"You know, Ms. Keyes, I suggest that you eat as well," he said, wiping a smidgeon of dressing from his lip.
"No thank you," she replied, ignoring her plaintiff stomach. How in the world could she eat when he was evaluating her every move that very instant?
He wiped the navy cloth across his mouth and continued. "Very well. So. Tell me how your assignment is progressing."
Her stomach rolled as she continued to think what might happen if she told him about losing her only inside chance. She couldn't handle being reassigned to another case. No, this was much too personal to let go.
"We have things under control sir. The target is within our grasp. We just need to find the right time-"
"Bahahaha!" Viatonni roared. "Control? What control do you have Ms. Keyes? From what I hear

I watched silently from the treetops on the edge of this strange forest as the little female Ooman pup made her way across a small grassy plane that surrounded her dwelling. A large amount of heat came from the dwelling and I had to firmly grasp the tree to prevent myself from going towards it in an attempt to get warm. A cool breeze drifted by and chilled my already freezing body. I'm going to go have to make a fire and soon before I die from this cold. Just as I was turning to leave, far off yelling caught my attention. I turned around to see both the small Ooman pup and a much larger Ooman. From what I could tell it was a male, he was much larger than me but any male or female from my race would have towered over him by a long shot. It appeared that the older Ooman was giving the little female a good scolding, why he was I could not tell.
In a blink of an eye the larger Ooman back handed the small female sending her tumbling to the ground. Then the Ooman's foot made

My eyes flickered open, but I quickly shut them again as the harsh morning rays beat down on my face. I rolled over desperately trying to escape the harshness on my tender eyes. I shivered as a cold draft made its way through my open window, and swept over me, chilling me to the bone. I sighed, after all it was my favourite thing to do, it soon would be autumn and I would have to pull out the thick blankets.
Slipping out of the sheets I made my way over to my dresser. I stared into the mirror, a tired 10 year old stared back. My brown hair was a mess and kinked out in many directions that one would not think possible, my face was pale and my eyes were a deep shade of amber. If I had lived a normal life may would have thought of me as a very pretty young girl. Though this was something I had never truly known. Picking up my very old and much worn out hair brush, I slowly began to brush the nots from my wavy hair.
Last night hit me like a runaway train. Did all that real

I could hear a far off voice, calling my name in a soft but sweet kind of way. It seemed distant, yet rather close. Over and over it was repeated, occasionally followed by other words that I could not comprehend. Stirring from my warm sleep, I heaved myself up.
The Ooman? Maybe she will play a game with me! A childish excitement filled my body for the first time since that terrible day. It was a feeling that I had not felt for what seemed like forever, and I was glad that it was back. Jumping up, I got ready, making sure not to take any weapons but the two short daggers. When they were safely tucked in my utility belt, I crawled out of the cave.
Peeking over the side of the cliff face I was pleased to find the female, Am'ber, with her back to me. Silently pulling myself up, I began to creep over to her tiny frame. I paused for a moment, trying to figure out how to startle her yet let her know that it was me. Grinning a mischievous smile, I gently but quickly placed my han

They had it all wrong--his Mum, and his Dad, and all the other schoolchildren watching from behind the hedgerows or the top of the monkey bars, hooting and jeering and tossing bits of bark and gravel to distract him. They all thought that the only reason why he played the game was because he fancied her.
That wasn't it at all. Or, well, perhaps it was partially true, but confused pre-pubescent infatuation wasn't enough on its own to make him don her father's old blue dress shirt (which she had cut haphazard holes in with her sharp little craft scissors) and necktie and filch his own father's screwdriver from the tool kit and use up an entire pack of blue markers coloring a cardboard box to her satisfaction. The real reason was much simpler: She was sad, and she was angry, and she didn't care what anyone thought of her. He hadn't been able to understand why a person as beautiful and witty and confident as Amelia could be unhappy. It was wrong, and it was fascinating, and it had b

Predator: Losses storyCh'Lok plodded slowly in the harsh sand of a barren backworld planet. It was detestable, even by yautja standards. In sharp contrast to the sandy deserts on Earth, which we are all familiar with in one way or another, this planet was not scorching and hot. It was frigid. Things often went brittle here from the chill. Even though the sun beat relentlessly on the planet, it was still surprisingly cold, making it a confusing landscape. Yautja hate the cold, just as you or I might loathe taking an icy shower. Worse, his thick skin began to chaff as the tiny bits of sand worked its way into his armor joints. Ordinarily it wouldn't be much of a nuisance. Only a few days would be easy to cope with, on account of his thick skin. But after two weeks on this miserable planet, his skin underneath his armor was beggining to go raw. No matter how many times he wiped the sand from his armor plates, it always crept back in. It was very irritating, even to a fighter who had gone through swamps where tPredator: Losses story5 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
