Worlds collide in the strangest ways, often in the places you least expected them. Lives entwined; similar threads weaving their way inside and out of others until they knot back together at the ends. I would have never thought anything from my past would come back to haunt me, to show me what could have been, what could be me. Never would I have thought to be looking into such like eyes, flinching as my own reflected so clearly in their dull surface. It was baffling to see a complete stranger and to be immediately wounded by their very presence. Her voice echoed pain, her shoulders bore heavy burdens. The girl looked at me through broken eyes in anger, her cries echoing in my head 'lies, lies, lies!'

"Shit, shit, shit!"
It was about the only coherent thing that Joker could sputter out. He had a bad feeling about the Reaper IFF the moment Shepard brought the damned thing on board. But it was a necessary evil that had to be installed in order to finish the mission. Joker just wished that the testing didn't have to coincide with a ground mission. Shepard left with the entire ground team and placed the ship under his command. She left them without any worry that anything could go wrong. But irony and Shepard seemed to go hand-in-hand as of late.
Joker had never felt so scared in his life. Even when the Normandy fell apart around him, he knew he what he was at least attempting to do. But now, he had to rely on an AI he barely trusted to get him through this. Releasing it would either be his salvation or damnation. The fact that he couldn't determine which terrified him. The crew knew of his intentions as he made his way to EDI's

Kendra Shepard watched Kaidan walk away. It has been two years for him, she thought. It feels like months for me. What does this mean for us? The yellowish grass of Horizon waved, flattened in places by booted feet or the blackened bodies of the Collectors. She could hear Garrus and Grunt breathing behind her, could almost sense their hulking presences. And Kaidan dwindled.
He had been a great friend-a great soldier.
But her new soldiers needed to get out of here, back to the safety of the ship.
She keyed the comm on her glowing arm rig. "Joker. Come get us."
The shuttle docked; Shepard and the aliens stepped out onto the echoing corridors of the Normandy. Shepard felt her shoulders relax (Lazarus reactions like the natural ones). No one would shoot at her here-not unless Jack wa

I closed my eyes for a moment, holding the rail of the command deck. My yeoman's eyes examined me, I knew it. A deep breath surged through my lungs, I had never felt so betrayed before. Not by anyone, never ever.
He had yelled at me in front of my squad, telling me that I had betrayed the Alliance and didn't even notify him of being alive. Hell! I had been dead for two years! How could I?! With some telepathic magic hocus pocus stuff?
I let out an aggravated grunt and pushed myself from the rail and walked around the command bridge. I didn't even hear my yeoman Kelly Chambers ask what was wrong with me. He was so d

Shepard, the Master Chief, and Kelly finally fought off the Collectors, who were taking off in their ship. Unfortunately, half the colonists were already gone.
"Half the colony is in there! Do something!" Delan cried
John and Kelly clenched their fists at how ungrateful the civilian was. They never dreamed this day would come, not during their entire time fighting the Covenant armada for 20ish years. This was the first civilian they ever saved to be ungrateful to them!
"I did what I could, I didn't want it to end this way" Shepard said

Shepard crouched behind one wall, glancing out into the adjoining hallway for any sign of enemies. Her knees ached from the constant need for cover, but it was a necessity with the constant barrage of bullets.
Behind her, Garrus and Mordin moved with enough efficiently to make her think she was alone in the deserted hospital. All this trouble for Mordin's former assistant, but she couldn't say no to a life in danger. Besides, Mordin had given so much for the success against the Collector's that she couldn't have said no. He needed this as much as she needed him.
Exhaling sharply in relief, she tentatively shoved away from the wall and began inching along the cool rock walls farther into the destroyed building.

Shepard stormed into the laboratory of the salarian doctor, the sense of urgency overpowering the atmosphere. She slouched over the table using one hand to hold her up and the other firmly pressed against her stomach.
Mordin Solus immediately looked up at his patient, "Commander?"
"Mordin… there's something wrong with me. I've been feeling really unusual lately."
"Explain your symptoms."
"Well, I am constantly feeling nauseated. I've been aching in places I didn't even know could hurt. Not to mention the body temperature fluctuations and the constant light-headedness. All I want to do is sleep and it's making it very difficult to get anything done."
The doctor rubbed his chin, "How long have you been experiencing these ill effects?"

With a faithful leap, Commander Shepard jumped towards the

weapons in a futile attempt to stop the Commander from escaping, hoping to drag
him with them as the silent clock from the detonator inside their core slowly

The time almost seemed to pass in slow motion for the

second would decide if this mission ended in his death or another successful
attempt of cheating death once again.
Shepard reached out with his hands, barely able to grab the
edge of the ship's hull and latching onto it. Holding on with all his strength,
fighting the swaying of the ships motion, a familiar hand reached down. He

Joker stretched out in his chair, his hands for once not flying over the controls. The Normandy was currently docked at the Citadel allowing the crew a short shore leave. Kara had also promised Gardner she would look into picking up more provisions for the crew. The last trip had increased his popularity with the others once he started working with high quality foods instead of military rations, so both he and Shepard wanted to make sure that it continued.
"Gods, fighting through the crowds in the Wards can be such a pain in the ass," Kara griped as she slid an arm around Joker's shoulders.

I always thought it would take a salient, immediate chance of losing Thane to make Shep realise what he meant to her, so here's my take on how it might play out.
The doors to Life Support swished shut behind Aurora Shepard as she scanned the datapad in her hand. 'A small group can do it,' she muttered as she approached the table where former assassin Thane Krios usually sat in meditation. 'Get in and out fast enough, and most of the damn pirates won't even know we've been and gone.'
'So, what do you think?' The commander of the Normandy laid the schematics down on the table. The layout of the Blue Suns' Lorek base was simple, affording the team to opportunity to mount a quick smash and grab, rather than their usual thorough sweep. 'Thane...' Shepard's voice trailed of

She blinked in surprise and lifted a hand. "Hi, Wrex. Something you need?"
Wrex entered her room, striding slowly, powerful muscles twitching under his clothing, crest reflecting the dim of the lights. For once he wasn't wearing his armor, and didn't appear to be carrying any weapons. He looked strangely vulnerable, well, he would have if he was anything but a Krogan. He didn't bother to reply to her question, and paused next to her desk as the doors to her room slid closed with a vacant beep.
There was silence as the two stared at each other. The dark of Shepards room was a relief from the

His normally husky voice grew more vicious as he quickly became frustrated. His Kiss of Choices5 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
And he took the bait. Shepard's smile broadened and she felt her fingers twitch with the adrenaline, "I mean the weather- 'snow'. Is there any other kind of snow?" Snorting her own skepticism, she waved any possible answer away as if Garrus could consider one.
"I understand what the term snow refers to, but I'm more confused by your intentions with it," he responded with mild concern. Ducking his head further into his armor, Garrus unconsciously backed up a step, but Shepard had him in her sights. Uncomfortable, the turian's shifting glances focused on the stars passing out beyond the safety of the ship.

The dull voice of Jacob Taylor grated in Joker's ears. He had just lectured Joker again on how his relationship to the Commander might just be inappropriate.
"I don't care, Jacob. If she was at your neck it wasn't because of me; you probably did something wrong... Might want to ask her about that."
"Are you hearing me, Moreau?" Jacob questioned, visibly annoyed. "She treats you differently; like you're special or something."

Kaidan Alenko's thoughts drifted away into the void, his body falling still at last under the rubble that littered the floor of the Council Chambers on the Citadel. Tali only managed to stay concious a few seconds more than that before joining the lieutenant in the peaceful darkness.
The first thing Kaidan noticed was that the ground had stopped shaking, and that the horrible shattering noises had stopped. Every part of his body ached, and he felt as if he had been trampled by an angry krogan. Then, it all came flooding back.

"Tali!" he said weakly, coughing and sputtering from the ash and smoke. He could hear only crackle of flames and the eerie emptiness that was so unusual for the Citadel, even the Council chambers. Barefoot, Shepard exited the elevator into the darkness of the storage deck. Most of her squad had retired for the evening and she was thankful for it. She could only imagine what they would think of their new commander, scrounging around the cooling vents for smuggled goods.
The Normandy's state of the art drive core produced an unimaginable amount of heat in day to day tasks, and less than state of the art cooling systems were used to keep it in check. Most people considered the temperature difference in the storage bay an annoyance, but Shepard saw it as an opportunity.
She climbed atop the crates that Wrex normally guarded and pulled herself up toward a particularly inconspicuous vent. Pausing to check over her shoulder, she confirmed that she was alone. She produced a utility knife from her back pocket and pried
