Wide-eyedJust looking at my dog today, very old and tired and having trouble getting up the stairs...but still in wide-eyed fascination of what these tall bipedal strange creatures acting around him despite all that, despite all the trouble he's been through...it really gives you a sense of what to value in this life. It's curiosity! It's wondering and dreaming and planning and thinking and plotting and scheming.Wide-eyed2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yet there's no way to tell when a person, or really any animal is doing that, except when they get that look in their eyes and you can see that something is happening inside. It's those features to look for in people to be around with....and simply enough some people don't have it anymore. They might go out and do something random every once in awhile, but they don't really have that same fascination and imagination that they all had when they were children. Thinking of things in the unconventional sense, making mistakes, learning and trying again. It's a push to keep things going on t
Japan trip!! where should I visit?this was kind of a spur of the moment decision but I will be visiting japan with a friend for 5 days in December!! Took me long enough to pay homage the the place that made a lot of things I am into xDJapan trip!! where should I visit?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Except, I really don't know too much about japan when it comes to tourism.
I was wondering if anyone who has been there can recomend places to visit. I am thinking somewhere along the routes like Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka. But my friend also wants to go see the snow monkeys xD
Where in tokyo is awesome? Whats good in kyoto and osaka? what other cities or places would you recomend for a winter trip to japan? are the monkeys worth the detour?
I am pretty excited for this xD I am planning to get the JR rail pass too
but dang, tickets and passes are not cheap at all, I need to start saving up (or work more...NOoooo)
Also on a side note, 112th comic world was pretty awesome. I got to meet some more "english" speakers like :iconAirihn: and :iconpinkystrawberricutie: who w

68th Busan Comic world Artist Alley Con report
First of all... YAY I Finished my First Korean Artist alley experience.
Anyway, Busan is korea's second biggest city after seoul but like 5-6 hour drive away from seoul (where I live).
the artist table cost is similar to canada but the convention was very nicee to offer a special round trip shuttle bus there and back for JUSt artist and helpers from seoul to busan for 1/4th of the price it would have costed.
the staff were soo nice! they carried our luggages from the bus to the con to. granted that almost all artist were girls/ladies. and they gave us snacks and drinks during the trip too. lol. I <3 them!
:icondonmungmung: and I have work till 10pm on fridays and we were suppose to meet up with the bus by 11:30pm to a location about 1 hour away by Public transit. EEE yikes. Nightmares of lugging heavy suitcases and dis

Reading is the opposite of dyingI've recently started reading The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe. I rarely read new releases, mostly because I'm cheap, but also because I have a book list that goes on into eternity. The only queue hopping that happens are new books by my favorite authors, which Schwalbe is not. Well, at least not yet.Reading is the opposite of dying1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The book is a memoir framed by the books Schwalbe and his mother read during the last years (maybe months, I'm not sure, I'm only a chapter in) of her life. It is a rather brilliant way to tell a story, which is what initially drew me in to the book (plus a handful of really glowing reviews). And I'm glad I pushed aside my normal list if only for this paragraph that appears in the very first chapter:
"We all have a lot more to read than we can read and a lot more to do than we can do. Still, one of the things I learned from Mom is this: Reading isn't the opposite of doing; it's the opposite of dying. I will never be able to read my mother's favorite books without thi
The Expert and The ExplorerThere is this strange phenomenon Im seeing as I slog around in the mud learning photography. The Expert and The Explorer1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Two distinct mindsets that you can make out pretty quick when talking to someone about the subject.
Ive made up names for them, because I do weird things like that in my spare time.
I call them The Expert, and the Explorer.
They are both very knowledgeable about whatever craft they have chosen.
They both have experience.
They may even look the same at first....
but they are polar opposites once you get to know them.
When you are trying to learn something new, and put any kind of creativity out into the world, you will run into both of them.
The one sure way you can tell if you are talking to an expert or an explorer is how they make you feel about what you are doing. They can both tell you the exact same thing, but the Expert will leave you feeling inadequate, and the Explorer will leave you feeling empowered.
+The Expert will tell you what you should do, the Explorer will tell you what
test your color acuityHere's something interesting for you, visual artists and curious people - an online test for color acuity in your eyes:test your color acuity1 year ago in Personal More Like This
(please don't take this test TOO seriously and remember that your monitor settings can influence the result)
I remember taking this test a while ago and found it again, after making a little research on color acuity in various eyes in nature. So I decided to share it as well as give it another try. My eyes haven't been well lately as you know - the conjunctivitis is pretty much under control, but yesterday I've learned that I have to wear yet another minimally stronger lenses, now also coming with correction for some astigmatism o_o.... Yay for consequences of aging and not taking good care of myself!
Anyway, as for me, the test result is - just like it was before - a perfect 0 (the lower the score the better color sensitivity).

What's On My BookshelfThe sweet ~CiaranDenoir asked what art-related books I have that I learnt from and still read. What's On My Bookshelf1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It's quite a LOT of books. But consider that I've collected them over the course of the past 10 years. I still re-read them whenever I find time, and learn new things from them.
More than half of my books are in English, because that's where the good stuff is at.
Titles in other languages than English are written in cursive.

Between the Worlds-Story and Characters.Between the Worlds-Story and Characters5 years ago in Personal More Like This
The story is based on Greek myths but in many aspects it doesn't follow the original description since I wanted to customize it to my own needs.
Preparing the following description was really fun for me, especially choosing the voice actors for each character ;]. I really wanted to do such a thing a long time ago.

Stop Peeing on DDsRude comments on DDs aren't always about the actual feature.Stop Peeing on DDs1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
There's no question that the worst thing you can do on a DD is go on and on about how it didn't deserve it, blah blah blah et cetera. The artist had nothing to do with the decision so go to the FAQs and stop being a little bitch. If you can take the time to whine, you can take a little extra to do it properly. :faq873:
I welcome all concerns addressed directly to me. I expect it, rather.
But anyway, this isn't a rant about that. It's a rant about something more insidious: the attitude that DDs are the only thing worth looking at in the whole fucking category.
I'm not directly quoting anyone, but the following is a sample of stuff I've seen. (This is vaguer and a bit nicer than most of it, I'm not that good at being all down with the pointless hating. But the 'I don't read' comments don't give me warm fuzzies either, y'know?)
I don't normally read lit because it bores me, but this was actually dece

Wave 2 of Dash Drives? If you've read my previous journal, you'd know that I'm looking to make some money to pay off some stuff. I've been considering doing a new batch of graphics for Dash Drives, and it was also suggested to me in a comment on my previous journal. If there is enough interest, I am seriously considering revamping the Dash Drive website and adding in a lot of new choices. If you're interested, please show your support in the comments and I am taking suggestions for new characters to add to the selection. Those that get the most suggestions are obviously the ones I will add first.Wave 2 of Dash Drives?1 year ago in Personal More Like This

There are those people, who are always like 'Oh my god.. I hate life, I'm alone, no one loves me, blah blah blah. BAWWWW' It annoys the crap out of me. If they even feel like that even the least, don't you think there are some others who feel worse? You ass wipes are not the most important person in the world. You do not need to tell everyone that you are the most lonely person on the face of the mother fucking earth. An Ode to communication -EN- (FR plus bas)An Ode to communication2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Once will not hurt, I will speak about a serious subject (well ... it is kind of the first time ). First, those who think that art is only a way to feed the mind and does not help to fill the belly of the artist may as well stop reading at the end of this sentence.
And so, this article will talk about commission, or how to start with. Well, as I am about to write a pad, I give directly the summary here:COMMUNICATION! . And now I say welcome to the brave if they want to continue reading .
Preliminary : I am talking about private commission, which means there is no official contract. And...I am not an artist
First, a commission is a contract, a business transaction (for private or public purposes). This must never be forgotten. An artist is paid to do a work. The message that follows is seen from a purely factual point of view, supplier-customer relationship (aargh, but where is the imagination, the art in all of this?
