Live the dream, don't talk about it!Doug TenNapel, independent comics creator, is an inspiration to me in many ways. He has a fun, accessible art style that is dramatic and fresh. His story telling is always askew in the best of ways. I don't think I've read one of his graphic novels without having some smiles and a surprise or two along the way. On top of that, he is outspoken about almost everything in his life. (I think of him as the Rush Limbaugh of comics- oh man, that sounds really bad, but early Rush, not present day Rush, if that helps.) I agree with most things he states on Facebook. BUT- the thing I am most inspired about him is his drive (in the old days we would call that "work ethic"). The guy does NOT give up. Because of that, he single-handedly will put out a new graphic novel a year. While creating a webcomic. While pitching new TV show development ideas in Hollywood. While running a half marathon. While working freelance jobs.Live the dream, don't talk about it!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Expiration DateI love the Team Fortress 2 short movies. They're like little Pixar films......just with violence, blood, dismemberment and a general disregard for health, safety and human life.Expiration Date1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Usually they're quite brief, but the latest to surface is a whole 15 minutes. Positively feature-length!
It's making me want to revisit those TF2 "auxiliary units" I designed a couple of years back.

Workshopping with Rasp: Part 1 of 3Here it is, as promised. Keep in mind that even though I do not have formal training as a writer, these are the things I keep in mind when writing my characters. I have had varying levels of success here at dA and you are free to use my ideas or not. I'm not claiming to know it all, the below is not gospel and it's not guaranteed. How to Create Compelling Characters
I can't speak for everyone but I read for compelling characters. If the characters really move me, the plot can be as thin as it wants; though it's not always easy to have characters carry the whole thing if nothing is happening.
Where do we find compelling characters? In books, of course, but they're obviously not confined to books. Compelling characters in movies are just as important. Unless you're doing improv, plays and movie
PVART - Boost Your Visibility + Win Points!Project Vision Art (PVART), launched in July of 2014, is the first and only service on deviantART that allows deviants to share their artwork, projects, contests, and more with video accompaniment. About six months ago, I started playing with the idea of how to make art more visible to people. When you sell artwork on deviantART, or elsewhere, you hit a wall; you can only share a link and hope that people will look at it and enjoy it. Adding a video allows you to share more about the piece.
Artwork often has a story behind it. Projects can often be better explained verbally than with typed words. And after all, if a picture is worth a thousand words, a short movie must be worth thousands if not millions. Give video a chance to show off your work!

Poster by Alphonse Mucha advertising Sarah Bernhardt's performance of the play Gismonda. Created in two weeks during Christmas of 1894 and published and hung all over Paris on Januray 1st 1895, this was the poster that kick-started Mucha's career by introducing him to the general public and earning him a six year contract working for the illustrious Sarah Bernhardt.
With its tall, narrow format, soft pastel colours, and rich decorative detail Mucha's poster distinguished itself from previous posters of the time and it quickly became a sought after collecter's item, with some people going as far as stealing the posters from where they hung. With this poster Mucha's particular and well-loved style
ProgressArtistic slumps, and slumps in general, are a unpleasant part of life that many of us have had to endure. I think the impact of a slump depends upon how we handle it. As a few of you are aware, I have been in a slump since the 2012 holidays. To help relieve the effect of the slump I finally remembered advice I have given to and received from others:Progress2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Go to a museum/gallery/website and look at other art.
Clean your workspace for art making.
Make random marks, doodles, sketches. Just do. Making art for just the sake of making it can pull one out of a creative slump.
Surround one self with other creative people.
Do not over think art making.
Change your scenery (this could go along with cleaning one's workspace).
Take a journey. You do not have to go far. A journey could take take place near where you live.
I cannot remember all the suggestions so feel free to add to the list.
Though I have been in a slump, it does not mean I can stop work. I have agreed to paint a wolf statue (Howl for UW

deviantArt is home for a great variety of artists, some of whom own a very distinctive style and are instantly recognizable. Today I want to present you one of those artists. At first if you look at Que-ink's gallery you might think you're looking at a photography gallery, with close-ups to some of today's greatest hockey athletes. However if you look closer you'll notice they're actually not photographs but digital paintings. Impressive enough right? Look even closer and you'll discover her paintings are not made with the use of complicated digital software and tools. But I'll let Sylvia explains that herself...
My name is Sylvia and I go by the username Que-ink. For the last 15 years I have been into art while studying realism for 8. I am known for my athletic portraits

America is a 10 year old boy with a thirst for adventure. He's obsessed with aliens and the paranormal and is often seen as a hypocrite when he tells others that he wishes people were smarter and could understand more sophisticated things. (In his case, that would be supernatural and outer space)
America has recently acquired a best friend named Tony. Tony is an alien intent on world domination, but America doesn't realize it because he's too set on busting Germany for being an alien. Tony crash landed during the Roswell Incident.
America has a brother named England (Gaz) who always disproves of his childish antics. He also has another brother named Canada who never shows his face EVER because he has a habit of disappearing. England hates Tony and Tony often tries to eradicate England for getting in way of his world domination plans.

Germany is 118 years old, equivalent to an adolesce

The Dead Places
The Visual Delicacy of Decay
It’s easy to think of art in terms of what is instantly pleasing to the eye, artworks which
evoke a feeling of joy and hopefulness and blissful peacefulness or ecstatic exultation.
This is the consideration of art as something that helps propel us forward through life – to out future great
deeds, our career victories, or dreams of coming big events. But there is a peak to every life. At some point all
people, and all places, and even all ideas have to begin the inevitable decline that is the other balancing half of a lifetime.

How can I draw like you?
This is my point of you on this question.
Once again.. this is just MY opinion, and not everybody will agree with it.. but.. here it is
I'd probably not recommend you try to emulate my style or my way or working.
What I would recommend though is that you try to go outside and sketch, sketch people in the street, people walking, sitting, getting up, taking off their clothes or putting them back on, people hugging, people fighting, people in conversation in a group, people on the bus, swimming, dancing, eating, ( lot's of eating as it is pretty hard to convey exactly the feeling of eating), sleeping, people thinking... If you want to tell stories, most of your images should have people thinking.. that's what is going to make your images come alive.
Use a tablet if you have one, a sharpie, a pastel, a rock dipped in ink..anything that can make a mark.
The tool is cool, but secondary.. first.. you n
Happy ending for a straySo the stray cattle dog named Tasha (see previous 2 journals) went home today just before noon.Happy ending for a stray3 years ago in Personal More Like This
As the owner approached her she was as skittish as ever, but then she began to stare, and came up to the door of the kennel. He opened the kennel and sat down and the dog crawled over and put her head in his lap.
By the time they left she was calmly standing up on him seeking attention, her tail went from tucked to relaxed, and she jumped right into the car as if she had done so only yesterday.
After 2 years of being missing, likely running feral, she remembered him.
A phone call hours later brought more good news.
His wife cried upon seeing the dog, so grateful to have her back.
Their toy poodle, whom Tasha grew up with, at first did not seem to know her but then it's tail began to wag and the little dog got all happy... the poodle remembered her!
Their new dog, a cattle dog mix they rescued long after Tasha went missing, seems to be doing well, not exactly friends but not enemies, which in
