Recently we hired a whole bunch of new staff. Including two lovely new Feature mods.
They have, along with myself, gone through our vast galleries and picked out a small selection of works which we think are a worthy of putting in the spotlight.
They come from a range of categories and digital mediums.
So please take the time to check out these brilliant pieces.

Now here it is,my 2 months of labor! :iconpunch1plz::iconpunch2plz:
Ugh,I went through nowhere for two months, being inactive to devianart, designing robots on the computer 24/7,stuck in my small room building part by part with a tiny curious angel as a companion(lol),working all day and night, but now,I think my effort now finally bear fruits!
AS YOU SEE,I BUILT TWO,KICK-ASS ROBOTS WITHIN 2 MONTHS!!! I even have a background tarpaulin with my logo on it!
Man,I really, really hope I,at least win,in any place! Honestly my family admires me at the same time the're MAD at me! (for being so focused only in work not in the family, plus being a power hog for using the computer all day everyday! )
So I hope my efforts didn't go straight to the garbage!

They're a company out in Garden Grove, CA called SGX Media http://www.facebook.com/pages/SGX-Media/125016037569981 and they pretty much do everything from banners to books, business cards to posters.
The mass of their business is advertising, catalogs, promotional materials, but the owner is an old studio mate of mine who's not only an amazing designer, but also a great artist, a HUGE comic fan ( we met while in the portfolio review line at SDCC 15 years ago). He's currently doing printed material for myself and a large group of my professional comic buddies as well (i'd hate to name drop, but they are all here on dA ). We contribute to about 1% of their business probably, but he pours in the love like it's his only business.

5%If you're reading this now, it means you're roughly in the 5%. Most people who go online to read about comics will end up reading previews and "top 10" lists--subjects we all, or course, enjoy. But the articles/blogs that critically analyze our industry are usually only read by two types: people in the biz whom are affected by this stuff, and the few readers who are interested in reading more than word balloons when it comes to comics.5%3 years ago in Personal More Like This
And I'm not knocking people who don't care to read these articles. All readers are contributing to the industry with their buying power, and I'm thankful for them, even if they're not in the 5%. I admit, if I had a normal 9-5 job and a boss that was kicking my ass 5 days a week, I might not have the tolerance for these sorts of articles either.
That being said, I think we need more of these articles/blogs written from different points of view--more from creators especially. The 2010s will likely be r
Quick Tips: On Referencing AnatomyReference from real life whenever possible.Quick Tips: On Referencing Anatomy3 years ago in Personal More Like This
When you reference or copy from another artist's studies/sketches/art, you may be copying their mistakes as well. Furthermore, an artist's studies are their notes and --just like with history or chemistry notes-- copying someone else's notes will not help you fully understand the material. To completely understand anatomy, you must take your own notes and build your own understanding through observation.
This is probably a no-brainer for many artists but... scruffynerfherder and I were talking about this last night, and with the increase of "anatomy studies" showing up on dA's front page, it's been on my mind. DA's resource category has some great material, but I also feel like there is a lot of misleading information taught by amateurs who really probably shouldn't be teaching things like shading or anatomy, because they have a less-than-stellar grasp on it themselves. I'm not trying to knock anyone here, but it's a bit tr

Send me Sci-fi/Space Art DD SuggestionsPlease help spread the word by adding this Blog to your FavsSend me Sci-fi/Space Art DD Suggestions2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I have just recently received the opportunity to become the "Science Fiction and Space Art" Community Volunteer Gallery Moderator here on deviantART.
I am looking for "Science Fiction and Space Art" deviations to feature as Daily Deviations, and you can help.
If you know of any submissions that you think should gain more exposure and be Featured as a Daily Deviation,
and they are "Science Fiction and/or Space Art"related, send me a DD Suggestion via note.
I have info on my front page regarding how to suggest a DD if you have any questions.
I would prefer suggestions for artists that have less exposure and little to no previous DD's,
but I am not against awarding a Daily Deviation to worthy art from a more well known and decorated artist.
I simply want to try to focus on putting a spotlight on lesser known artists that have amazing art to share, so that their work ma

Last night I finally assembled the mecha fully and activated all the lights for a test run, and EVERYTHING IS WORKING!!!!
So. after 6 months, here is the result of my blood sweat and tears (and money, don't forget money $$) for the championships!!
WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE!!!!! :iconfirerageplz:
The final height is 2 metres 50 cm. It has 26 push lights in them to make up all the eyeballs, and runs on 78 AAA batteries lol.
I don't even know how to express how accomplished I feel right now.
Only 6 days until the flight to Nagoya now. Wish me luck to the finish ))))
Meanwhile, I'm just gonna chill for a bit
Finally, more detailed progress pictures and walkthrough of the making, and general dorkiness can be seen at any of the Facebook pages on top of the journal

so i keep getting the same questions over and over again. how did i learn to do this.
i was self taught. by this i mean, i took the initiative and seeked out the knowledge, as no one was offering it.
i draw on average 8 to 10 hours a day, every day. by average i mean that some days its 6 and some 12
so... the argument.
i keep hearing this one. well i want to be a professional artist, but life is hard, i need to work, i don't really have the time....
let me put things in perspective here.
i used to work as a night guard on the beach. every single night from 8 pm to s6 am. after that i would go meet up with my dad who gouarded another beach to get a cup of coffee. we had a bite to eat, and then both went to haul and sell fruits and vegetables.
every evening i was drawing. when the sun set i sat under a street lamp and drew through the night.
every night. this was on occasion interrupted by a fight with some exceedingly drunk people who wouldn't

As of now, my brain is too fried to write up a proper journal entry about our volcano GARventure, and one of my usual event reports (as you can see on the right side of my journal) about Cosplay Mania, but I'd like to take this chance to share a part of our lecture of sorts at the Cosmania cosplay workshop last Sunday.
China snowpeachdrop, Kat moonlightflight, El rosiael and I were invited to talk about general cosplay planning, like fabric selection, wig styling, cosplay makeup and photography. My friends might post the other parts, but for now here is our silly guide about posing for cosplay photos, and convention etiquette. The actual presentation was actually longer, and with lots more examples, but here is a condensed rundown of what we talked about, fo
It's That Time Once MoreHello all! It's That Time Once More2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Concerning my last journal post, I've been having quite the difficult time on resolution numero dos--that being to doodle at least once per day to sharpen skills and heighten activity on this page. Sadly, it seems that I've lacked, err, "proper" inspiration as I have completely seem to have lost motivation to draw or doodle in the slightest. And anything I currently produce is not up to par with my earlier works.
However, there seems to be more to it.
For those who may not have known, (pertaining to no one at all haha.) you can safely assume that I mainly draw anime. While this certainly is true, I also have a knack into drawing realism and appear to handle it much better than anime. However, I also seem to have a whacky pattern concerning the two...once I feel that I am "sucking" at one of the two styles, it's a red flag indicating that I should focus on the other and thus I draw the other awfully well (In my case) and vice versa.
As odd as that may sound, this is exactly w
Fan Fused Dragon Contest! LAST CALL!!!Fan Fused Dragon Contest! LAST CALL!!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Get your entries in by 6:30 P.M. PST TODAY. So I can host a poll on who should win.
Yep~ Start those pencils! It is time to draw!
Theme: Fan Fused Yugioh Dragons! With a twist! (The twist is that the winner of the contest will become the group's mascot!)
It is a fusion of at least 2 official Yugioh dragons (more than 2 is ok)
The dragons fused can come from any of the Yugioh series (Season 0 to Zexal) (like Blue Eyes White fused with No. 17 Revice Dragon) and can be from the same series (ex. Stardust with Black Rose).
In the devotion or the artist comments tell us which Yugioh dragons you fused to make the "Mascot".
All media is aloud. Full body shots or Ref. sheets are highly wanted but if you can only write, then describe in detail about the "Mascot" so that one of the admins can draw it.
Try to keep it PG. (This is a mascot not a stripper)
Fallows DA's rules.
