“What i like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”
This week I spied an awesome topic in georgewjohnson's journal and knew instantly that it was what I would talk about for edition twenty eight. "Underground train system bosses are set to ban all photos under new proposals that have angered photographers.." You can read the full article for yourself here but I would love to get some discussion going amongst us all as to whether or not the proposed ban would effect you. I'm personally quite pleased that the latest articles report a U-turn in the proposals so it doesn't look

FAN ART FRIDAY: Heroes In A Half Shell
New York City, chemical ooze, and the delicious smell of pizza can only mean one thing — Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
For being named after Renaissance artist greats, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, had rather humble beginnings. Let’s travel back to 1983 to when Kevin Eastman created the idea for the turtles during a brainstorming session with his friend Peter Laird. Eastm
Saving your corrupt PSD files (and job?)Photoshop file (PSD) Extract/Recovery toolSaving your corrupt PSD files (and job?)8 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Download links for Mac and Windows can be found HERE http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/
This plugin lets you grab image layers from any PSD/PSB file. It's faster than opening the whole PSD in Photoshop, if you just want a layer. Most importantly, it can usually recover image layers from corrupted PSD files that Photoshop won't even open (if Photoshop opens with damage, this plugin recovers a more intact image).
This plugin is opensource (under GPL), free (gratis) though donations are welcome if it saves your day/sanity/job
Advanced users are welcome to contribute improvements for everyone's benefit.
Note: other nice free Photoshop plugins available on the download page, as a bonus
I hope you like this one, and find it helpful ^__^

When his dream of one day being Captain of a naval vessel was taken away from him due to his irreparable poor eyesight, Tomasz Opasinski turned to his most powerful talent in life: he could draw and paint. Still in his native Poland, he enrolled in the School of Advertising, taking courses in computers and publishing.
The Polish Navy’s loss was an incalculable gain for worldwide creative arts lovers, especially fans of movies and the innovative movie poste

The Procrastinator A Day In The Life
Procrastination is the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time, sometimes to the "last minute" before a deadline.

He was an artist you might not know.
But you’ve met his children…
It’s rare that a “new” iconic monster is born and becomes forever identifiable,—— no matter the variations, by generation after generation. So it was when George Romero created the ultimate “zombie” in his Night of the Living Dead in 1968. Zombie Apocalypse fans today may have never heard of George or seen the original “Night,” but the zombies they so love in fare like The Walking Dead owe their existence to Romero’s original vision.

In Toronto & on deviantART
No better living functioning evolving example of the new pattern in the creation, dissemination and education in the visual arts can be found than Imaginism Studios, the online brainchild of artists Bobby Chiu & Kei Acedera. Established in Toronto in 2005, the studio has specialized in pre-production character and concept design for film, TV, gaming, and publishing. As creators of some of the most wildly creative and whimsical images ever presented on deviantART, this artistic couple has built an international fan base independent of their c
How to make a viking dressI used to be a part of one history reenactment group some time ago. Such groups basically reconstruct elements of daily life of people from a selected time period; my group was interested in early Middle Ages, from the 8th to the 11th century, from the Eastern and Northern Europe. Personally, I used to reconstruct a viking woman from today's Sweden areas. Most of you will be shocked, but vikings were not half-naked barbarians with horned helmets. They had no horned helmets. Really. How to make a viking dress3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anyway, my favourite part of reenactment has always been all the suit making. Buing materials, planning, cutting, sewing (hand sewing!), embroidering. Then, wearing. Generally, viking clothes are very easy to make, though I admit that the materials aren't the cheapest, if you want to make it as much accurate historically as you can.
Our goal: a simple dress, no emboirdery. This is actually my first viking dress I've ever made.

How to : Find Art ThievesPlease this journal, so that a lot of people can read it.How to : Find Art Thieves3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I noticed that a lot of people don't know how to search for their photos on the internet, so here is a short tutorial. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about art thieves, but i still think it is important to look out for them.
1. visit Google.com
2. Go to the page of the photo you want to search and click "show image"
3. Copy the Link and paste it into google.
4. This page should open, click "search by image".
5. Now you can browse trough the results.
6. The less results the happier you should be.
EDIT : You can also use websites like : tineye.com and iqdb.com
This was pointed out to me by some people, personally i have no experience with them, but i am sure that they work too.

A New Wind Lifts Storytelling
First imagined as a bedtime tale for his son by Kenneth Grahame in 1908, The Wind in the Willows has remained in the top twenty children’s stories ever since. But things have been getting weird out in the Willows, as the new comic on deviantART, Weirding Willows, will attest to.
Badger, Mole, Ratty and Mr. Toad are back… but they’re joined by Alice, Frankenstein’s Monster, Mowgli, The White Rabbit, Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny as they defend the world from the Wicked Witch of the West, Doctor Moreau, the Mad Hatter, Mister Hyde and the Queen of Hearts (not to mention the flying nightmare monkeys from Wizard of Oz.)

Joss Whedon's Top Ten Writing Tips!I recently made a post and shared an article I found where Joss Whedon shared his top ten writing tips. The first five are here and the full list is on our blog! Great stuff!!!Joss Whedon's Top Ten Writing Tips!3 years ago in Art Features More Like This

Joss Whedon is most famous for creating Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its spin-off Angel and the short-lived but much-loved Firefly series. But the writer and director has also worked unseen as a script doctor on movies ranging from Speed to Toy Story. Here, he shares his tips on the art of screenwriting.
1. FINISH IT
Actually finishing it is what I’m gonna put in as step one. You may laugh at this, but it’s true. I have so many friends who have written two-thirds of a screenplay, and then re-written it for about three years. Fin
Stone's Life Chapter SixteenStone's heart stopped-there he stood in the middle of riverclan camps all the clans eyes on him. Some looked angry that a rogue got into their camp, but some were just confused or surprised by his presence. After a moment of silence, one large black tom leaned into an others ear. "Go get Ashflame, and quick." he whispered just quiet enough so Stone could hear. The tom slowly stood up not taking his eyes away from Stone then ran off towards the warriors den. It was really awkward waiting for the tom to come back because everything seemed to be still and silent. Finally the tom came back, and with his brother. Ashflame just stared at him his orange eyes boring into his. The large black tom cleared his throat, "Ashflame, do you know this cat?" Ashflame opened his mouth but no words came out. "Ashflame? Do you know him?" he asked a little more demanding. "N-no i don't" Ashflame replied then stared hard at his paws. What! All Stone could do is stare at his brother. MLP Resource: Tips + Tricks for Working with MinkyMy Little Pony Plushie StyleMLP Resource: Tips + Tricks for Working with Minky3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
What: Minky is a polyester, microfiber fabric that is extremely soft. It is often used in baby blankets and quilts, but also seems to be the fabric of choice for many plushie makers.
(Please keep an eye out for more helpful journals centered around plushie making! More will be made in the future!)
These tools can help make your experience working with minky much easier...
Rotary Cutter: http://www.beverlys.com/olfa-rotary-cutter-28mm.html You can use this to cut the minky directly around your pattern pieces on a flat surface, instead of trying to pin the pattern and hold up the fabric while cutting with scissors. The smaller the blade size, the better, because they go around tight curves easier.
Walking Foot: These sewing machine accessories are very useful. When sewing, because minky is slippery, the fabric may slide around a bit and get off track, making your plushie (or whatever you're making) not as accu
