not want to remove it again. So please, if you all can keep your eyes peeled, I would appreciat
Photomanip Features :: August 2013Hello! As a way to give more exposure to fellow photomanipulators, every month I will be putting together a small feature of great manips under 100, and of some inspiring works over that number.Photomanip Features :: August 20131 year ago in Art Features More Like This
If you would like to recommend a work of yours or someone else's that is under 100, please do so in this journal or send me a note. Keep in mind that it has to be a photomanipulation submitted in 2013 or 2012, not earlier, and that it can't have more than that number of faves at the moment of your suggestion (I can't guarantee you that it will be included in the feature, though).
Enjoy! Please don't forget to visit the original works, fave if you like it or drop a friendly comment!

Clarifying an Issue with Stock ResourcesThere appears to be a fair amount of misunderstanding on the subject of stock resources so what I would like to do today is attempt to clarify several issues which are of importance to the artists who generously provide stock resources to the public for use and hopefully dispel the confusion and misinformation which is beginning to circulate.Clarifying an Issue with Stock Resources1 year ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
The first issue at hand is in regards to your personal stock terms
Your Personal Stock Terms
Officially deviantART maintains only one "automatic" restriction and that is "No Commercial Use" and that particular restriction can easily be overridden by the actual stock provider.
We only ask a few things from you in return;
