Live the dream, don't talk about it!Doug TenNapel, independent comics creator, is an inspiration to me in many ways. He has a fun, accessible art style that is dramatic and fresh. His story telling is always askew in the best of ways. I don't think I've read one of his graphic novels without having some smiles and a surprise or two along the way. On top of that, he is outspoken about almost everything in his life. (I think of him as the Rush Limbaugh of comics- oh man, that sounds really bad, but early Rush, not present day Rush, if that helps.) I agree with most things he states on Facebook. BUT- the thing I am most inspired about him is his drive (in the old days we would call that "work ethic"). The guy does NOT give up. Because of that, he single-handedly will put out a new graphic novel a year. While creating a webcomic. While pitching new TV show development ideas in Hollywood. While running a half marathon. While working freelance jobs.Live the dream, don't talk about it!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Expiration DateI love the Team Fortress 2 short movies. They're like little Pixar films......just with violence, blood, dismemberment and a general disregard for health, safety and human life.Expiration Date4 months ago in Personal More Like This
Usually they're quite brief, but the latest to surface is a whole 15 minutes. Positively feature-length!
It's making me want to revisit those TF2 "auxiliary units" I designed a couple of years back.

PVART - Boost Your Visibility + Win Points!Project Vision Art (PVART), launched in July of 2014, is the first and only service on deviantART that allows deviants to share their artwork, projects, contests, and more with video accompaniment. The product video is easy to create, can be watched by anyone, and is affordable for all budgets.PVART - Boost Your Visibility + Win Points!4 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
About six months ago, I started playing with the idea of how to make art more visible to people. When you sell artwork on deviantART, or elsewhere, you hit a wall; you can only share a link and hope that people will look at it and enjoy it. Adding a video allows you to share more about the piece.
Artwork often has a story behind it. Projects can often be better explained verbally than with typed words. And after all, if a picture is worth a thousand words, a short movie must be worth thousands if not millions. Give video a chance to show off your work!

Broken ToysI love Team Fortress 2, especially the visual style, so when they started releasing toys of the characters, I had to start a collection.Broken Toys1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I had planned to nab the whole team, but I may reconsider in light of THIS:
What happened? Well, I dared try to bend the thing's knee to put it in a pose where it could stand freely, as I had done with the Pyro figure I bought earlier, and the Heavy. Nary an ounce of pressure was applied and SNAP.
It was intended to bend, I can see that from the exposed hinge, but the thing's made from such cheap plastic, and the hinge's connecting "pin" so thin, that it couldn't take anyone touching it.
Not sure what to do about this. Can't really send it back to the vendor I bought it from as it was in perfect condition on purchase.
Hey, Valve? You out there? Is your console going to be this sturdy?
Wimpiest 'storm' ever.Let's assess the damage England sustained from the dreaded "storm" that hit last night: the rail network has been disrupted (which doesn't take a storm to do. Leaves on the line is usually enough) and a tree fell over.Wimpiest 'storm' ever.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
However will we cope?
I think the British media look at genuinely dangerous parts of the world with envy. It must be boring for them working in the UK. We have no dangerous animals (the newspapers have been trying to cause panic over the False Widow. The least scary spider in the world), you're never more than a few miles from a road, so there is no wilderness to get lost in (you have to be dumb enough to climb a Scottish mountain in mid-winter in order to die in the "wild"), there are no active fault lines to cause major earthquakes or tsunami, you can drink the tap water without worry and our weather doesn't require special preparations to deal with, only causing trouble for people devoid of common sense.
The only thing "dangerous" here are the people.

How can I draw like you?
This is my point of you on this question.
Once again.. this is just MY opinion, and not everybody will agree with it.. but.. here it is
I'd probably not recommend you try to emulate my style or my way or working.
What I would recommend though is that you try to go outside and sketch, sketch people in the street, people walking, sitting, getting up, taking off their clothes or putting them back on, people hugging, people fighting, people in conversation in a group, people on the bus, swimming, dancing, eating, ( lot's of eating as it is pretty hard to convey exactly the feeling of eating), sleeping, people thinking... If you want to tell stories, most of your images should have people thinking.. that's what is going to make your images come alive.
Use a tablet if you have one, a sharpie, a pastel, a rock dipped in ink..anything that can make a mark.
The tool is cool, but secondary.. first.. you n

Raiders of the Lost CartA search is currently underway to debunk/proove true one of Video Game history's great myths: are there really millions of old E.T. Atari game cartridges buried out in the New Mexico desert?Raiders of the Lost Cart1 year ago in Personal More Like This
For the XBox generation: Atari's 1982 game, based (and I use that word very loosely) on the inexplicably popular film about an intergalactic gob of faecal matter with Christmas tree lights for fingers and his quest to call his mates up and ask why the bastards ran off without him, is widely regarded as one of the worst games in the history of the planet. A game so bad that, with so many carts being returned or simply left unsold, it caused the video games industry to nearly sh*t itself into extinction.
Urban legend tells us that Atari loaded the millions of little boxes of Fail onto trucks, shipped them off to the desert and buried them (along with, we assume, a programmer or two), then coated the site with concrete.
One can never be too careful.

I believe that Minecraft is the future of massive multiplayer games, and I'm surprised that none of the big developers/publishers have cottoned onto it yet.
They look at Minecraft and think its success is down to its business model, or to its blocky, retro charm.
It's down to the fact that you get out of it what you put into it.
With a MMORPG, there are pre-scripted quests. With Minecraft, you set the quests yourself or others.
User created content is the key. All you have to do is provide the players with the tools to build.
There are two types of gamer: wall builders and wall breakers.
Wall builders are the ones that spend an age in an RTS game getting their base just right. They play SimCity and act as Dungeon Master during an RPG.
Wall breakers are the type to follow the mission brief. They get set a quest and they follow it. They're the Call of Duty crowd and they're never more happy than when

Most people join deviantart because they have some sort of artistic skill to share with the world, and find other people with similar interests and skills. Same thing happens when you go to college for your specific trade. Everyone you meet there does the same thing you do. Spending a number of years in college and on websites devart and tumblr can leave the impression that all of your peers are just like you. You make a lot of friends with the same talent.
