Therioshamanism: A Thousand Invisible CordsI'm back in my art studio again, which means it's documentary time! While I do very much love being outdoors (as we established in my last post), and nothing compares to the experience of being out in the wilderness, I do enjoy books and documentaries on various natural and scientific topics. The documentaries are a nice thing to have on while I'm working on artwork; I sometimes revisit old favorites, swapped up with new finds on Netflix and YouTube. I love re-watching the "Walking With" series about various dinosaurs and other prehistoric critters, even in spite of the factual errors here and there. Don't get me wrong, I hate both of our political parties but while the Democrat Party feels it is largely incompetent, it is the Republican Party that just comes off as again and again of being filled with hateful hypocrites. It stands out best when it comes to abortion. In a nutshell.

The anti-gay Christian group Illinois Family Institute, is asking parents to keep their children out of classrooms that are led by any teacher who supports gay-straight alliance, uses LGBT-inclusive texts or learning materials, or supports LGBT students.
Instead of banning books, the group is seeking to challenge teachers. In their document Challenge Teachers, Not Books, they list several suggestions for parents who are "fed up with the subtle and not so subtle messages that activist teachers of a liberal bent work into their classroom teaching through their classroom comments, curricular materials (including textbooks, speakers, films, plays, novels, short stories, and essays), and even their desks and classroom displays."

I really don't get the whole queer-phobia thing--"queer" meaning, for me, the general lesbian/gay/bisexual/pansexual/trans/intersexed/etc. community/communities. Haven't people got anything better to worry about than the fact that some people simply aren't straight? It really seems to come down to that even thinking about non-hetero contact of any sort squicks the hell out of a number of straight people, and so in order to keep from being continually squicked, they try to make non-hetero everything go away. Sometimes they're honest--"Ewwww, it's GROSS!" Or they try to make some claim that it's "unnatural" (even though there's a whole evolutionary explanation for homosexuality, and one of our closest cousins, the bonobo, is happily bisexual). Or they say God hates it (but God doesn't make mistakes).

I'm in the "it's all art" camp myself. Trad taxidermy, soft mounts, headdresses, little pouches made of hide and beads, curio vials, curiosity cabinets, etc.—all these can be someone's expression of aesthetic values, beauty, and the like. I'm not going to sit around and say that one medium is inherently better than another just because I have personal preferences. Yes, some artists are better than others, and yes, some don't take criticism as well as other do (but then again some people don't know the fine art of how to offer truly constructive criticism as opposed to blaring their emotions at someone while claiming to be "helpful").
Plus people have a tendency to get all up in each other's business, which is silly IMO. If you have a pelt in your possession and it belongs to you, it's not my place to say what you should or shouldn't do with it. Newbie soft mount artist start

I haven't exactly expressed this, but I've always been interested in voice-acting in general. Gotta say, I had fun partaking in these dubs so far. As you know, Zutara Week WILL be happening this year under new management. The Zutara Week blog was created to feature artwork and to receive input from the fandom. A date has not been decided yet, nor have the themes/prompts been selected.
Which is where you guys come in!
If you have any ideas for the prompts of the week, please send them through the ask feature. And we would also like your input for the best date. A week in July is ideal, but we can be flexible.
Please excuse the lack of appeal in the blogs appearance. It's new but it will be fixed up in time for Zutara Week.
