Don't let anyone belittle you or your work!I've been catching up a lot on dA since I got back and have been a bit surprised by some of the things going on. I've noticed that some of the wonderful artists I love and admire are being pushed aside for some ... interesting works. I won't get into a debate on this, at the end of the day, this is just my opinion. But how can a quick sketch that has been edited in photoshop to add some sparkle, outrank something that someone has put 30+ hours into and is pencil perfection? I don't understand the world anymore. Anyway, I just wanted to say I still appreciate your work and dedication .. for what that's worthDon't let anyone belittle you or your work!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The next thing I want to say, and this is based on observation and on a conversation or two I've been having. Have you ever felt belittled or put down in your art because someone tells you that 'it's not the right way'? I have some issues with this and felt the need to vent a little bit, so I'll list my wafflings below

Why Must I Go On, God?Sometimes...I find myself alone, wondering why I am still alive. It may seem cowardly to know that I do not want to stay here on this wicked earth...that I would rather be in Heaven with my Savior. Why Must I Go On, God?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was born again to fight, to war against the wicked powers in this world, standing at my Savior's side, showing the way to the Son to those lost in the darkness. But sometimes...a lot of the time...I find myself wounded in battle, weary and broken down, and wanting to surrender to that same darkness and let it consume me. The constant battle inside my own soul leaves me begging God to take my life, to let me have some rest, some peace. I ask Him, 'Why must I go on, Lord?'
Then I am reminded by someone I know (and even those I do not know) why I must remain here. Though the battle gets fierce, I have strength in my God, if I run to Him, Who is my shelter. When I cannot fight anymore, Jesus comes to the rescue, dressed for battle, sword bared for combat against the demonic forces that seek my

Wonder Woman Reborn
Supers V Wonder by JoshJ81
The collective fan community sigh of relief that a female director has been chosen to bring the Amazonian Goddess to life on the big screen has been echoing across the web ever since Monday’s announcement that Michelle McClaren had won that coveted crown. Here at DA HQ, we can’t help but imagine what Joss Whedon might have done with the character.
Pray no one involved in the Catwoman movie gets close to it.

I dont like to get involved in politics or online drama, but blatant, unapologetic art theft is a pet peeve of mine.
I dont generally condone sitting around ignoring injustice, but theft happens. It always has, it always will. If you dont want something stolen, dont make it public, or at least dont publicize anything worth stealing. If it does get stolen, report it and move on, right? Since Ive never been a victim of it myself its never been more than a passing irritation when I hear about it happening to someone else. Then DeviantArt comes along and makes me get involved.
Ive seen and read about several cases of DA stupidity, and more than a few of them revolved around their handling of art thieves on their own website. Then I stumble on some posts that have all since been deleted. At first it doesnt look like much more than a butthurt rant, but after doing some digging I found out that the person labeled "Mary" stole someones artwork, then got them banned from Devi

"I've mentioned this before, however, that was a long time ago when I had less of a following and perhaps less of an impact.
When you tell a fellow artist "Oh I wish I was as good as you!" or say things like "You're so talented I'm just going to stop making art/killmyself/cry", you don't flatter them. At best, you're merely raising them up by putting yourself down and they don't want that. At worst, you are making them very uncomfortable or actively distressing them. Even if you think you're joking, remember that this person probably hears this very frequently. It's a sore point. They may have some kind of emotional response to it beyond irritation.
So, let's go over the basics:
Wow, you've got a lot of skill!
You inspire me to work harder to become as good as you are.
Oh, you're so talented, I wish I was as talented as you!
You're so talented, I give up.
Remember that your words have an effect.
Yes, thank you! W

Before I found DA, I frequented many art sites that were interesting, but difficult to navigate. When I found DA, even eight years ago, DA was EASY to navigate and an ART focused site.
A visitor could visit different types of gallery's, with different concepts of art. Finding other artists with unique taste in art is possible. IF you are a visitor, TRY the search button, and look for something, you are likely to find it. Unique INDEED.
When I first started posting to my gallery, I started off with simple images that "others" might find interesting.
Then I started posting art I enjoyed. Then I discovered the joy of interaction on DA!
Over the years I found DeviantART to be a great place to meet other creative people, worldwide.
DA is a great place to share artwork, inspiration and even le

I didn't bother with Spotify at first because I figured it had only mainstream music, but it actually has a huge variety. It does have mainstream music, but it also has loads of obscure/indie songs (yes, I'm a hipster. :iconhipstermikeyplz It's an excellent place to discover new music. These are some of its features:
1. You can make playlists with any songs you want and post them on Facebook or Tumblr or share them with a link. You can also search for playlists to find new music.
2. There are several applications you can download that offer more playlists, musician info, etc. (available for free in the program, so you don't have to download them from outside sources.) My favorite is Sifter, which works similar to Pandora: you type in a song and it gives you several similar songs. I've discovered great music that way.
3. You can read biographies of most bands and musicians, and find similar artists.
4. Like I said, it has incredible variety. It

Will Clap at the End of Every Movie Till I DieI swear on my mum's life that from now on, no matter how good or bad the film is, I will clap when no one else does, I will clap when I am the only one in the cinema, I will clap even knowing my friends may want to end the friendship with me, I will clap at the end of every movie I watch till the day I die. Will Clap at the End of Every Movie Till I Die2 years ago in Personal More Like This
After an interesting talk with whitestarflower about her story when people clapped at the end of Harry Potter and how she will only clap when other people clap, I joked that I am gonna clap at the end of every movie till the day I die. But then I thought about this more.. you know what? Why NOT? Lets do this, it might be funny. And if things get too awkward I might just look around pretending it wasn't me who clapped or something. Do you remember this poll http://ry-spirit.deviantart.com/journal/poll/3008931/ ? Only 12% thinks that clapping is stupid, the other people either join

Find your camera and see what iso settings you can push your camera to and still retain descent image quality, this is especially important when shooting auroras, a high iso sensitivity means you can push the shutterspeed under the magical 8 seconds to retain some of the movement of the aurora in the image.
(I personally recommend 6 or less)
Preventing STAR TRAILS
Use the rule of 600 to keep stars in the picture from trailing/streaking.
Divide 600 by the true focal lenght of your lens, true is measured by 35mm full frame, so a 30 mm full frame lens would yield this simple equation: 600/30 = 20 second (or less) exposure and stars will look nice.
For cropped sensors you have to time your focal length with 1.5 for Nikon and 1.6 for Canon.
So 16 mm wide angle lens on a Canon cropped sensor would equal 25.6mm true focal lengt (16*1.6) giving this equation: 600/25.6 = 23.43 secon

Matt and Kim-- Not That Bad
I've wanted to include a Matt and Kim song for a while but couldn't decide on one. This is from their new album "Lightning," and I think it shows how they can alternate between gleeful music to more serious tones (sometimes in the same song.) If you listen to more of their songs-- and you should-- you're in for a treat. They're catchy like pop, but their songs are inventive and unique enough to satisfy pop-haters. Great band.

I've long been interested in the origins of the Bible, specifically the Old Testament, and more specifically the five books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy,) since these were the texts that started it all. I wanted to see what the leading minds in biblical scholarship - not theologians, clergy or apologists, but actual academics - had to say on the subject.
Richard Elliot Friedman, noted biblical scholar and professor, has dedicated this book to that purpose. He takes a look at who wrote the Bible, how many different people/editors there were, when they wrote/edited, and why they wrote or edited in the ways that they did.
Friedman spends the first part of the book as well

I knew her name was Jennifer. I knew that wasn't her real name, but that she had people call her that anyway. I saw her sometimes in choir, or at church, and we would wave at each other and move on. We never really spoke.
I figured that's just how our relationship would be. That's how it was growing up, it would probably be that way until one of us went to college, or moved, or got married. She would always be there at church with her friends, giggling together about something the rest of us didn't know, and waving as I passed by.
And then today I learned she wouldn't.
And then suddenly I realized that I never knew her last name.
Her favorite color.
Her favorite animal.
Her favorite song.
If she had any siblings.
What she liked to do.
Who she was.
We were never really friends, to be honest, not the way she and some of the other kids were- but I did know her, her face, her wave. And suddenly she wa
