RIP Leonard NimoySalutations fellow Trekkies,RIP Leonard Nimoy1 month ago in Personal More Like This
Today is a sad event for Trekkies and Trekkers because Leonard Nimoy, who was known for playing our beloved Vulcan Mr.Spock, has passed away this morning at his home at the age of 83 which was caused by end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Besides being known for Spock he also did photography, poetry, music, and directed movies.
In the words of Dr.McCoy concerning Spock's death in Wrath of Khan, ""He's really not dead... as long as we remember him."
May you Rest in Peace Leonard Nimoy
RIP Robin WilliamsThis is very sad news, but Robin Williams has passed on. Truly he will be missed, especially to all of us '90s kids who enjoyed movies like Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, Hook, etc. What a wonderful, funny man.RIP Robin Williams8 months ago in Personal More Like This
In light of this sad event, we shall celebrate Robin Williams' life by changing our weekend livestream movie to Aladdin. ^.^
Lets talk about Mental IllnessHey guys. I wasn't gonna talk about this at all as I usually don't like to be too depressing or heavy with my journal entries, I see my role here on Deviantart as an artist and an escape for some who wants to just have a fun reading my stories and polls or just enjoy looking at some art, so I try to avoid heavier topics like MH 370 or the Gaza war and stuff, Im sure there are already many news about that and my input is probably not neccersary, sure these issues are serious but don't think its my role to talk about it. However, I also think its important to bring awareness to a recent news because it MAY be affecting you directly right now, I am of course talking about the death of Robin Williams, yes like many of you, I was also pretty sad about the loss of Robin Williams, if you don't know who he was then you might be like 'I don't get why anyone is sad about the death of an actor' but trust me Im sure like many people who grew up watching his movies, you feel a certain bond with thiLets talk about Mental Illness8 months ago in Personal More Like This

Disney fans will remember him as Kida's father, Kashekim Nedakh in Atlantis: The Lost Empire, though he's most well known for his role as Spock of course.
He will be missed, but always remembered by his millions of fans.

Leonard Nimoy quotes on Spock/UhuraLeonard Nimoy quotes on Spock/UhuraLeonard Nimoy quotes on Spock/Uhura3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Frankly, I was extremely jealous of his scenes with Zoe Saldana and I think it's totally unfair that I never got to do that. I will never forgive the writers and the director, for having put me in this position, to have to be watching that, rather than participating."
"Beautiful, beautiful. Wonderful" - said Leonard Nimoy, who reprises his role as the older Spock in the movie. - "Both of them played it so well. They were both so available to each other. Very touching, really."
"You know, I'll tell you. I was bemused by it when I read it in the script. I was amazed by it when I saw it on screen. I thought it was incredible. It works brilliantly."

My Progression as an Animator at DisneyA friend of mine is writing a book on animation fundamentals and asked me for a "paragraph or two" (which I can't do) on the subject of timing. I considered it and ended up writing about my progression of learning while a Disney animator in the traditional animation days. It was good therapy for me to really think this through and consider the order of things. I hope you enjoy it. "Like" or "fav" this so others will see it too. My Progression As A Disney Animator
by Tom Bancroft
Walt Disney is quoted as saying that it takes 10 years to make a great animator.
When I was first coming out of California Institute of the Arts and joining a Disney internship in 1988, hearing that quote was devastating. 10 years? That's FOREVER! I wanted to be a full-fledged Disney animator in TWO years! I rationalized that that was a way of thinking from the 40s and today, we move at a quicker pace, so-

New Username SymbolsAs part of our ongoing process to make the user experience cleaner and more intuitive, we've launched a new set of username symbols designed to help easily identify deviant-types.New Username Symbols1 year ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
At a glance, the new symbols are quickly recognizable. When hovering over a username symbol, a tooltip appears, providing a brief explanation of that user's deviant-type. If clicked, a modal appears, giving a brief explanation for each username symbol, with "Learn more" links that lead to more detailed explanations.
A word from Heidi:
Over the years, a few things have come to seem like deviantART mainstays. Deviant green, intricate art categorization, colorful avatars, symbols next to usernames. In our constant re-evaluation of what's best for longtime deviants and new users alike, we do sometimes need to stop and ask ourselves if a makeover for some aspect isn't overdue. Changing username symbols was one of the harder things we evaluated.

Louie Schwartzberg has made it his life’s mission to use his cinematic artistry to raise the alarm for public awareness of the dire situation we are facing in the possible collapse of our taken-for-granted natural resources. The “colony collapse disorder” currently decimating our honeybees was the prompt for Louie’s new movie, Wings of Life, which at it's essence, is a love story that feeds the earth.

As we traverse the final phases of maximum raw information accumulation, potentially equipping us for jacking in to the promise of the Singularity, the contents of many lifetimes’ worth of knowledge, art, education, and history are now at our fingertips. More and more Universities, libraries and arts institutions have swung open their digital doors and granted access to their lectures, courses and curricula free of charge to anyone in the world with a connection to the web. Access to education is fundamentally shifting our society towards an unmappable

A Pop Culture Interpretation of The Supernatural
Every culture around the world created gods and other mythical beings by mixing and matching fanged and taloned animal parts—e.g., enormous eagle heads on lions’ bodies—human beings have always seemed to need to believe there are powerful and usually quite vengeful supernatural beings lurking just beyond the candlelight.
Supernatural beings come to serve several purposes:
They kept people on the lighted path of truth and goodness, fearful of exploring beyond;
They were a reminder of the punishment we deser

Change is not something that we take lightly, because it affects our collective identity. It was important for us to define who we are and what we’re made of at our core before we changed anything. We all have our own understanding of what that means, but the process of getting that core story down on paper took almost a year.
The result is “Bleed and Breed Art.” This is our center of gravity and our reason for getting out of bed in the morning.
It is the guide and the justification for everything, including our business partnerships, the development of the new app and the design of our new ide

Uhura and Spock/Uhura on TumblrIf you've been on tumblr, you know how the #uhura tag and any spock/uhura tag (spuhura, spyota, spockuhura, spock x uhura, etc) tags look like. They are full of negativity. Posts like "I don't get this ship," "Tos Uhura was better" and so on. That is why I think we should have a positive uhura and spock/uhura tag for positive posts only. I got the idea from the CBS Sherlock Holmes show, Elementary. Their tag is #elementasquee. It's free of hate and any hate shown in that tag is quickly ignored. In a perfect world, people would stop using the uhura and spock/uhura tags when they post about hate but that's not going to happen soon. I have a few ideas for tags we can use like #uhuralove, uhurasquee, spyotalove, spyotasquee, spuhuralove, and spuhurasquee. Which ones do you like? Do you have any other tag ideas? What do you think about us doing this?Uhura and Spock/Uhura on Tumblr2 years ago in Personal More Like This
