I just watched the 1989 film Miracle Mile by Steve De Jarnatt. If you've never heard of him it's because they wouldn't let him make another movie after this one! It starts out like a dull 80s romantic comedy, but that's just to lull the viewer into a false sense of security for what proves to be an epic film experience. It's a totally original film, but to put it in simplest terms, it's like Scorsese's After Hours meets The Day After or Dr.Strangelove. It's a heavy trip about a nobody in LA who picks up a pay phone and mistakenly gets a phonecall about how the missiles have been launched and we all have one hour to live. There's more to it, but that's your nutshell. See it.
