The Dynamic Duo
"Come on, Andrew," Jeremy was standing behind his good friend, spotting him as he lay on the bench press, "it'ssss all you buddy. Give it all you got." The large eight foot tall dragon was using every ounce of strength he could muster in his four arms as they bulged with power under his red and black scales. It took a good while but he eventually got around to doing his last complete rep. He sat up wiping the sweat from his face as his two pairs of well-sized pecs rose and fell with every breath from under his muscle shirt that was hugging tightly to every defined muscle from his neck down to his thighs. Letting out a strong and deep groan, Andrew got up from the bench feeling really elevated after finishing his hardcore workout as he stretched his wings out.
"Damn, that was awesome." The big dragon gave his arms a few good flexes seeing that they were most certainly bulging larger than before. "How about you Jeremy? I'll spot you if you want one last round."
"Nah, I think

Please, leave my son alone, take me instead. A middle-aged man was on the floor looking at a giant figure holding his child.
Ive always heard that its really nice to have offspring, said the beast, but honestly, I wouldnt really know, not ever having one of my own. And I dont think it would be fair to leave your little whelp without a father. The child was being crushed to death by huge hands covered in dark brown fur.
No, dont, Ill do anything, pleaded the old man, just tell me what you want me to do and Ill do it.
Hmm, said the monster, alright, if you want your son to live then you will come with us. Two others grabbed the man and carried him outside. As they were walking out, a cry of pain could be heard from inside that was suddenly cut off.
SON! cried the man.
Oops, said the murderous beast, as he dropped

Launa couldnt believe it. Her old friend, David Hemming, had come to Amsterdam all the way from Canada to see her.
Oh, David, She could barely contain her excitement, you have no idea how much Ive missed you all of these years. Launa was still giving him a bear hug.
Launa, exclaimed David; he was having trouble breathing with his giant friends huge arms holding him against her firm chest, I may be older and stronger since you last hugged me, but youre still crushing me. She immediately put him down and brushed him off. Surprisingly, David seemed completely unharmed after her monstrous embrace.
Sorry about that. Its just that I never thought that I would ever see you again. There are so many things I want to ask you, and Im pretty sure you have some questions of your own, too.

Despite the fact that David had become the age he needed to be in order to marry Wyanet, there still had to be a day's time of preparation. Everybody wanted this to be as happy and joyous as possible. Even though, it went without saying that Wyanet and David were dying of anticipation; they've been waiting for something other than marriage for the past eight years. It proved to be very difficult to break their promise to one another, but they knew, in turn, that it would make the event all the more special.
Another cause for happiness was that Launa and the others were getting along with David's family very well. On the other hand they still held a sense of bitterness towards David. His choice to lie and use them, though for the right reasons, cut deeply. They might have been happy for David in that he was finally reunited with his family and that the one who caused him so many miseries and manipulated Launa was now dead. But they still weren't ex

The next morning was very calm and peaceful. David could hear water running in the river, birds singing in the trees and see beams of sunlight shining through the cracks of the windows. Even though he had a really good night sleep and what not, David was still very emotionally tired from completely spilling his guts the previous day.
His little friend, on the other hand, was very anxious to get the day going. She tried to do everything: nuzzle his face, lick his feet, try to pull the covers off of him, but to no effect.
Please, said David, just a few more minutes.
Beginning to get frustrated, the vixen shifted forms once again, got a firm hold on his ankles and yanked him clear out of bed. David hit the floor with a thump.
All right, all right all ready, yawned David, Im getting up, just give me a while longer to make breakfast and get my things together.

Ah my head, David was waking up from his little nap, why does my head hurt so much. He was having trouble remembering what had happened to him. It then came to him that the last thing that he remembered was holding something furry, something huge. What was it; what was I doing? David thought. Then it hit him like the tree he had slammed into. Wyanet, wheres Wyanet.
As he hurried to get up, he felt sudden and sharp pain in his chest and right shoulder; he laid back down. His ribs hadnt fully healed and his shoulder was still dislocated.
Where the hell am I? Wherever he was, he wasnt back at the cabin. He way lying in big animal pelts of fur in what seemed like a teepee. David could hear voices coming from outside, but they were too indistinct to tell what was being said. So David slowly got up and peeked through the flap. Wyanet was talking to another Tokala, but he

Chapter Four: Finally Home
David couldnt believe what he was seeing: a letter with his name on it. He calmly went back inside so as to not attract any attention; this was his moment and he didnt want anybody to know about it. Ms. Proulxs office seemed to be the best choice, knowing how she was likely checking those three jerks into the ER in Churchill by now. After placing the rest of the mail in its usual spot, David quickly rummaged through the desk for a letter opener, not wanting to break the seal on the back.
Treating the envelopes contents like sensitive dynamite, David took them out slowly and carefully. However, when he took a good look at what he was holding, David realized that it wasnt at all what he was expecting. There was no letter from his mother or anybody, no message what so ever. Instead, there was a key to a box at the post office with the number 25780, a map with directions, a plane ticket, and a picture of a log cabin. At first D

Although he woke up quite early the next morning, David hadn't slept like he did last night in a very long time. Not only did Launa's little lullaby flawlessly enchant him into a peaceful sleep, but it also felt like it was the very first perfect and truly genuine moment he ever had with Launa. It wasn't that all of the other heart-warming times he had shared with her weren't priceless and unforgettable. Rather, it was the only one that happened with nothing emotionally painful or unpleasant right before or soon after. Nobody was crying or hurt, there wasn't a single ounce of negativity, and it ended with no feelings of awkwardness, no contemplating of vengeful pranks, no harsh words leading up to it, and no concerns of what hardships may lie ahead. Perfect.
Getting out of bed proved to be somewhat difficult, being as relaxed as he was. When David was finally on his feet he got dressed and walked out of his room to the smell of Launa preparing yet an

Chapter Five: Unexpected Consolation
Nearly a week has passed since David saw the vixen from the warm spring. And during this whole time he hasnt taken a single step outside his cabin. He was terrified to do so much as look out the window, and always had the feeling that he was not alone. Once in a while, however, David would question whether this strange and mystical creature meant him any harm. Conflicted between the fact that it hadnt even looked at all hostile, and that it seemed perfectly and fully capable of killing him.
Despite the truth that the cabin kept him safe from anything outside, David was anything but at peace and calm. Dreams similar to the one he had on his journey to the cabin were occurring every single night. They all were about, or at least involved, some huge unknown animal that was surely there, but David was never able to see it. Each one was more vivid and stronger than the last, making it harder and harder for David to tell whether he was awake o

Retrieving the mail was the only thing that David Hemming had to look forward to once a week. It was pretty much the only responsibility that was officially his, and was the only reason he had for not leaving this God forsaken boys orphanage. Not to mention evading the clutches of the hag who ran the place, Ms. Proulx.
He always told himself: This is the day, this is the day! David did not even waste the time to put on his coat or his shoes if they werent on already. It didnt matter that it was snowing in late fall and less than zero degrees outside. He made sure that nobody could lay their hands on the mail before him. The young lad didn't care if it meant being harassed all day by Camille and his gang, or doing all the chores that Ms. Proulx could think of. Over thirteen years had passed since his mother abandoned him on the front steps. Luck him, the fact that nothing bearing his name had ever come out of that rusty old box did no

David woke up yelling in terror. His heart pounding in his chest, so hard that he could feel himself rock back and forward from the force of his pulse alone. Cold sweat covered his entire body and his hands were shaking like shriveled leaves in a blizzard. It was another one of those strange dreams, but he couldnt remember anything about it, not a single thing, no matter how hard he tried. These nightmares have been getting worse over the years. Rather, he had been waking up with a stronger sense of fear and horror in his heart, but it felt like these feelings werent his own. He just didnt understand, and part of him hoped that he never would.
Knowing that he would not be able to sleep any time soon, David decided that the cool midnight breeze would help calm him down. So he went to grab his jacket and shoes; he was so glad that the spring snow had melted away weeks ago.

David had never been so cold in his life, even with the fur coat and pants that Maiara and Wyanet had made for him. Takoda also made a hat out of a raccoon pellet and Wematin made some slippers. The winter here was even more brutal than it was back at the orphanage. Everyone else, however, seemed to be happy as a clam in this weather. Their fur was so unbelievably thick. In addition, Wyanets and Maiaras coats had turned from having a light shade of gray to pure white.
Since there werent any fires during the day, David would have to find ways to keep himself moving around. Hunting was the best way to stay warm. The animals that he got managed to keep him warmer, but only a little. He would thank God everyday for not catching a cold, let alone pneumonia.

Even though she had no idea who or what to expect, Ms. Proulx still wanted the place to at least look presentable. One of the orphans was sitting in the library upstairs, looking at the books that were available.

Hurry and get up. Anybody who isnt ready and on the bus in an hour will be left behind to clean the whole orphanage.
That morning everyone woke up to the extremely effective alarm that was Ms. Proulxs hoarse voice. It was that day of the month Ms. Proulx took all of the orphans with her to the town of Churchill; the only day when Davids chances of enjoying himself were more than one in a million. Not hesitating, David jumped out of bed and quickly got ready. He didnt care the slightest that he was still in great pain from his beating last night.
David hurried downstairs to his awaiting breakfast, very hungry from missing last nights supper. He was glad to find out that todays breakfast was oatmeal with brown sugar and milk. David woke up the next morning with Wyanets arm around him. He laid there for a while feeling the soft fur on the arm that was holding him, but eventually got up to think about what had happened last night. Despite his knowing that the two of them trusted one another over anything else, he was still having doubts whether or not she would risk his safety. Especially when it meant crossing over into werewolf territory, let alone going back to the same place both of them were nearly killed.
Deciding that this was something that he couldnt think through with an empty stomach, David went to the central hut and got some breakfast. Even though he had been eating the same stuff since he arrived here, David had yet to grow tired of freshly prepared meat and fish. Despite what David and Wyanet had to painfully wait for during the past seven years, they still enjoyed each others company no less. Everyday was spent together, with neither one leaving the others side for more than a couple of hours. They had even moved into the same tepee.
Throughout the past few weeks or so, everyone had been telling David what he already knew regarding what was soon coming up: his twenty-fifth birthday, and in extension, his marriage to Wyanet.
In order to ease his mind, David decided to ask Wematin, Gahege and Bidziil to spare a few minutes to talk with him.

Over the past few days, Davids skill with a bow became very effective. Although he wasnt the best, his performance was impressive even by Tokala standards. However, not being able to shoot anything except stationary targets became quite tiresome. He wanted to challenge himself.

Lets get this over with. Megedagik ordered Pauwau to pick up Gahege and the rest of his loyal minions follow him into the middle of the Tokalan tribe when he was sure that David had chased Wyanet deep in to the dark wilderness. As they entered all of the Tokala within the camp began to charge their long time enemies, Bidziil being in front with his axes in hand. However, before anyone could shoot the first arrow or take the first killing lunge, Gahege came around Megedagik, but what they didnt see is Pauwau hiding behind him and holding Davids hunting knife being held to his back. This caused everyone to stopped, but feelings of deep and passionate hate only grew stronger and stronger by the second.
