THE VALLEY OF SIYYON
The Valley of Siyyon is a role-playing based community, built around the idea of hybrid humanoid/non-human animals (centaurs, felitaurs, sirens, etc) interacting in a land of uneasy peace.
The Valley of Siyyon, while a large portion of land, is only a part of the world. It is, or rather, it was.. the planet earth that you know. But that was a very long time ago.
There was a great war in what was know as the year 2140. It lasted many years, and during the war, animals and humans were experimented and tested upon with new forms of bio-weaponry. In the end, there was a nuclear fallout.
Everything was killed.
The earth took much time to heal itself. During this time, climates changed, new geography was formed, and life slowly began to regrow. But, not in the way it had before the w

The Interstellar Marine Strike Force, sometimes shortened to Strike Force Marines. These men endure a hellish set of training similar to present day special forces. The training is more deadly in many cases as their is a 22% casualty rate. The reality however is that 22% of recruits die from the augmentations.
Due to this the United Earth Colonial Federation employes the Space Marine Corps, the soldiers receive minimal augmentations. They are given nano-machine and genetic treatments that allow them to be more effective and efficient. These augmentations are commonly used to make use of food water and air in the most effective way possible. These augmentations are also painless and have never killed a recruit.
Since SMC troops do not endure pain or risk death when being enhanced the Strike Force Marines develop animosity over this fact. IMSF enhancements include grafting Tungsten Carbide fiber to points and joints of a subject. Surg

a Time to be ThankfulWith the over-commercialization of the major holidays over the past few decades, it's becoming increasingly difficult to remember what they signified in the first place. I'll try not to rant about it since I'm clearly not a history buff, but I'm asking you to reconsider what they mean to you. Thanksgiving (in extremely oversimplified inaccurate terms) was from a situation where groups of people had to put aside their racism in order to survive. Yet I repeatedly hear of suicides around this time of year, and considering what our society prioritizes, it's not surprising how much has been lost. Our values and morals have been at a decline (though gradually) for the past century (as far as our country anyway, longer globally), and from what I've gathered, it appears to be eroding our sense of hope.a Time to be Thankful7 months ago in Personal More Like This

Did they fail to recall that they can make it better?
For what reason to they act as if the future can't be changed?

Some News and Random ThoughtsI haven't been on of late as I've been moving, to hopefully better opportunities. Glad to see the snow again, if I wasn't coldblooded I would take a long walk each day through it. I see my membership has run out, don't worry I'll be sticking around, but I won't restore my status just yet. I'm waiting for something first. Where I'm at seems to have much better internet, though it still cuts out inexplicably, but at least lest often than before. I've been able to complete uploading my test recordings, if anyone is interested I'll put up a link to them. If you guys like them I'll make more. Though google and microsoft have gotten rather nosy recently and it's most likely not a good sign of the future. In other news youtube also seems to have gotten even buggier than before; videos don't load, can't post comments despite being logged in, constantly being asked to change username, help page has broken links, the list goes on and on. That's all I got for news, other than that my computer isnSome News and Random Thoughts1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Stick fighting is NOT swordsmanship! A Rant...Okay, I am going to piss some people off into frothing madness with this, largely because of the very cult-like my-sport-can-do-no-wrong dogmatism that lead to this in the first place, but the SCA does NOT make one an expert in medieval swordsmanship. It makes you an expert in smacking someone with a stick or a flashier version of fencing for the light fighters. The SCA is NOT a HEMA (Historical European Martial Art), it is a LARP in self-denial. Ballsier than any LARP out there short of some of the European ones, but by the very definition of a Live Action Roleplaying Game it is a LARP nonetheless. You create a persona, you go out and act in character, you have fictional ranks and titles, etc. It's historically-based, yes, but neither historically accurate nor remotely close to the level of research one finds in actual living history groups (seriously, when a 8th century Viking is duking it out with a basket-hilt stick against a 15thStick fighting is NOT swordsmanship! Empathising and AdvisingThe Myers-Briggs system thing roughly divides people into either 'Thinkers' or 'Feelers'; it's the third letter in the clunky, unmemorable four-letter codes that it assigns to personality types.Empathising and Advising3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm INFJ; the F means that I'm a Feeler. Learning this recently has shed a great deal of light on the way that I approach and react to certain situations!
One of the big differences between Thinkers and Feelers is how they handle 'problems'... Even how they see them.
Feelers, generally speaking, tend to speak openly about their emotions, and to offer empathy and support to others who are doing the same. They "verbally process" information, and need to speak about it to 'get it off their chest'. They are not seeking 'solutions' when they do this, as 'venting' in itself is cathartic.
Thinkers, on the other hand, tend to see problems as puzzles to solve. They speak about their own when they want direct help, suggested solutions, and this is how they respond to others expressing their problems, too
Core ValuesWhat things would you say are most important to you? Specifically conceptual things, 'values', rather than possessions or people...Core Values3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have a strong set of values that drive me, and which make me feel lonely, because I'm reluctant to befriend anyone who has a different set of values (because of what my own values are)... I know I've only myself to blame for being so picky, but I feel stressed and pressured when interacting with people who don't follow these values in the same way that I do, perhaps in a similar way that a strong moral vegetarian might not feel at ease watching their friend eat a steak. Or something.
I was linked to this thing, which is a list of words that could be used to describe certain 'values': http://www.stevepavlina.com/articles/list-of-values.htm
I went through the list eliminating those which I didn't feel anything much for, or which I felt negatively about, so that I'm left with the ones that I consider important to and definitive of me.
Some of them were:
Reality Check . . . Diagnostic 1[Note the last paragraph] When someone is pushed to their limits, they can change. Subtly most of the time, kind of like a bend or tint to their personality. These changes tend to be temporary, although the length of time is indeterminate. It could be related to status quo that had great importance and was altered, restoring it may reverse the change quicker.Reality Check . . . Diagnostic 13 years ago in Personal More Like This
But if they are pushed beyond said limits however, expect much more than a slight alteration to their persona. Some aspects can become exaggerated to worrying levels, or may stop being detectable at all. Or they could shift an idea set entirely, not necessarily reversed though. These kind of changes rarely revert back to the original state, as the cause is mostly impossible to negate, at least from the afflicted's point of view.
The kinds of changes vary insanely, mainly on a per person basis. As each is unique both in personality and situation. But such alterations can be categorized by; tics, mentality. Tics such as a
We have returned [Mk1]Although I would like to leave my past behind me, somebody has to keep bringing it with 'well what if it went like this?'. Family can be the biggest irritation in life, and because of legal issues problems take 5 times longer than they should. However the fastest solutions would be more than ethically dangerous. We have returned [Mk1]3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Okay, with a little ventilation we shall move on to other issues. I should be-able to pick up on the characters next week, and as some have noticed, I'm already back yet still sporadic. The Mk1 is to note for future references when I cannot be here as a daily basis. I'm not mad at anyone here, just irked at how much society has collapsed driving relatives against each other.
And for some reason I cannot gather my thoughts, It could be that I'm getting back to my regular caffeine and that I've missed a night's sleep. I find it interesting how resilient the mind is to stressors but fragile to shocks. An organic combination of glass and rubber; strong yet pliable, britt
Avengers Assemble!Ok.. first thoughts....Avengers Assemble!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I mean.. DAMN! It was hands down the best movie I have seen in a very long time!
Just amazingly epic. Captain America was amazing, Thor kicked ass, Iron man was laugh out loud funny... Black Widow showed she had the chops and Hawkeye was just awe inspiring....
And the Hulk...
Dont even get me started on how ballsbustingly badass the Hulk was.
But the one who stole the movie for me... Loki... Holy hell, that guy just oozed epicness.
And what Hulk did to him is a moment that will go down in geek history.
After credits was amazing, and seeing the next Big Baddy (No spoilers here) just made my geek heart all aflutter!
SO looking forward to more Marvel movies!
Another thing that made this movie so amazing.... is not believing it actually happened... i mean.. in my lifetime.. An actual Avengers Movie! HELL YES!
Whedon is a geek god, and he has my respect.. So in terms of the next Avengers movie, if they get Whedon to do it.. I just gotta say one thing... in
RTINJ #3Some may have noticed that I have no signature, there isn't any real reason for this other than being lazy. I can't decide what I want it to be. These past couple of weeks have been interesting; being a gamer growing up I've gathered various tastes for gaming. I like solo-ing challenges but team work tends to be more fun. When I need to fit a particular role, I am an extremist, I put all my resources into it. If I have an advantage, I exploit it and increase it, even sacrificing other resources to do so.
If I'm a tank, I walk into trouble and it backs off. But I'm slow.
If I'm an idiot, expect me to die frequently. Which is more often then I'd like.
If I'm a dps, I cut down anyone foolish enough to stay near me. But I'm fragile.
If I'm a ninja, nothing can catch me nor run from me. But I'm not a ninja.
On a side note; I've ran i
asl?On my own website, I encourage people to be rather open with at least basic personal information. Age, sex, country, and even the 'temperaments' of their personality are shown on every comment, meaning you can get an idea of the 'sort of person' commenting at a glance without actually knowing them personally...asl?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
But it seems that this is rare, and most sites don't even list gender or age except perhaps on profile pages that you have to manually navigate to, and even then you can never be sure.
Coming to sites like this one after spending much of my time on my own makes me feel almost 'blind' or something, not being able to see that information without visiting profiles. Some people don't even have that information on their profiles.
I personally think that every community would be improved by making this kind of personal information open and clear and displaying it readily and frequently, such as on every comment.
Some might think that that would lead to shallow judgements... and yes, i
Emotional Impacts from Movies and TV.I have two personal favorites...Emotional Impacts from Movies and TV.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The first is from the movie Blade Runner. Roy Batty saving Decker from the roof and his quote.... the music, the staredown, and then Roy stating: "Ive seen things you people wouldnt believe... attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've seen C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser gate... and all these moments... will be lost, in time...like..tears in rain. Time to die."
And then he dies.... it was a moment of pure emotional awesomeness.
My second is from the TV anime series Robotech. Rick Hunter is in his bunk listening to noise coming from his neighbor Max, who had just gotten married to Miriya. She cooked the coffee pot... but as Rick is laying there, he starts to think to himself...
"Roy, you used to tell me, that before you could love someone, you have to like them first... I like Lisa.. I think I.. oh I dont know.. Im so tired... I'll think I'll just....."
And then he was asleep, and the camera pans over to the stars ou
