Favorite Feature New Year Special!I would like to give out a big thanks to all of you reading this, watching me and supporting me in my work. Without you I would probably still be creating, but it wouldn't be as much fun to show it up here on DA as it is today. I love reading your clever and kind comments and I'm feeling so flattered when seeing your favs on a new work! I would also like to say sorry for not being able to answer on everything lately, especially new watchers and favs after I got my first DD in Nov. I got totally overwhelmed with over one thousand messages! So if I would to answer every single message, it would take a while^^ So I say thank you here instead so that you know it means a lot to me, and I hope that you keep sticking around so that I can thank you more personally later^^,
I always try to write down goals for the new year, what I would like to accomplish, and I thought I could share some of them with you, since a lot of them is about my art.

Wishing all our members a very Happy New Year and may 2013 be your most creative year yet.
This group focuses on encouraging artists.
Our membership is still growing steadily and our galleries contain amazing and inspirational art, which is well worth viewing.
The primary focus of this group continues to be digital painting and digital drawing, which should be submitted to the 'Featured 3' folder but as it is almost full, I have opened a new folder 'Featured 4'. This group also accepts and has folders for animation, designs and interfaces, deviantWEAR, pixel art and pixel animation, vector and vexel artworks, comic strips, pages and panels, mature content, mixed media, mixed media - 3D, 3D art, commission information, tutorials and resources and also wallpaper.
I hate manga and anime.Recently, someone told me that she likes Anime and Manga because they are avenues for limitless imagination, and without rules.I hate manga and anime.7 years ago in Personal More Like This
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, because my own experience is utterly opposite: Anime and Manga are quite possibly the least creative, most rule-infested genre of art. I can speak with some authority on this subject because I've lived in Japan (the home of anime and manga) for seven years.
In fact, I OWN some rulebooks about manga and anime, despite avoiding that genre with the same dedication with which a diabetic avoids sugar. I've also watched interviews with manga artists as they discuss the rules of manga/anime, and hung out on a Manga-for-artists website before discovering DeviantArt.
Consider the following rule set, and ask yourself a) is it true? b) what sort of stifling rulebook and lifestyle forced these artists to stay well within the rules, only trying to break away from the pack by taking the rules of cuteness, sexiness, violence, and good-v
Gentle SnowfallAll right. Awesome story time.Gentle Snowfall2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's been incredibly windy for the past couple of days (it doesn't ever snow, though ). While I was visiting my old house, I took my dog out for a walk up the hill to do his business. It was nighttime. First off, I nearly tripped and fell over what sounded and felt like a long thin tree branch. I looked back and saw nothing. Continuing onward, the wind was blowing pretty hard. It was brisk and exceptionally cold. I began to talk to Jack, knowing that he was behind all of this (as I usually do when a sudden cold wind blows or something along those lines...yeah, I talk to Jack a lot x3). The moment I uttered, "Jack Frost, it's you there, isn't it?" the wind blew so hard that I almost fell over. My dog perked his ears up, but soon went back to doing his own thing. I continued talking to Jack. Then, out of nowhere, my dog starts staring at something up the hill. He's not one to bark unless he knows it's someone/thing dangerous or threatening. Curious but ex

So I just accidentally uploaded the video.... Here a proper journal about this. Oh god watching this, my voice is strange on video...OH WHO AM I KIDDING it's always been strange...
Click the drawing or click HERE:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeZHFZ5ruIk&featurelcp to be taken to the video!
So I finally posted something on youtube! And it only took me, what? Almost a year? Yeah sounds about right...
But really the video is to help out anyone who has trouble with drawing the titans. It's just the faces, because if I did bodies too, well it would take up 30 minutes (or more) and I'm sure that is going over board.
It's done traditionally because I own a webcam and I should actually start using it. That and I miss using my mechanical pencil.
Also I'm sorry if they might not look exactly right (I'm a critic to myself ok?) it might be my 'style' trying to take over [hahaha].
Very sorry if my method i

Preening FeetPreening Feet2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, apparently Some species of hummingbird (sword-billed hummingbird in the pictures) use their feet for preening since their bills are so long and awkwardly-shaped. That makes me think of how deinonychosaurs might have used their toe claws to preen, almost like a dog. Perhaps therizinosaurs used their hand claws as well? That must've looked funny.

Each day this week, we have something special organized for you to participate in! Check out the schedule of events below to come party with us!

Hey dear watchers!
Long time no new version of XPS i see. But don't worry here's a new one!
This is also a kind of needed update for evryone using the previous versions since they will expire tommorrow...
Expire? What does that mean?
- It means that your version of XPS will not start anymore. You will get a error message on startup.
But i liked my version, why upgrade?
- New features have been added and old ones are still working! I tested the version myself and saw nothing that doesn't work anymore.
Wait, you said 'New Features'?
- Yepp! Here they are:
- > No expiration date anymore. This program will work as long as you want it to!
- > Save as 'old Generic_Item' as an option is now available under 'Modify> Save Generic_Item'. Old Generic Item just means that these exported models will also work in XNALara. This works most of the times but not when
Pay the PayPal FeesHave you seen someone take commissions with the following in their terms: you must pay the PayPal fee (calculate it at a site like http://www.ppcalc.com)?Pay the PayPal Fees3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Every time I run across someone with those terms, I tell them this is against PayPal's terms of service. Some respond 'oh, okay' and remove it, others argue with me and say it's not against their terms. One person has said they will refuse to work on the commission unless I do pay the fees.
I contacted PayPal directly regarding this to get final word on whether this is a violation or not.
Here is my question:
When I am shopping online, I often see people have a rule that if you pay with PayPal, you have to calculate the "paypal fee" and add that on top of the price of the product or service. Some people will refuse to ship or work if they do not receive the "full amount" (without the paypal fee added in).
Is it against the paypal terms of service for these people to do this? What should I tell them
Get Better At Drawing (Without Drawing Anything)Art is a process.Get Better At Drawing (Without Drawing Anything)3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Like that of the scientific method and philosophical alchemy, art can be refined and improved through process. From observation, to experiment, to reflection and conclusion, art is improved by the steps we make towards change, not solidification and stagnation. Much of the advice out there for drawing is simply practice or avoid distractions. This advice is good, but there is more to creation than just throwing yourself mindlessly into a task and avoiding bad habits along the way. Good habits and knowledge will help to excel your learning process faster, and from that, improve faster and more effectively.
Look at it
As an artist, observation is key. The skill we develop is not just seeing, but interpreting what we see, remembering what we have seen and recording it in the form of visual art. This is a skill that, aside from blindness or vision degradation, you will be able to improve during your entire life. The way of seeing from an art

Alice: Madness Returns vs. Sucker PunchAs most of you have probably already guessed from my profile and favourites, I am a huge fan of American McGee's Alice. The demented twist on the original source material, creepy atmosphere, excellent story, everything that I love about horror/fantasy is in this game. Recently, the sequel Alice: Madness Returns was released and I obviously loved it. It kept the same dark under(and over)tones of the first game while also adding something new, the story, while a bit confusing at times, was intriguing and added more depth to the character of Alice, and the quality and graphics VASTLY improved over the years. Naturally, it has its flaws, but what game doesn't have the little annoyances and niches? But one thing's been really erking me and while not a whole majority of people have been talking about it, I still have to talk about it.Alice: Madness Returns vs. Sucker Punch3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Why're people comparing Alice: Madness Returns to Sucker Punch?
Okay, to be fair, Sucker Punch is Zack Synder's latest film title that follows conventionally a

Fun Facts (v.5 Beluga Whales)Can it be?? Fun Facts are back! I will be trying to update this at least every other week, on Sunday nights. This week, I'm re-launching with facts about beluga whales!Fun Facts (v.5 Beluga Whales)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Beluga Whale Facts
1. Also known as “sea canaries,” belugas are one of the most the most vocal of all whales. They exhibit a wide range of vocalizations including clicks, squeaks, whistles, squawks and a bell-like clang.
2. The word beluga comes from the Russian word “bielo” meaning white. However, these white whales are born dark gray. It can take up to eight years before they turn completely white.
3. The beluga is the only species of whale able to swim backwards.
4. The vertebrae in a beluga’s neck is not fused together, giving it the unusual ability to turn its head up, down and side-to-side.
5. The beluga can change the shape of its bulbous forehead, called a “melon”, by blowin
