Here's a new design, commissioned from my Etsy shop [link] ... a red wolf mask.

A red wolf is a smallish desert cousin to the northern Timber wolf, almost coyote-like. I based my mask shape on the coyote but did the carving pattern for the markings based on my timber wolf design. The person who commissioned the mask wanted "fur" on the side of the face, like one of my stylized wolf masks, so I did that too.

I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Here's the funny thing; it is a mish-mash of three different existing masks I already make, so I just came up with this by laying different designs atop each other. I don't actually have a pattern for this mask...it's totally one-of-a-kind. Which sucks, because now that I've made it, I want to make more! I guess I'll just have to come up with a pattern/template for this guy.

As ever, this is carved from one piece of 8oz weg-tanned tooling leather. Carved with a ceramic 1/4 angle swivel blade, wet-shaped by hand with no molds or forms, and heat set. I painted it with a combination of Liquitex acrylics and Tandy's acrylic antique stain (black).

Leather goat mask is colored with a mix of leather dyes and paints in a combination of dark brown, tan and black.
This mask is made of hand molded and formed leather. It has a protective topcoat and a pair of coordinating ribbon ties.
Mask is made of high quality leather. I work in light leather that accepts and holds detailed molding and forming. The horns on this mask are made of seperate pieces of leather for added dimension and character. They have been well and thoroughly secured to the face of the mask.

Another blue mask that was finished over the weekend (are my fingers stained and speckled with blue? Oh yes they are...).

Usually I make a "Blue Moon" wolf (you can see one elsewhere in my gallery), but this one is special. No moon, just wolf.

Here is another brand new version of my very popular wolf mask design; Golden Wolf.

Like all my masks, it is made entirely from one piece of 8oz leather; carved and shaped by hand without the use of stamps, molds or forms. It's painted with a combination of acrylic paints and acrylic antiquing stains (in shades of gold over brown, to get a burnished effect). The painting took a lot longer than I thought it would.

This is an experiment...I don't think this will be the final version of the Golden Wolf mask (I might try some design that's more like the Asian flame motif).
