Back Home (Update on my Life)Good morning/afternoon/evening/whatever time of the day it is when you're reading this. Though I should update you on what happened to me after all this time.Back Home (Update on my Life)2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Short story: :/
Long story: Well, as you might know, in December 31st with the help of my friend Vix I moved from Latvia to Norway, in hopes of having a jump-start on my life, starting anew, finding a job and helping my family back home. Things didn't turn out that great.
While I lived there for a while, being with such incredible people really changed me in many ways, and I gained a lot of self-confidence and stuff, and the experience living there was just amazing and I'm forever thankful for that. But I didn't come there to have fun and games, I actually went there to do something with my life, to escape poverty. I was looking for a job, but other people had different ideas...
In a world of globalization, where people move freely from country to country, I guess there are still tons of people left who hate people from different

the adventures of an art student!I don't usually write notes here (I'm not even sure if anyone will see this) but I thought since this is a platform for artists/aspiring artists I guess I can write here because I am sure people here go through the same dilemma. Sometimes I wonder if I am even an artist but of course what makes an artist an artist is subjective...the adventures of an art student!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
As an art student, life indeed is far from a bed of roses, we can't just do "anything we like" (defying the popular misconception), right now I'm so bummed out I keep getting pieces of advice from lecturers that are usually polar opposites. There comes the question "Who should I listen to?" While it may always seem like the rosiest answer to "go with your instinct" maybe sometimes personal instinct isn't always the best because we are often blind to our own mistakes. I know it sounds shallow but at times I feel like I follow certain pieces of advice just so I won't get a bad grade, even if I don't necessarily agree with it. Grades aren't everything but a part
the importance of failingsOften times i see many artists on all levels expressing their expectations from their current progress and seeing it as they fail. They feel this way because the type of level that is set is not only high but its constantly changing to grow higher even as they are progressing passed levels of artistic skills.the importance of failings1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Imagine a horse rider holding a fishing pole with sugar(your artistic level you want to reach) by the end of the string. And you the artist is the horse pursuing it.You are progressing forward but your goal is also being set higher as you progress.
And of course you will never ever reach the level that is constantly changing and i think this is an idea that every eager and striving artist should be comfortable with. To be comfortable with failing. This is not to say that you wont reach new levels , because you will. The levels you set up when you started out are much lower then the levels you set in your current phase.
The tough part is of course to stay on trac

Contours in Context
The argument for the nude in art:
Our visual perception of the human face and then the human body has set the basis since the beginning of
human history for our sense of what is beautiful and what initiates all our seminal ineffable sublime feelings
about the nature of love, life, desire, destiny, eternity, ad infinitum. The curvatures and symmetries of the
human body even lay the geometric basis for the artistic structures of all our art forms, not only for the visual
arts but also for literature and architecture. Given the primacy of the body as the beginning of all that we are
in life, and given the eye as the primary receiver for the collection of all information in our lives, how could
the artistic nude not be a massively represented art form on a global arts forum like deviantART? And besides,
nudes are something peo
Robert Rodriguez Presents Project Green ScreenRobert RodriguezRobert Rodriguez Presents Project Green Screen1 year ago in Official deviantART Contests More Like This
Robert shot an action-packed short film called Two Scoops, starring twins Lola and Lucia who operate an ice cream truck by day and happen to also be monster-slayers. Fans contributed to the project by submitting films, Tweeting their ideas for super-weapons, creating the fiercest monsters, and sending in their photos to appear on Missing Person posters.
We're excited to announce that the collaboration is now complete! You can see the finished film right here, along with the best contributions from fans, and documentary footage to tell the story of the project.

Nuances of an Annual Ritual
Which brings us to each year’s communal celebration of the passing of our lifetimes:
New Year’s Eve
So what did you “actually get done” in the past year? How closer are you to a grand goal in life? An assessment is made and then the inevitable Step 2 of the yearly process is engaged, which is often a word for word repeat of last year’s Step 2:
The New Year’s Resolution
There seem to be two main strategies that emerge at this point of facing the New Year, a “brand new morning.” The lone wolf quietly acknowledges goals not yet reached, and is even more secretive in the “new plan.” “I’ll show them,” becomes the new privat

How beautiful do you have to be to be loved?A photographer like me who portrays beautiful women is sometimes accused of damaging people. Why? Because we raise the bar for everybody to an unhealthy level. We give wrong expectations of how you or a partner worthy of you are supposed to look. We use all the tricks to make the people in the pictures always look perfect and beautiful – how can a normal person keep up with this? How beautiful do you have to be to be loved?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Well, from my point of view the answer is simple, maybe too simple for you: you don't have to keep up with this. In a funny way I face the same problem as you, but from the other side: how can I keep up with you? You have not only your looks, you have your own unique way. You have your personality, your style. You have your way of walking and talking. You can make a real connection with somebody. You can touch them. You can make them feel your caress. You can make their heart pound.
How can I as a photographer keep up with this? I only have a stupid picture, how can I make someone's heart pound?

Believe in Yourself. Nobody Else Will. This last 6 months saw the turn around of all the people in my life (as in everyone) asking me to quit art and focus on something else. I no longer receive constant suggestions of other careers that I should pursue. I'm sure many of you have had awkward conversations with strangers or elderly people about your desire to become an artist. I had one today (she told me art was not a feasible career). Only now my belief in myself is at 100% so that person walked away believing in me as well.Believe in Yourself. Nobody Else Will.6 months ago in Personal More Like This
I could go on about my personal journey and about how butthurt I was that people weren't acknowledging the work that I was doing; the sacrifice that I was making, but most of you can relate as well. I actually developed quite an ego. A feeling that I was better than all of them, and that they were just ignorant assholes. Was that productive? I'm not sure. Would it be productive now that I'm entering galleries and doing shows (schedule coming soon)? FUCK NO!
Ultimately one of the best things I heard as
How To Sell Your Original PaintingsHow To Sell Your Original PaintingsHow To Sell Your Original Paintings7 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
In this article I will be discussing how to sell your original paintings. If your a artist you know how intimidating this can be when you've decided to venture into sales. It may even leave you with doubts about your own work, lower your confidence as a artist, and a bit fearful. Well have no fear! I have some tips from personal experience, as well as online references and advice from fellow artists that will help with your sales.
The First Step
Before we get into 'the meat' of things your very first step is Believe in yourself. Be confident about the accomplishments you've made. If your contemplating selling anything then you have to know you're good at what you do. Let that be your mantra as an artist. Understand that how you've acquired your skills, what you choose to paint, what your art looks like, and how
