It's always the Artist. What is talent? Many people don't have the slightest clue. They just assume it's what makes your art good. It's always the Artist.4 years ago in Personal More Like This
But what if your art is good (by that I mean above the average) until you are about 10 years old, and then you never draw again?
If you don't execute, practise and put all of your blood, sweat and passion into your Art, you will not get better at it.
"Talent" is not being good at something. Talent is the ability to keep going and to improve.
So why do so many people blame someone's artistic abilities on their art supplies, school education, programs, tablets and "talent"?
I have no clue. All of these amazing artists, even they have started drawing using a pebble on the sidewalk's asphalt. They are awesome because they love what they do, not because they own the newest and most pricy art supplies. Honestly, you should never blame the quality of one's art on the tools they use to create it. I have seen artwork created in MS Paint that was just as great as someone else's work made in
My rat is a genius.I think I've mentioned to a few of you already that I suspect that Anna (this ratty here: http://nyaasu.deviantart.com/art/Pollyanna-257939052 ) may be "smarter than your average rat", and she's been proving me right, time and time again. My rat is a genius.4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I brought her with me to PA this time. I left her with my mom the last few times, and mom told me that while I was gone, Anna became "angry" because I wasn't there. And while I thought she might be kind of nervous about the new house and all, she's the happiest being on this earth right now. Now, it's hard to explain how I know that, because she is a rat, but trust me, if she were human, she'd be having giggle-fits. I'm not sure why she's so happy about this, but that's good!
Anyway, I had her out on this table while I was working on a commission. She was happy as a lark, exploring the new territory, but then after a while she started "bugging" me. And I should have known something was

FireAlpaca is a pretty good free art program.Download it here: http://www.firealpaca.comFireAlpaca is a pretty good free art program.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'll admit that unfortunately no art program is as good, in my "professional" opinion, as the ones you have to pay for (I'd die without Photoshop/Open Canvas), but I am glad to see that free art programs are VASTLY improving.
Might as well download it and see how you like it! I haven't done anything serious with it yet, but I messed around with it a bit. I might try to make a real artwork with it to show off its capabilities some time. xD I definitely like it better than SAI, which costs money, so that's saying something.
Hooray for FireAlpaca!
What is.... I don't!For the passed day, Lemons have been taken down all over dA. They have been reported for Pornography lit and it's quite upsetting for some people. I, myself, do not write lemons, but there are a few good authors on dA that do, and they happen to be some I admire. What is.... I don't!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now, some people would argue that they ARE Pornographic and a lot of people don't like it, but people have placed a warning on them beforehand so you KNOW that there will be sexual content before you even read it.
And I find it odd how, on the front page of dA, there are pictures of half naked woman, but if you WRITE about someone being nude, with just one report, you'll be forced to take it down.
A few people have been saying that dA is slowly going down the flusher, and, I'd like to think not. They're just trying to make it better for everyone.
But still... Whoever is reporting them is a amazingly huge JERK! These people spent so much time writing, and just for one person to report it and then it be forced to be taken down i

A happy roadside rescue SUCCESS story...To clear the air of the sad one I just got out of my system.A happy roadside rescue SUCCESS story3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I remember once I was on my way to work, and I saw a turtle start to make its way across the roadside. He was REALLY TEARIN' IT UP for a turtle. xD I didn't even know they could move that fast. Its chubby turtle feet were flying. But I was already past it! I was trying to think of what to do, should I turn around?
I looked in the rear-view mirror and a truck was coming. D: As I watched, the truck started to turn TOWARDS the turtle, and I'm thinking, oh my god, this jerk is trying to kill it! ...But after angling his truck a bit to make sure no cars could pass, the HUGE, MANLY TRUCK DRIVER hops out of the cabin, runs over to the turtle, grabs it like a football, and tears off across the road into the woods to let it go.
So many people don't even bother to stop for animals on their way to work, but not only did he stop, but he personally escorted it

So I went to GameStop for a Kid Icarus event with Eneko and his boyfriend, and while I was there I bought Doctor Lautrec because they had it used. Then we left and went down the road to Taco Bell. Out in the parking lot someone called to us. It was a GameStop employee. He had my wallet! My stupid ass left it on the counter!
So this dude got in his car and followed us all the way to Taco Bell to return it to me. I was so happy and I felt so good about humanity. And also stupid for forgetting my wallet. xD
BUT YES. HEROES DO EXIST!
Re: 'Style theft'I've actually had these thoughts in my head for a while, but Goku-san also brought it up recently, and I'm getting annoyed about this so you know. Here we go.Re: 'Style theft'3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I understand artists (and fans of these artists) being protective of individual artworks, reporting people who re-post without permission, or try to take credit for them, or who trace them. This makes sense to me.
I also understand artists (and fans) being protective of their original characters, reporting people who use them without permission, or who obviously copy them for their own character. THIS make sense to me.
These things I understand.
But what I don't understand is artists (and their fans) who harass people for "stealing"/imitating a STYLE.
A style is not something you can legally copyright, like you can with a character, or an individual artwork. As long as the subject of the artwork is completely different, the "offending" artist hasn't done anything wrong and i

(Update)3 years ago in Personal More Like This
My hands don't shake, or hurt, they're just...weak, maybe a little numb, even. Like how they would feel if they had fallen asleep, without all the pins and needles. Or when your hands are REALLY cold, so you can't move them accurately enough to handle usual tasks (like, counting money. Things like this take so much longer now, and it frustrates me).
I looked it up online, but all the possible causes involved some sort of pain or inflammation, and I have none of that. Just...weakness. And weakness isn't even a good way to describe it, it's more like...it's hard to move my hands. Especially when it comes to small-scale tasks that require accuracy, like drawing. And I've never made more typos in my life!
Has anyone ever had something like this? And it's both hands, too, although I guess i

"Do you two realize that there is a mouse in the house?"
"Feed us our kibble," they said.
I woke up the dog for a talk.
"There's mouse in the house," I said.

"I spoke to the cats," I said.
"And what did they say?"
"That's not the point."
"What's the point?" asked the dog.
"Where were you last night? You're the guard of the house."
"I don't guard against mice. That's the job of a cat."
"But had you been by the bed," I countered, "a mouse would not have dared jump on my head."
"That depends on the mouse," said the dog. "A bold mouse," he continued, "might think he's a pet."
"I have enough pets," I said. "Two cats and a dog."
"I'm not a pet," said the dog, "I am the best friend that you have, aside from the Boss. Did you ask her why there's a mouse in her house?"

"I encourage everyone to please view this image on my website I use a dark neutral background that makes viewing art much more pleasing to the eye."
This is my only real gripe with deviantART, and one that if they fixed, I feel could significantly improve the look and feel of the site as a whole.
The main reason I post this is because I can't understand for the life of me why deviantART, an ART website, would choose a very awful shade of green to use throughout their website to showcase art. It's my opinion, and the opinion of pretty much any art site you visit (red bubble, 500px, 1x etc) that there should be a neutral background to a website where you are showcasing art. It really should be black or white or anything in between (shades of grey) This weird, gross shade of green just makes everything look worse. It's such a great site, with SO many talented artists, I can't figure out why the

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through dA,
Not a troll was stirring, nor Grinch in his sleigh.
Deviations were hung in digital Galleries with care,
In hopes that +Favourites soon would be there.
The n00bs were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Daily Deviations danced in their heads.
And Fella in his 'kerchief, and spyed with his night-light,
Had just settled down to log-off for the night,
When over in the Forums there arose such a clatter,
Fella sprang back online to see what was the matter.
To the browser window he flew like a flash,
Tore open the tabs and refreshed the cache.
When what to his art-loving eyes should appear,
But an animated sleigh and eight commissioned reindeer,
With a little old driver, so creative and slick,
Fella knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than broadband, his reindeer were famed,
After all his favorite art

You knew that already if you've been reading my stupid, scatterbrained journals about this.
But rumor has it there's more to come, and while I don't usually take stock in rumors, this would make sense. You don't create all this hype just for a remake on a new platform. In fact, I'm including that as potential hype for something to come.
But if you repeat this to anyone, remember to preface it with, "I heard this from some idiot on the internet"
Because that's all I am. xD
Now, while we're on this subject, I've been doing some thinking, and actually...
...listen close here because you won't hear me say this very often...
I'm actually proud of Square for all of this.
Hear me out.
The World Ends with You, or as I fondly and lazily call it, "TWEWY", was obviously more a work of passion than anything else.
Yeah, pit bulls are murderers.Today, I had my rat, Anna, out on my bed. She crawled under the blanket and got all cozy, and I was letting her be while I cleaned the room. Then I got called out of the room and downstairs, and I started talking with my brother and his girlfriend. We got into a conversation, and it was at LEAST 15 minutes before I realized that I had left my WEAK, OLD, PARALYZED RODENT ALONE IN A ROOM WITH A CAT AND A FULL SIZE PIT BULL PUPPY.Yeah, pit bulls are murderers.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I ran up the stairs, already knowing I was going to see something that would scar me for life. Yet again knowing it was over for Anna, and that this time it was going to be a disturbing sight.
As I ran up the stairs, I saw the dog, and I asked him aloud, 'What did you do?" almost in tears. And he reacted with a look of guilt and a lick of his chops. I felt sick.
I got into the room and slowly looked over the bed. There she was....on her back, gasping for air, but alive. I ran to her, and checked her over for injuries.
She was very wet, but otherwise, intact.

Reasons why you should watch ChuckI was thinking about it today. Really thinking about it. Because Chuck is this incredible show that's ending next week after five whole seasons. It almost got cancelled loads of times because of its lack of viewers, but when the few people who watched the show caught wind of cancellation, they would set out to support the show. MASSIVELY. By buying products advertised in the show like CRAZY. I believe the show was almost cancelled in it's first or second season, but it thrived so much longer thanks to the people who actually sat down and watched it.Reasons why you should watch Chuck3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I think the problem with the show is that if you sat down and watched an episode in the middle of the series without any knowledge of past episodes, there's no way you would enjoy it. I know because I did it before. I was completely lost. You could say that's how it is with any show, but that's not really the case. Most shows these days follow a certain plot line, yes, but cop shows like CSI have a separate story for each epis

- My grandpa, who was in WWII. He's 88 years old and is absolutely unable to slow down due to his wild ADHD. God, he's nuts. He acts like a five year old. He was in radar during the war, probably because they didn't trust him with a gun. lol They called his division "Searchlight" because they didn't want the Germans to know they were using radar or something.
- As usual, all the boys who fought in WWI: one of the stupidest, least-remembered wars ever. Dig up one of my annual Memorial Day posts for more about why we should care more.
- My great-great-grandpa, who was one of the thousands of Confederate soldiers forced to fight for a lifestyle they didn't live. Family tradition has it that he didn't want to go, but the military was going around his town forcing people to enlist. It was like a draft, only their paperwork would say that they volunteered freely. Traditi
