The Most Awkward Personal Rant =/(Ugh, I debated deleting this whole thing, but I'm not!)The Most Awkward Personal Rant =/3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is partially about writing, partially about silence, partially about discouragement, and probably TMI.
I got thinking today thanks to my lovely American Literature professor who is actually the most horridly cynical human being I've ever met. He makes comments all the time about how we're more or less not smart because we're attending a "community college," how being in class is a waste of our time, how he even hates teaching us. I wrote an essay and got accused of plagarism because there was no way those words and thoughts could've possibly come out of my own head. Ouch. That bugged me because the most reliable thing I've had in my life is my head; my thoughts, my ideas, my intelligence, and writing is the clearest way I've ever found to express everything and anything inside me. It's something I'd grown proud of. And for him to assume and tell me that these ideas/writing were not my own just really invalidated
New! Cubism Messenger Bag Design Challenge!New! Cubism Messenger Bag Design Challenge!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
What comes to mind when you hear the name Pablo Picasso? That’s right, it’s time to break it down, Cubism-style! For the first time ever, we are hosting a Messenger Bag Design Challenge! We want you to create an original design for the flap of the bag in the style of Cubism.
For this challenge, we are defining Cubism as an art style in which instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from multiple viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often, the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create a shallow ambiguous space.
Your design should appear on the flap of the bag (below the zipper), using only <

Just a small note, I'll do this again with my original style when I'm done with my regular commissions
Raffle? Is that the correct word? Anyway, those of you that follow my polls know that I wanted to do something special for my 300k pageviews. And after... I think it was for 150k, when I was giving 3 months of premium, there were like 3 or 4 winners ( and I didn't have enough points ) I will do this with raffle instead (because there will be only one winner, a lot more people will have a chance to win, plus theres this thing with DA now where your pageviews gets counted when someone visits your gallery as well...) .
Sooo, to get a chance to win free commission (this style ONLY: ) all you have to do is fav this journal. You'll have time until I hit 300k on my front page, after that I'll use random.org to pick a winner
GOOD LUCK EVER

Early life becomes an exploration of invisible parameters, circles beyond circles, as one pushes out to test the boundaries of safety. There is one’s bedroom, one’s home, neighborhood, school and town, state and nation. Early on, maps become important documents – declarations of being and rights and privileges. In the art world, throughout history, maps have been a constant measure of human progress, from the Phoenecians recording their trade routes over 2000 years ago, or pre-Columbian times in which map

1) So, you're a Hetalia fan of some sort (or I wouldn't have tagged you), what's your favourite Hetalia AMV/slideshow and why? (Was that two questions? Is that cheating? Maybe it is, what you gonna do about it, huh?)
~~Oh gosh, there are so many that I love, but I think I have one absolute all-time favourite that I always at some point return to watch again. This one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Qi3CI8LFA0 I saw this video before I knew what Hetalia was, and it prompted me to watch the show. I was like "Swords? Guns too? Wait--what? There's so many different time periods and a huge cast of characters and incredible art; what is this amazing thing?!" This video set me up for disappointment at first (I watched the first episode after...), but equally introduced me to a fandom where the fans do so much work to turn it into something intricate and intense and very cool

The Serenely Powerful Art of `yuumei
In the top half of an hourglass, a polar bear and her cub perch perilously atop a wedge of melting ice, its dripping water becoming the "sand" that is inexorably drowning an urban couch potato figure in the hourglass's bottom chamber. The beautiful yet arresting digital painting is "Countdown" by yuumei and it is currently one of the most popular pieces on deviantART. It is "archetypal yuumei" in its perfectly balanced blending of a striking lyrically beautiful visual with an underlying urgent social or political message.
Her specialty is digital art in an anime style, but she often employs traditional watercolors and other elements. Her cause is saving and preserving what's left of the Earth's wildlife and its environment; she donates large portions of profits from her artworks to a host of wildlife and environmental organizations and urges all deviants and others to do the same. But what has really been her stand-out achievem
New shop!Hey guys!New shop!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Just wanted to announce my new shop on Society6!
I only have a few things up right now, but I promise more will be up soon! What I need to know from you guys is: which of my pics you would like to see as prints? Society6 has specific requirements for image size so not everything may be able to be a print but if there is enough demand for a certain one I can resize it as best I can (I save everything as layered PS files so there's still hope!)
But you can get more than just prints! You can get laptop skins, iPhone cases, even throw pillows!!
Since my latest internship ended this week this will go a long way to helping me financially as well as getting my name out there. Any support you guys can give would be greatly appreciated!
Also I wanna take the time to promote my fiancé's :iconcatvomit-inc: $5 Sketch Commissions. He has medication that he must take on

Yes, I'm writing a fanfic, as advised by a lot of my friends.
This story involves N from Pokémon, and my Trainer OC: Shin called "in illo tempore"
The story is set in a various number of different time periods, but "the present time" would be post BW2 in Unova. It's based on N's Background Story, as well as "Pokémon 4Ever".
I just submitted a sort of "pilot" chapter, giving you an idea of the background of it, so if you're interested please feel free to read and comment! I would love to hear what you think!

"I've mentioned this before, however, that was a long time ago when I had less of a following and perhaps less of an impact.
When you tell a fellow artist "Oh I wish I was as good as you!" or say things like "You're so talented I'm just going to stop making art/killmyself/cry", you don't flatter them. At best, you're merely raising them up by putting yourself down and they don't want that. At worst, you are making them very uncomfortable or actively distressing them. Even if you think you're joking, remember that this person probably hears this very frequently. It's a sore point. They may have some kind of emotional response to it beyond irritation.
So, let's go over the basics:
Wow, you've got a lot of skill!
You inspire me to work harder to become as good as you are.
Oh, you're so talented, I wish I was as talented as you!
You're so talented, I give up.
Remember that your words have an effect.
Yes, thank you! W

Pride Flags Colors explained!I'll try to list as many pride colors as I can think of.Pride Flags Colors explained!2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Gay Pride (Rainbow - Gay, Gay Men, Lesbians, and sometimes the entire Queer community. The rainbow represents acceptance of all sexual orientations.)
Labrys Lesbian Pride (Purple with Labrys in inverted black triangle [different versions exist] - Lesbians, women, and feminism, and gynephilic people who identify as female. Labrys became a symbol of lesbians and feminists due to the popularity of a female empowerment publication called Labrys Magazine. In addition, the black triangle is a symbol of lesbians due to the fact that many lesbians were forced to wear it in concentration camps during the Holocaust under the idea that they were "asocial" and did not conform to heteronormativity).
Bisexual Pride (Pink, Purple, and Blue - Bisexuals and sometimes all multisexual/non-monosexual/multiple gender attracted people.)

This is life's second greatest gift to me; the first being my son Ben.
She was born quite ahead of schedule this past Sunday 5th, surprising us all with a 10-day skip from her scheduled birth date this Wednesday 15th. Apparently, she couldn't wait to meet everyone outside
Both she and her mom are doing fantastic and giving dad the broadest smile he's had in years

Isurea is a very lush country with robust natural resources where the Fanalis race is said to originate from. The people that live there, while less advanced than the other countries in terms of technology or buildings, instead have strength of bonds with each other. There are four different clans that the people are part of within Isurea, and each is slightly different from the next. Generally they protect each other and exist in relative harmony. Humans may also come from Isurea, but they are governed by the four Clans as well.

Now taking commissions!!Hey guys! Long time no see!!Now taking commissions!!5 months ago in Personal More Like This
As you may have noticed I recently put up a chart with commission info. This may come off a strange being that I was away for so long but because of...certain events in life I'm in need of some extra income to help pay bills/rent/student loans etc. And (hopefully!) that's where you guys come in!
I currently still have 5 slots open for those interested. You can message me here if you have questions but I'd still like anyone wanting to commission me to do so through my email (email@example.com)
I can only take payments through Paypal, too. Sorry
Also, you will receive a digital file, not a physical item, when finished.
This will greatly help me with bills/rent/etc.! So if this goes well and the 5 slots do fill up, as soon as I'm finished I will definitely re-open them.
The post has prices and some general information on it ( Commission Info
Merry Christmas, from HiroLuke 2 (King James Version)Merry Christmas, from Hiro1 year ago in Personal More Like This
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round upon them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
The most significant experience for me with Christmas is when I learned that the phrase "Peace on Earth, Goodwill toward Men" was not a hallmark phrase, but was ac
Eurovision 2013!At last! I'm so happy that this year's competition finally came, and I really enjoyed watching so much once again and thought this year was really good~ Got to watch with friends for the first time which made it much more lively and I had been keeping tabs on the what was going on leading up the contest for the first time. First and foremost, Congratulations to Denmark~ I think the song was good and from what I could tell Emmelie was a favorite to win, so I wasn't too surprised. But I liked the song as well, so I don't think it's a bad result overall, and no complaints here~
However, from when I first started listening to the songs, up until the final I think I'd have to say my favorites were Ukraine, Russia, Greece, Malta, Switzerland, and Italy. Thus I'm so glad they all ended with solid spots on the left side of the screen. <3 Except Switzerland, who sadly we know didn't make it to the final. v_v Granted, I honestly wasn't sure Greece would make

Basically, it's exactly a month until Megacon now! c: I'm super excited, especially since last year was not a super active year for me conventions wise, especially in the second half of the year. So I'm REALLY looking forward to getting back to the convention scene.
I've two new cosplay I hope to wear there. Technically three I guess, but one is so casual and simple that I hesitate to count it. x: For anyone who saw my cosplay meme, the first three are the ones I'm hoping to be able to wear there~ Alfred in his teddy bear pajamas, Italy in his Fantasia design and then... Disco Pogo Italy. =w=
I've been feeling unusally relaxed for this time of the year, compared to in the past, and I think I realized why. I'm only making ONE major cosplay this year. <3 And it's just for myself and not anyone else, which is

I was hoping to have some new cosplay pictures, of already completed cosplays, by Halloween or at least by the end of the year... but... stuff happened. I may not have anything until the new year, and even then... that might not be until March because that's when my next planned convention is. :c I feel bad for being kind of inactive other than going on favoriting sprees occasionally.
At least I can honestly say that I do have a couple more cosplays planned for next year, one of which I'm hoping will turn out to be something really nice. I'm working very hard on trying to figure out the prop for it! (I've gone through I don't know how many pieces of wood now, trying to make the parts of it.) Won't say what it is just yet, cause it'l
