3DS Updates and Mario Kart CommunitiesSort of a continuation of my last journal. I talked about briefly the 3DS update, but I didn't realize how extensive the update was till after I posted. So I thought I'd just give a quick rundown of everything that's new.3DS Updates and Mario Kart Communities4 years ago in Personal More Like This
The first big update is that the 3DS camera can now record 10 minute videos in 3D. There isn't much beyond that, but it's still really neat to be able to do. The videos are automatically saved to your SD card and like the pictures you can adjust how much they pop out or sink in by simply moving the analogue stick.
A new channel has been created called the Nintendo Zone. I haven't been able to use this myself yet, but from what I understand if you take your 3DS to a store like Best Buy, it's supposed to automatically update special content. This special content is kinda vague, but on Nintendo's website they list exclusive 3D videos, play select games online, discover new and old games for the eShop, and receive more surprise content. I'll probably be able to explain th
on censorship and sensitivity There’s a certain attitude that scares the shit out of me – let’s call it destructive sensitivity. It’s the philosophy that, if an idea is uncomfortable, it needs to go away. If an image upsets you, or reminds you of a bad experience you had, then not only should you not have to look at it, no one should be allowed to look at it. And if you can’t eradicate it completely, it should at least be buried so deep that a casual viewer would never stumble upon it. This kind of censorship is nothing new, but I feel like it’s becoming more and more common. So, why do I think it’s a problem?on censorship and sensitivity4 months ago in Personal More Like This
An important question we need to ask ourselves first is, what is the purpose of media, and particularly of fiction? Why do we read, why do we look at artwork, why do we watch movies? To only see happy things? As escapism? That’s certainly a
Digital art vs traditional artMy work colleagues and I were having a discussion on the value of hand drawn pictures vs those generated digitally. I work in the architecture industry and even though it isn't related to the visual art world directly, we do produce hand sketches of buildings and plans that can be seen as art in themselves, and sometimes we have programs generate 3D models and then apply the "hand sketch" filter on a perspective to give it that hand drawn quality.Digital art vs traditional art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The discussion got me thinking about art making in the present digital age in general. Does drawing something digitally make it less 'valuable' than drawing the same picture by traditional methods? Does the ease of creating quality work in greater speed and quantity actually de-value art? My biggest question is probably what values do people look for when they see art? If a piece of art (drawing, music, literate etc) brings out the emotional responses that the artist was aiming for in the
Comfortzone is your enemyOne of the hardest enemies on the mankind. It will make you keep your entire life limited to certain beliefs and actions. Its not a person, a force, a thing external that makes you do this. Its yourself. Lucky its something we can fight with some willpower and or discipline. By willpower you will just face it now because you re now feeling inspiration to be motherfucking awesome. By discipline you will do it because you have no mercy on yourself, you know you re both sculptor and mass; you have duty to be amazing . Today, regardless your reasons, you will do that creature you never did before. Today you will paint that landscape you never did before. Today you will face your fears.Comfortzone is your enemy11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Today we want you. To fight your comfort zone. Go forth warrior.
Seem's like someone can't let it go.Before I state what happened, let me tell you all a little bedtime story called, "The Butthurt Strikes Back."Seem's like someone can't let it go.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. A person by the name of :iconBuraiCybeast: made a stamp, stating that she hated certain fetishes, but did not hate the people that happened to LIKE the fetishes she put down.
Everything was fine and dandy, until....
... :iconGypa: arrived.
Full of dark rage and butthurt seeing her stamp, he attacked her in the most hilarious manner. He had lost the first battle, but soon came back, filled with even more dark rage and butthurt, and not only tried attacking her again, but also her friends....
And so, the day would come, when the Butthurt Wars would begins....
In all seriousness, this dude ---> :iconGypa: has some major issues. After seeing :iconBuraiCybeast:'s recent stamp, in which she stated that she didn't like certain fetishes, but NOT THE PEOPLE WHO DID LIKE THEM, Gypa, instead of doing the OBVIOUS thin
character design of Men and WomenAwhile back I was playing "Dragon's Crown" and when ever I play that game I think of the little hissy fits people had over the female character designs. So called "video games journalist" saying that they shouldn't let a 14 year old boy design their characters. In the debates that came up over female character designs in games there's one argument and response that came up a few times that bugs me a bit. I'm gonna paraphrase a bit...character design of Men and Women2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Its ok if the female characters are exaggerated or objectified , because the men are also exaggerated and objectified into unrealistic portrayals of men."
"Its not the same because both are male fantasy designs"
What bugs me about that response is that it comes off as a little one sided. It's saying that if a man comes up with an exaggerated design of a woman and is objectifying then its offensive because its his fantasy, but if a man dose an exaggerated design of a man that's obj

Hello fellow readers. This journal is not about me at all really... It is most likely about you! I have written paragraphs dedicated to those friends I have made that are close to me, have made an impact on me in some form, or I think are beautiful artists. I have had to speak with you on many occasions, and would have to know you more than just as an acquaintance in order for you to be on this list. If you are not on this list, it is likely because I do not know you well enough in any way, or in a worst case scenario, simply forgot. If you felt like you did not get on this list undeservingly, I can whip up something for you, but it is likely that it may not be as big or coherent, and most impo

How to Tell The Signs Like You(not mine)How to Tell The Signs Like You4 months ago in Personal More Like This
Aries: Lots of hugs. They will often challenge you, whether this is challenging your beliefs or trying to prove their worth by winning a game. They get jealous easily and may come off as harsh when they see you flirting with or giving attention to someone else. They will think about you more than they like to admit. They will want to be updated with what’s going on in your life, and will actually show interest in your routines/interactions with others. There is a good chance these guys will just tell you how they feel.
Taurus: They’ll ask for your opinions on things and will try to hold stimulating conversations with you. All of your quirks and bad habits will become cute to them. They will look at you like you are this special human being who must be protected at all costs. Sometimes they’ll make fun of you, but all good natured. You will consume their thoughts. They will complim

Full blog and details found here: http://dreamorchid78.deviantart.com/journal/Back-with-a-bang-and-CONTEST-303007033
The contest can be from line art to a painting (digital or traditional). You can enter up to three pictures. While you don't have to pick from the list (since they're just suggestions), the drawing must fit a fantasy scenario, person or creature. A hint will be to try to incorporate a scene along with a fantasy character. You can do either evil or good. Also this MUST be original design and artwork (we're avid art fans of fantasy and know a lot of work out there so don't plagiarizer someone). Also we will disqualify any thing that looks exactly like a dark elf from WOW, Lineage II, or any other game. I really would like to see originality in this and I

Well... everybody noticed that dA changed its logo. Now, I won't talk much about the logo, I'll just say (as a graphic designer) that the logo is conceptually totally wrong because its meaning is not strong as it should have been and it reminds me more a logo for a web programmers studio website. The main thing is that it wasn't the needed thing. But the WORST thing is that logo seems to be a blatant copy of the russian train company "Platzkart".
You can see it by yourself
It's nice to see a copy from those people who generally ban those who steal others art!
Fuck logic! ;D
Dear dA staff, you can also ban me for saying what I'm about to say, but doing so you'd build a wall between the staff and the user, showing that you don't care about your users opinions. Why to not take this as a constructive critique and set of ideas?
First at all, what you should have changed was NOT the
Disappointed.I am disappointed right now. So very disappointed. I want to say I'm sorry to anyone I told incorrectly about The 'new' The World Ends With You. Apparently IGN was correct about the iOS release and the "More to Come" Was just the Japanese version for the first game, which is now in stores.Disappointed.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Though, I am NOT giving up hope on the Sequel. If I find out anything due to it, I will let you guys know. I'll keep checking the IGN gamers site to see if they have anymore news on what might be happening with Square.
I'm just hoping that This. . . game. Might come out this year, or hopefully will come out at all.
Well. . . Not much to say here anymore. Timer ended earlier then expected. Disappointment on all ends. Etc. Won't give up hope for the sequel.
Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For YouSince we're on the subject of taboos, I feel it necessary to talk about this one. This one pisses me off and it's very much a cornerstone to a bigger issue with our artistic community: The idea and assumption that as an artist you MUST improve at all times. 24/7. No exceptions. Every work you produce must be 10x better than your last. You must constantly strive for perfection. To ignore this "truth" is to commit the terrible sin of rejecting the very concept of improvement, and you will never break out of your "comfort zone."Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For You2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm here to tell you that this is hogwash.
You should strive to improve. Never say that I don't encourage improvement. It's why you go to school, why you go to college, and why after college you continue to work on your art. You always want to be better. The problem is that far too many people have a strictly binary concept of what "better" is and on how to "improve."
First off, there is no pinnacle of perfection. There is no

Animation techniques and more Ghibli thoughtsIn my last journal I mentioned the strange effect of seeing super cartoony flat characters moving around in a hyper realistic world. There's actually a name for this, it's call the "masking effect" and it was quite elaborately detailed by Scott McCloud in his book "understanding comics."Animation techniques and more Ghibli thoughts4 years ago in Personal More Like This
In comics, frequently the main characters are portrayed as cartoony and simple, while backgrounds often get very detailed. The basic concept is pretty simple. The more cartoony a character is drawn, the more appealing and relatable it is to us as we can more easily imagine ourselves in the role. The more realistic something is, the less of a personal connection you have to it. This is why villains tend to be drawn more realistically, and heros more cartoony. But it goes beyond just the characters... the environment also is affected.
If a person in a cartoon picks up a sword and starts swinging it around, the sword becomes an extension of their body and since it's animated, it becomes a drawn thing whic

Nude November is in full swing. I should have a new pic to post every other day or so. That means new non-nude stuff won't start getting posted until next month. I've had a bunch of commissions that I have been itching to share. So it's time for some sneak peaks! Up above, you'll find some awesome pictures that I will be sharing with the good boys and girls of the community in the not too distant future.
The first 2 commissions of R.Mika and Chun-Li are done by the inimitable zetarok, with colors and backgrounds courtesy of me. They really came out great. You'll have to settle for some low-res versions for now. There's also some pics of Poison and Cammy that he completed which I'll post at some point. He created a

"The lovely scent of cut grass is the reek of plant anguish: When attacked, plants release airborne chemical compounds. Now scientists say plants can use these compounds almost like language, notifying nearby creatures who can "rescue" them from insect attacks."
This is really cool! I love the smell btw.~
