suggesting DD's (daily deviations)Edit on Sept 3, 2013: I changed this article a bit after I had a friendly chat with some of the (former) volunteers and senior members of the website. I hope the details help you in making even better submissionssuggesting DD's (daily deviations)2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Everybody on DeviantArt seems to know about the Daily Deviations, or DD's. The handful of artworks that makes it to the frontpage every day. The artworks that are shown at the bottom of the site all day long, and get loads of exposure. I guess they're the wet dream for many people on DA.
DD's are usually a reason for discussion. I can't even begin to count the topics on the forums that are about why some deviations are chosen over others, and how the quality of those deviations keep declining year after year. Not many people know, however, that's it's not entirely up to the staff which works are picked. And that we can have our own vote on this.
So I can have an influence

dAWishingWell wishes feature (August)Hello!dAWishingWell wishes feature (August)1 month ago in Art Features More Like This
Today I'm having a special feature which is a feature of DD and exposure wishes from my lovely group dAWishingWell .
dAWishingWell is a community-based group on deviantART and only operates on deviantART. Our primary goal is to give a venue where community-oriented and other policy-abiding community members can not only make a wish but have their deviantART-related wishes granted, be featured and recognized for their talents and participation, and for these deviants to have a safe atmosphere to gather and share artistic and charitable interests.
So if you like someones artwork you can suggest them for a Daily Deviation feature (from the DD wishes), or give them more exposure (from Exposure wishes) or comment / critique them (from the last part of journal) ^^
Don't forget to drop a note or comment in the group telling that you fulfilled someone's wish!!

Photography Troubleshooting: FiltersThis week we bring you another issue of Photography Troubleshooting to hopefully give you some tips and explanations behind how to make use of some photography accessories. If you have a question, query or any thoughts you wish to see discussed just drop us a comment or note!Photography Troubleshooting: Filters3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
"The use of filters, how to pick them and examples of situations where they would be helpful...."
Hi moria330, filters are a good way of diversifying your photographic opportunities without spending a great deal of money (though, granted, many of the better quality filters can get to be relatively expensive).
In film photography, filters were used a lot more extensively then they are today thanks to the nature of the medium.
For example colour filters were used for white balance purposes on colour films that were balanced for different light types, so, you could shoot artificial light balanced film under daylight if you had a filter that corrected for it.

Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing BabiesOkay so one of the biggest subjects within portraiture photography are infants and children! Children and in particular newborn babies bring out the photographer in all of us. So whether or not you're looking to go pro and snap babies professionally or whether you just want to brush up on some tips for your own family or friends, this could be the article for you! I always thought that when I got my first baby shoot booked, it would just be a case of snapping them on the carpet or wrapped up in a blanket. I had no idea how creative I could really get - and how simply it would be to do that.Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing Babies3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Until a few weeks ago, I had never photographed a baby in my life, let alone had to pose and arrange one in cute positions with lots of fluffy toys surrounding it. I had also never used a lighting kit before, but that's another story. Anyway, I found it incredibly easy once I knew what i needed, to set up for the shoot and since then I haven't looked back. Whether yo

You MUST be a premium member on dA to use the code.
You must create the image at the size it will appear in the module, these images do not tile, therefore it is best to create a static image with as small a file size as possible so that it does not take too long to load.

PE: 10 tips and tricks not very known about PS10 useful and not very known Photoshop tricksPE: 10 tips and tricks not very known about PS3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
1. Saving your .psd with all layers hidden makes a smaller file compared to saving it with all layers visible.
2. You can use the Crop Tool to quickly increase the canvas size of an image by holding down Ctrl + Alt whilst dragging the Crop Tool outside the current canvas.
3. If you want to see only one of your layers at a time, hold down Alt whilst clicking the eye icon of the layer. (do it again to show all layers again)
4. Holding down Alt while in a dialog box turns the Cancel button into a Reset button, so you can reset the values back to default.
5. If you want to just quickly check a very heavy .psd file, you can hold down Shift + Alt while clicking the Open button. This way Photoshop will open a flattened version of the file.
6. You can change the gray background that surrounds your image with the Paint Bucket Tool, just hold down Shift and make click on the background.
7. Not a very unknown tip, but if y
My deviantART StoryIt has now been over 10 years since I first decided to join deviantART and little did I know then, this decision would end up forging my entire life and career. My deviantART Story1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I wish I remembered exactly how it all started, but I'm going to go with my best guess and say I heard about it from another student when I started college back when I had just turned 18. Up until then I had been using various art forums such as wcreplays.com, animex.com, sijun.com and cgsociety.org so the discovery of a portfolio website was a pretty cool thing.
I started posting on here and got moderate attention, I had been drawing for a long time at that point so my art was in a state where it was at least interesting to look at. If anything it was a fantastic place to get inspiration and look at art from amazingly talented artists.
It wasn't until I decided to color the line-art for the following piece that everything really started.
Username Changes Now AvailableDeviantART has been around for almost twelve years, and in that time, we've seen artists grow from hobbyists to students to professionals. As a member of any community, your identity can change and grow over time.Username Changes Now Available3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
For years, we've been getting requests from the community asking for the ability to change usernames. We realize that as an artist, it's important to give you the ability to change your personal brand, just as you change your interests, skills, and art types.
How It Works
Deviants can now change their username in their Settings. To change your username, you must have an active Premium Membership. (The reason there is a "fee" associated with the change is because switching usernames is a complex technical proce
The Adventures of Squicken... Week OneMy name is Cameron Michael but all my friends call me "Squicken". It's a mixture of "Squid" (what Mommy calls my Dad) and "Chicken" (what Daddy calls my Mommy). I was born last Tuesday the 18th, and have learned SO MUCH that I asked Dad if I could write about it here in his journal. The Adventures of Squicken... Week One3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Dad gave me permission so here goes my first attempt at writing. Don't judge me too harshly because I'm only a week old and I've got my hands full trying to learn stuff. For instance, eyes!!! Wow, eyes are tough to control! It's hard to focus them and move them all around. I can't really see all that well yet but I think I recognize Mom and Dad and I CERTAINLY recognize a fine nipple, which makes Dad proud. Of course, I don't have much experience with other nipples but, I have time to fix that.
I spent a few days in ICU (Mom, Dad, and I called it "jail") at the hospital because Mom ran a fever during birth and the docs said they found some indication of infection in the blood samples they took from me

Celebrate deviantART's 13th Birthday!Celebrate deviantART's 13th Birthday!2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
On the day of your birth, you were likely surrounded by those who loved you, who would lead you through the rough first scary years of life, and who would stand by as you grew into a capable person. As time passed, others may have drifted into your life, and even if you didn't know it, they also nurtured and cared for you in much the same way, helping to shape the person you would become.
When a community like deviantART is born, the same common thread binds its originators and founding members together. Over the years, more and more creative beings drift into its life and strengthen its core every single day, resulting in an exponentially inspirational powerhouse for the sheer fact that they've become a part of it. That nurturing spirit, that inherent support system, that caring community inspires deviantART to grow, and it comes from inside each and every one of you.
