Katara had been on the Red Rain for two weeks and things werent getting any better. Her kiss-bruised lips were proof enough that it was only going to get worse. Holding hands, kissing, and hugging were things to be expected, and shed welcomed them. Their relationship had been one thing when they were younger and attraction had been something that was safe.
Sex appeal was way too new and was slowly killing her.
Every time he looked at her, she felt it. In the pit of her stomach, that knowing feeling that told her what she really wanted was him. What made it worse was that she knew he felt it too.

Silvie closed the stall door behind her; she closed it timidly, with an empty expression on her face. Her hand shook. She paused for a moment, her mouth half open, her lip curled upward, and a frown on her forehead.
Then she walked over to the wash basins.
A fly buzzed between her and the mirror. She turned on the faucet, filled her cupped hands with water, and splashed it on her face. She looked at the stall's reflection in the mirror, closed her eyes, and slapped herself.
Let us slow down to take in the sights. At the exact moment Silvie's hand hits her cheek, everyth

Element Entry - DarknessElement Entry - Darkness5 years ago in Settings More Like This
The element that everyone fears above all else, darkness casts a shadow on those with a weak will. Magicians who control this element are usually shunned or feared (but not without good cause, for Demons thrive in this element), but any who can look into the darkness in oneself without being corrupted is one with a heart made pure with courage and complete honesty, for as it was always said, the worse sinner is one averts one's eyes to one's own darkness. It still would be subject to dread, as many of the skills a magician gains from this element are harmful. Darkness can become a veil to hide and protect the caster, but also a terrible weapon that attacks the senses, bodily and otherwise. Some witches and warlocks can even siphon health and magic from living things to replenish oneself, and call dragons and other monsters to one's beck and call. Powerful against the physical elements it corrupts, darkness is nonetheless quelled and calmed in the presence of light.

The rain had stopped sometime that morning, leaving everything reflective and crystal clear. Water crystals sliding down the countless trees at the foot of a grassy hill on the edge of town. At the peak of the hill stood a two story house however; white paneling and green trimming decorating the architecture. A balcony which had two sliding doors which led into the well kept house- but I'll get into that in a minute. Overall, The property felt so tranquil and was just plain gorgeous with the lake further down past the orchard. But as peaceful as it was looking out to the house, Looks can be deceiving.

Is Disney that good of a role model,
In the male heroes that are displayed?
They may seem wholesome on the surface,
Delighting their fans by the decade.
But what lies beneath the exteriors,
Of these pretty boys in shining armor?
Let's take a look at each personality,
And see the truth of each daring charmer.
First is Snow White's charming Prince,
Whose gluttony is his own downfall;
For being the pudgiest prince among them,
His moniker is the "fattest one of all."
This chubby round faced crooner,
Has nothing but to sing songs all day.
As poor Snow slaves over gooseberry pies,
To keep his piggish hunger at bay.
Prince "Charming", as so he is called,
Is perhaps the most slothful on the throne.
Neglecting his duties with tired yawns,
And answering only with a shiftless groan.
He typically lays about like a lazy lump,
Never assuming his royal position.
And after finding the lady of his dreams,
Is too sluggish to even seek her out on his mission.

Feel no loneliness, child,
For my feelings of love and care for you'd never vanish.
Open your eyes, child,
For what's once missed may not be seen again.
For the flower you carry bears my name.
NamelessA nameless creature jammed into a nameless space located in an unknowable location was all that stood between Experiment 726 and what he considered to be the Endless Stream of Creation itself. The creature was large and menacing, but seemingly beautiful to behold. Experiment 726 crinkled his eyelids at the creature that stood before him, frustratingly unable to comprehend all but the most simple adjectives about it. And yet… it was as clear as day and cold as night.Nameless3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Cold. That was something you could call it, 726 mused. It was one of a very limited number of describing words that he could muster about this impossible place, because no matter how much he looked or analysed anything, nothing seemed to make much sense.
“Why come here?” The nameless creature demanded. “And how? No creature such as yourself should even be capable of getting here.”
“I'm just lucky?” 726 tried. “I honestly don’t know.”

Heaven or HellHeaven or Hell5 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
There was a poll posted on Facebook, it was simple, all you had to do was click one answer or the other.
You only had two choices.
The question was: "Where do you think you're headed?"
The answer choices were: Heaven, and Hell.
A lot of people picked Heaven and there were people who voted Hell.
This made me sad to know that these people are condemning themselves.
When you say you're going to Hell, you're accepting something that isn't true!
If God set a Satanist free, If God sent his only son to die for us (even when we did not and still don't deserve it), and If God spoke into the darkness and created the light...
Then NOTHING is impossible for him!
The word impossible is a fallacy that hides the truth: I'm Possible!
Don't condemn yourself.
Doesn't matter what you did, God will still forgive you and let you into his kingdom,
you just have to stop putting yourself down all the time
If God forgave Hitler, Sodom, and Osama, yet they blew it, due to them choosing not to accept him and

Quite often, my husband thrusts a book into my hands saying "Stop reading your fantasy rubbish and read something real."
This little gem is a quick-to-read collection of some "slice-of-life" tales set in the author's native Japan. Although translated from Japanese into English, they read well and are, in my mind, reminiscent of some of the Kafka that I ploughed through when I was younger.
Murakami's protagonists appear mostly as individuals who exist within modern society and yet seem somehow apart from the general flow of things, acting as almost objective observers that don't appear to have any impact on their environment. I feel that they watch the world go past them and, although not unable to act in it, they are unwilling, realising that all actions are, inevitably futile. At least that was the general gist that I picked up from this collection. At once depressing, these tales are, in som
Why Spirit Day Is Not EnoughPrefaceWhy Spirit Day Is Not Enough4 years ago in Editorial More Like This
This essay was written in October of 2010 after DeviantART released this article supporting the Spirit Day movement to bring awareness to LGBT bullying.
I wrote it because there were so many comments on the official article that were defaming to one group or another that I felt the true issue had been lost in the rhetoric. The point of Spirit Day is to show solidarity and compassion for your fellow human beings. Not gay or straight or ill or handicapped - those categories don't matter. We're just humans, each flawed and each perfect. Spirit Day was an attempt to remind us of that.
I was confronted with two major arguments to this editorial in the original posting. One was that singling out LGBT suicides meant that I was putting more importance on that group than any other. For the purpose of the article, I suppose that's true. Spirit Day focused on LGBT issues, so the article (

If you've got a draft of a story or a story in mind, sooner or later you will begin to realize that you might want a certain quality—a certain epic intensity that you've seen and experiences with books and movies that keep you on the edge of your seat with tremulous excitement, and then makes you feel like your mind has been blown after you are finished. But wait! Doesn't Shyamalan try to make his movies epic, and just leave his audience irritated because in doing so he makes his stories seem terribly bloated and self-absorbed? Yes! But YOU can reach epic tension without making your story self-pleasuring and pretentious
