there's probably nothing as difficult as creating logo for yourself. I've actually spent months developing a sense-giving concept of my new visual ID, and here's small part of the result: the logo.
the main idea behind it is abstract interpretation of what is most important for me about what I do: the combination of various fields of visual art, their overlay. Three main fields, each having different color in the full-color version, overlay each other and create the central part, which represents what I do. Each part is crest-shaped, which was also important for me - personal/family thing. here's the simpliest explanation: [link]
in short, the logo should look simple, honest, not too glaring (the art I present should be the most visualy dominant part), but catchy enough, and it must work well in various enviroments and applications, side by side with graphic design, fashion designs and architecture. I also wanted something simple enough to allow creating many modifications, just for fun and for sake of creativity
I'm working on new website right now, and also some t-shirt designs based on the concept of the logo, so new stuff comming soon.
art+ is czech fine art online auction room and index. thus, the logo and corporate ID should create sense of reliability, certain classiness, seriousness and tradition, but be fresh at the same time.
i've created 1st sketches of this logotype quite long time ago, and now, about a year later, I was asked to complete it and create basic definitions of the logo and visual identity around it. colour scheme took me most of time since client insisted on magenta/white, but at the end, this is how it looks like.
all done via fontai.
here's the pdf (it has over 6 MB): [link] art+ website: [link]
logotype and logo done for Athleets, new pro PC gaming team.
developement of this type took quite a long time and came up from several ideas and dead ends, too. the main idea was a spring - inspired font, type that would express the latent energy held in a compact, solid whole, waiting to be released. another thing was the motto: evolution of competition (which can be but doesn't have to be part of the logotype), which lead into the DNA double helix / double stripe, as well used on the type. It should create a feeling of computer wires, too. last but not least thing is the principle of two lines which - together and only together - make the type readable. This referes to the fact it's all about team: two or more subjects needs to collaborate closely in order to achieve what they want.
Depicted color scheme isn't the one in actual use since they were left up to client's decision.

comunication and everything was really great this time, if all the clients were like this, world would be a better place
6/3/2010 EDIT: after the logotype being in use for some time, client asked for additional type-free symbol, "shortcut" for the logotype, since it's more convenient for certain aplications. it's also going to work as favicon.
logotype (typography), symbol and universal template (for letters, package designs, website backgrounds etc.) created for Debrace, US based company producing, selling and importing design products.
Main mottos were "Design", "Freedom", "Easy" and "Green".
work on this project was stopped at the moment because client didn't like the results, saying it's not "design-intensive enough", and started searching for someone else to do the job... in 5 days (including today).
well, good luck to them!
comments are welcome, and sorry for the shiny layout, I felt I want to do something like that for change...
the client was Autrio, car-selling / automobile related company, created as a commission for Fontai.
since the customer didn't have any explicit requierements or vision, I decided to go for automobile graphics inspired, abstract geometric shape, with both letter "A" and Three (as auTRIO) in it somehow.
Here's simple explenation of how the shape developed: [link]
Autrio type is custom created, based on geometry of the symbol (60° angles) and the need not to dominate over the symbol visualy. Also, everything was kinda '80ies inspired cos I listened to a lot of '80ies electronic stuff recently
the concept was to create a signature - like logotype, which will go well with the photos. actually I wanted to do real hand-writing based signature logotype, but client refused it and wanted something geometry-based. the additional symbol is done for those application where you need something really small and graphic, and is not meant to be used together with the logotype side by side.

here's another result of project that took me extremely long time to finish.
logo for DVA (client don't wish to publish the full name yet), a "multi-service audio production shop/studio". The client is also a visual developer, so he had high expectations and very specific vision. In short, keywords were Cyber, Organic, Sharp, Professional. Combination of Tech/Sharp and motive of virus, adding organic shape, was what we've been trying to create. The result also contains music note or letter d (DVA) in the negative space.
very simple explication is here: [link] 1st version of the concept: [link]
Before anyone points that out, we Are aware of certain similarity to sixpack logo. I found it out in about middle of the process and had a serious consultation with client. Since the source-idea, field and main aim are different from sixpack, we decided to keep the basic shape (which isn't new or original in any point, anyway). The very original inspiration was from big book of Biochemistry which I studied briefly because of this commission.
zzs is a shortcut for "zdravotnicka zachranna sluzba", wich basically means ambulance.
this was one of my biggest commissions so far, a work for Czech Ministry of Health. I had to come up wih completely new symbol for all ambulances in Czech Republic. it had to have connection to medical care, but at the same time many symbols (as the typical ambulance cross) were banned. It took me quite a lot of time to come up with this concept, but I'm sort of glad about how did it end up.
It's basically a re-interpretation of the typical medical cross, this time, however, created by two lines, roads. The point where they meet symbolize the moment when patient needs rescue and meets the ambulance crew. Like two different lives and principles, usually going in completelly different directions, suddenly meets in moment of crisis. It also has connection to transportation, motion, the background symbol is about communication, phone call.
Even though people at Ministry of Health liked it, the situation is that the current Czech government is down, and new one will be not sooner than at Fall. This new logo had to be part of new national law about medical rescue service of Czech Republic (ambulances), but since the government is prematurely ending, nobody knows what will happen with this now. There is a chance that the new government will continue in preparations of the new law, but nobody can say that for sure, they may end it as well...
So, for now, here's what I did as a proposal for the ministry, several color versions (more is here: [link] )... there would be much more if it would work out, but for now, this is all I have.
