Serif — Roman
In the last two article of the type design series we made a geometric sans serif and added italics and a bold weight. The geometric sans serif is the easiest style to do, but for me personally things really get interesting with serif typefaces. Of course there is the addition of serifs, but the structure and weight distribution is also much more advanced. In this article I will make an introduction to designing serif typefaces. This article won’t be as detailed as the previous ones because this third article serves as an expansion on the first two. In other words, I won’t get into the basic vector tools or type principles, nor will I show you how to design the letters step by step. I will explain techniques in detail when necessary, but generally I will refer to the techniques described in the first article particularly. So if necessary go back to the pre

Elizabeth Siddal 1860 Dante Gabriel Rossetti
Born in 1829 Lizzie was first "discovered" by the artist Walter Deverell in 1849 who had close associations with Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Less than 2 years later, Lizzie was sitting almost exclusively for the jealous Rossetti.
Lizzie's life with the artists of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was turbulent and complicated, much like her relationship with Rossetti who d

FAN ART FRIDAY: Wocka! Wocka!
The Muppets are celebrating their 60th birthday this year!
Jim Henson created the group of puppets back in 1955 for his first TV show, called “Sam and Friends.” Henson said the term Muppet had emerged from a combination of “marionette” and “puppet.” Henson’s wildly imagined collection of characters has been delighting children and adults with their absurd antics and comedic sketches ever since.
When Being Human Just Isn't Enough:icontechgnotic:When Being Human Just Isn't Enough4 years ago in Personal More Like This
The allure of Anthro Art is obvious to anyone who ever “owned” and loved a pet. (Only those who have never loved and shared lives with a pet speak of pet “ownership”!) Once a bond has been formed between a human and an animal the rigid distinctions between what is human and what is animal begin to fracture.
The definition of “being” becomes suddenly far more expansive. And soon the bonded human begins feeling spiritual affinities with the “animal” that are undeniably powerful and as “real” as any felt with other humans. The desire to leave all the lies and hypocrisies of human society behind and join in with a simpler and somehow more “honest” society of different beings in nature can become palpable and intense. “The grass is always greener…” and, oh!, to scamper across it on four liberating paws!

SQUIRRELS: Borderline Dwellers
Squirrels occupy a perilous space at the borders of human society.
They are rodents, cousins of rats, yet we feel no revulsion as they hop toward us to ask for a cracker or crust of bread. They are cute enough to be pets, though we rarely domesticate them. They are the cutest animals that hunters regularly kill for food. They add that extra touch of life to a city park or a suburban backyard that completes a beautiful tab

I drooled over the animation and the story is incredible.

A brief introduction to the Typography galleries that can be found on deviantART.
(All gallery names are linked, so you can click and browse)
I know, the galleries can be pretty confusing! You can submit Typography to both digital and traditional galleries. Of course, this depends on how you created the work. If you scan a piece, it does not automatically make it digital. And if you draw a part of it, but add elements on a computer to it, it is no longer traditional (Technically it would be Mixed Media, but everything with a typographic content is Typography. Mixed Media however, if it implied use of a graphic program to add to the work, is ALWAYS Digital Art.)
Enough of the boring stuff, here are the galleries

New Sta.sh Writer Toolbar
Formatting in Sta.sh Writer just got easier! Check out the brand new Writer toolbar, which includes new functionality such as adding lists, links, and text alignment! Though these formatting styles worked in the previous version of Writer, they could only be used if you manually typed in the HTML or copy and pasted from another application.
Oh, and we have an exciting new feature coming next week!
ZOO Prague - PHOTOSHi!ZOO Prague - PHOTOS4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Do not forget 755 555 Kiriban! It is really close.
I wish I could visit some ZOO, I really miss my photo trips...
But it is -10°C or even -14 °C a day, which is pretty cold for the Czech republic. I know that in your country such temperature might be common, but the Czechs are not used to it. My hands are freezing even with gloves and even two scarves are not enough to protect my face and neck from cold wind. So I do not feel like visiting any ZOO, I do not think it would be possible to stay near wolves and wait for a good photo
But please, keep your fingers crossed for me - on Sunday, I might visit one foreign facility which keeps black wolves!
Finally, there is some show, so I still hope to get some interesting photos.

"Why am I not getting anywhere in my art? What can I do to get better? No one is liking my work, how can I get more people to like my work so they can pay me?"
The real question you should be asking yourselves is:
"Why am I drawing?"
I mean, I take a look all the time at people who may not be skilled or whatever, and I'm sure they don't feel the best about their work (or they may), but they always have something to say that made them feel good while drawing it. Saw a sunset beach picture earlier that someone drew/painted and of course, it's not professional-looking at all. What ringed to me was the fact that in their comments, they said they "enjoyed it and was a relaxing piece". Not complaining about how the sand looks too crappy or the colors in the s
Pokemon is ForeverAn incongruous collection of people lined the sidewalk outside the local video game retailer just before opening on March 6th, 2011. The first in line were a pair of teenage boys in baggy jeans and band shirts, skateboards tucked under their arms. Next was a 9-year-old boy and his mother, followed by a 20-something female with spiky purple hair, a skull and crossbones on her belt. Then there was a young teenage girl, dressed all in yellow, red circles painted on her cheeks and a stuffed Pikachu tied to the handlebars of her scooter. Then a pair of young twins, a boy and a girl, with their mother, and three preorder tickets between them. Two college boys waited impatiently while talking too loudly about their strategy for the upcoming game. There was the 20-something couple, arms tangled about each other, their female friend eyeing the mid-thirties man behind her, who typed a business email on his cellphone. The line continued to grow…Pokemon is Forever11 months ago in Art Features More Like This

First introduced by Marvel in 1963, The Avengers was Jack Kirby and Stan Lee’s superheroic response to the success of DC Comics’ Justice League of America.
In the original comic the founders of the superhero team were Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Ant–Man, and The Wasp who came together to defeat the evil god Loki. The 2012 live–action Avengers movie loosely based on Marvel

If you saw The DaVinci Code or read the Harry Potter books you have stumbled over Anagrams. You use the letters of a word to form a new word; like Tom Marvolo Riddle = I am Lord Voldemort or Army = Mary.
The American Standard Code for Information Interchange. It contains the letters of the english alphabet and is used for encoding. It is also used to create ASCII Art, which you can find at Digital Art > Text Art > ASCI
An Ambigram is a typographical design that when turned for for example 180° reads the same like before. Type is either edited or drawn (Calligraphy) to create the design.
Most letters in words have to be edited to create an anbmigram, but other words like "op

I decided to screen cap my way of going about it. I couldn't find stuff all tutorials about it and the ones I did find were for really old blender which only lead me to being confused. Instead I just went and learned Maya and 3ds Max edge loop tutorials, finally found a few decent speed modelling on anime heads and got a grasp of various ways to model 3D Anime heads and my odd semi-realism anime head. This has been hell and a half trying to apply 3D to my art style >_> Personally I like the box modelling method the best but my heads keep coming out with horse face syndrome at the moment XD Practise though should fix that in time. Anyway... Feel free to pinch/ use the reference images in this journal. If it helps you out then awesome.
When I first started out I would start by drawing in the edge loops on a sketch and it use to really help me but now that I can visualize where they will be I don't need those guides any more or at least not as mu
