Why it's so important to unite as artists. We are with many though yet we are with few. We're all divided over little subgroups such as, fantasy illustrators, concept artists, comic book pencilers, photomanipers, techartists, anime drawers, realism sketchers etc. You might even find your place at multiple sections. Why it's so important to unite as artists.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I found that the biggest united groups on Deviant Art are mostly evolved around fan art, such as Sonic, or My little pony.
Observations aside, I think the good thing about those groups is that they serve for companionship. Being an artist all by yourself with no one to share/talk about/discuss your work with can feel rather lonely. And that lonely feeling is not encouraging at all. Most of us keep a lot of things taboo as well, like techniques or rates. If we were more openly with these the changes of being underpaid or missing out on a job because someone else does it for hardly any money at all will grow slimmer. People should know what they are worth and not be afraid to ask for it.

Erotic Art Is Not Pornography...It is time to make some things clear to anyone who has a less-than-dignified view of Proud Warrioress Art and the Contributors and Co-Founders of every group administered by us.Erotic Art Is Not Pornography...5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Erotic art is clearly not pornography. Erotic art does not exist to demean women, or make women feel that their bodies are less than beautiful, or make people go irreversibly insane when they see a pair of titties.
Pornography specifically makes use of actors and actresses to have sex and do other erotic acts for pure profit and a type of entertainment that caters to the lowest view of human sexual behavior. This statement is not meant to imply that every movie and video that is made about nude people engaged in erotocism is pornography. There are productions that hire film crews and actresses to tell a true and genuine story. This is not pornography. This is in fact a form of art.
What is the difference? It is about respect. It is about dignity. It is about the performers or the artists having a true art

passion into your profession. But there is a way of measuring your chances on being
able to get work and eventually sustain a living from it.
Accepting commissions or freelance for low payment won't help you. You can think any penny counts, but it will lower the worth of your work and damage the market.
How to measure that you are ready?
You probably have high goals, but they are usually not your first step. You must search out the clients who can be that first step. Often found in the card game industry, book cover illustrations and smaller game company's.
Look at the artwork shown by a company such as the card game company: Fantasy Flight games. Compare your skills with the average of their artworks. If it matches yours, you will have a chance. However, keep in mind that those artworks had been done in a limited timeframe, usually within 12 hour
JohnSu goes to AX 2013Hey guys, sorry I took so long! This year I'm going to try something a little different and not Flash-dependent. I wasn't really sure how much I was gaining by making the pages squiggly and separated by animated transitions, so without further adieu, here's my report on this year's Anime Expo, now with alt-text! (hover mouse on image for commentary)JohnSu goes to AX 20132 years ago in Personal More Like This
My biggest regret this year was being too busy and not getting around the artist alley more and visiting people and panels. Thanks to everyone who visited, and sorry to everyone who I didn't visit (or visited only very briefly)! I feel really rude in retrospect. I also feel like I didn't really get to see much of what AX had to offer this year by confining myself to my table for most of it.
Next year I hope to have some sort of book-type product at my table, but knowing myself, I will probably either give up or miss deadlines again and you'll see a repeat of the first two images in the report.
MAN, I sure got tired of drawing myself.

and this is what I tell them.
Find out for yourself what you really want to do with art, there are so many different professions.
Graphic designer, Concept artist (mobile and high end), Illustrator of bookcovers, or card games.
Once you can make your pick, or at least pick 1 or 2 you must find the best work on the market in those fields.
Find out what makes the best art of your favorite field the best art. What do they paint? How do they paint it? With knowing this you can find out about the things you need to study.
The most basic study aims are the following:
What forms of light art there? And how does it influence things?
The book Color and Light by James Gurney will give you a lot of insight.
How do you paint shapes? How do you light them the right way?
You will learn a l

So you want to do commissions?A basic guide to setting up commissionsSo you want to do commissions?4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
When it comes to commissioning, there is so much that needs to be decided, arranged and thought of that it can all appear a bit daunting at first.
However: when following a couple of basic guidelines, setting up commissions really is not as hard as you think!
If you find the article informative, please it.
First things first
So you have decided you want to start doing commissions. That's great!
The first thing to do is to determine what you want to offer.
Do you want to offer drawings, or designs?
Will you be coding journal-skins for people, or will you be pixeling?
Take a look through your gallery and try to determine what you do best and what you like to do the most.
Because that will most likely be what you'll be offering.
Stick to what you're good at.
Don't promise what you can't deliver when someone is paying you for it.
Now that you've mo

I just wanted to come on and say a quick yet very sincere thank you to all of you wonderful people that have honored me with watches and comments. When I feel down about a piece, unmotivated, or feel that nasty art block coming, I just come on here and read your wonderful feedback and it helps me push through it. I don't always have the time to comment back right away, but you should know that I read every one of them (some of them MANY times) and that they mean a lot! <3!!
I have been getting a lot of inquiries about my art commission prices. For private commissions you can find a general price list Here. Unfortunately I will not be able to take on any private commissions for the next few months, but feel free to message me and I would be happy to put you on a waiting list. For commercial work please send me a note, or an email to LeLe@LeslieCasilli

The reason for going back to this name is, I used it for so long and I missed it PLUS I got mixed up with another lady a few times who is a fantastic Vendor at Renderosity.
I am not a Vendor, not a maker of things, I am just a Render Girl that loves working with DS, Poser and PS.
So, that is why I am almost Raindroptheelf.
Raindropthelf is ok or is it not. hmmm?

Here are some gathered arguments about commissions. Some of these are mine and others are such I have googled.
20 dollars for a chib is to much:
It clearly depends on details, I do not think you can slap 20 dollars on a simply and clean design.
You are not professional enough to take higher prices.
What a lie, it all have to do with amount of effort and amount of work. I may not draw as some illustrators on Blizzard but that does not mean my art take less effort to make.
People with low income cannot afford 100 - 200 dollars for a sketch:
Well it clearly depends, you can always save up. But let us look at what the money is for.
A sketch, will such sketch be used for future commissions, for design, for a book, for a comic?
If it is just for saving and never to be looked at again... it is kinda like buying a expensive car, taking it for one ride, then putti
