Look, at the end of the day, this site provides a service. You can choose to pay for it, or you can choose to not pay for it. It works either way. If you really don't like it, not only should you not pay for it, but don't use it. No one is forcing you to.
It seems like a lot of people seem to think that being a member of this site gives them ownership of it. It doesn't. Be grateful it exists. Be happy that it is (now) profitable. For a long time it wasn't. The people who work on it deserve to make some money - they work hard.
If you don't agree with any of this, I think you're lacking in perspective. There's nothing keeping you here if you don't want to be. I think DA does a great job of listening to a vast community and trying to make changes to please it's members. It can't be incredibly dynamic and flexible to accomodate e
Depthcore XLIII - "TIME"The Depthcore Collective is proud to release it's 43rd themed chapter exhibition, "TIME". As we near our 10th anniversary, this seems to be an appropriate subject for us as a collective to reflect upon. Ten years have passed by, and the students and teenagers who once populated the group are gone, replaced by full time freelance artists, independent small-business owners and focussed creative professionals. Finding the time (oh, the puns are endless with this theme) to create these Chapters has become increasingly difficult.Depthcore XLIII - "TIME"2 years ago in Personal More Like This
And yet, here we are, with one of our largest collections in the past few years. It certainly came together slowly - after the excitement of our presentation at OFFF and our first exhibition here in New York City the come down from the highs of travelling and showing to the reality of starting over to create a

specifically, what happened to Toshiro Masuda? Im sure hes working on other things but..
remember when we were all obsessed with naruto and he was still a kid ninja and the FUCKING MUSIC WAS SO AMAZING on that show that you had to download every naruto soundtrack possible and put it on your shitty old ipod?
There was musical moments on that show that were so epic

Cosplay : You Aren't AloneSometimes, life gets in the way and cosplay ends up on the backburner.Cosplay : You Aren't Alone3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Then along comes an idea or two that REALLY kickstarts the cosplay inspiration once again!
I've been so busy of late that, for the past few months, cosplay just didn't appeal to me at all... until recently. With our Left 4 Dead group coming up, as well as more X-Men costumes for One-Sky-One-Destiny and I to make, my drive for cosplay has taken a HUGE upturn! Hell, Jenn and I were sat in my garden in semi-darkness last night as I spray-painted guns and sanded down chainsaw parts XD
I love it when that drive comes back. I feel like I can do anything. HURR.
I love that feeling. Not once has it bothered me that most of my peers are out drinking while I'm sewing or gaming. When I was a teen, I was... something of a rebel, and was very much the stereotype of my age group in regards to going out and getting wasted at every opportunity. When I got into cosplay and stopped all that, I think it came as something o

The US DVD release has less special features than the Blu-ray. It seems like the UK DVD and Blu-ray releases may be identical. They will have the following features:
The Original Masterwork: Victor Hugo's Les Misérables – mini documentary about Victor Hugo's novel and how it inspired the movie
The Stars Of Les Misérables – director discusses the cast
The West End Connection – a feature with Cameron Mackintosh (only on Blu-ray in the US)
Les Misérables On Location – cast and crew talk about the filming locations (only on Blu-ray in the US)
Creating The Perfect Paris – creating the Paris set
Battle At The Barricade – filming the barricade scenes (only on Blu-ray in the US)

Medium - Tilt-shift effect on Photoshop.Hello, I'm back with tutorials, and for the first time it's about edition on Photoshop. The objective will be making a miniature looking picture (tilt-shift). I'd say the perfect photos for this effect are those taken from heights, like on top of a building or on top of a mountain or something similar. Nevertheless, you can experiment with other kids of pictures and then tell me or show me the results. I'm always interested on knowing more.Medium - Tilt-shift effect on Photoshop.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
For this tutorial, I've chosen an archive photo from Paris, taken on top of the Arc de Triomphe, and showing La Défense in the background:
And after some basic edition on Lightroom 3.4 I get this:
I'll explain now how ot get the tilt-shift edition step by step:
1st - We open the picture on Photoshop, and we turn on the "fast mask" by clicking here:
2nd - With pencils at 2500 and strenght at 0%, we paint the area that we want to look unfocused to make the tilt-shift.
3rd - We turn off the fast mask mode, and deselect and invert the selection:

What do you have to do?
Design us a mascot pony! Yes, it’s really that simple!
For the record, it was HaterzGonnaHatez who came up with the idea- head over to her page and give her some love.
What are the guidelines?
She MUST be a girl! This isn’t Equestria-Boys, after all
She can be any kind of pony, whether unicorn, pegasus or even alicorn!
You can only enter ONCE, so do do your best!
You must provide a clear idea of what she looks like- after all, it’s hard to judge if she can be a good mascot if I can’t see her cutie mark or any other distinctive features!
You don’t have to provide a backstory or character bio, just a picture; of co
Too SoonIn one of my recent comics I casually mentioned the shooting at The Dark Knight Rises premiere in Colorado. The comic wasn't about the shooting, nor was it making light of the shooting. However, some people weren't able to see past that and felt it was offensive and in poor taste.Too Soon2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I am really sorry that my comic offended anyone. It was never meant to trivialize the deaths of the victims of that event, nor was it trying to make fun of them. I was never suggesting or inferring that you should ignore the tragic event, nor trying to be dismissive of the event. I wasn't saying you shouldn't feel empathy, or even sadness over the event. And I especially wasn't trying to paint myself as being uncaring towards the victims.
If you'd like to help the victims through this terrible event, please check out this http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/20/aurora-theater-colorado-shooting_n_1690093.html?utm_hp_ref=impact here. You can help by donating to The Colorado American Red Cross chapters, donate

A Mystical and Magical FeatureContinuing to show my appreciation for the talented deviants here, I took my favorites from my Mystical and Magical collection to compose this illustrious art feature for all to see. The fantasy genre has long been a lucrative outlet for budding artists to show off their imaginative talents. DeviantArt is no exception to this, as the majority of creative artwork here is dedicated to personalized dreams, fantasy worlds, custom made creatures, rogue bards, lone warriors, dragons, Elves, Angels, Demons, Tolkien/Rowling/Martin/etc fanart and every thing in between. I myself have worked around this idiom from time to time, treasuring the power of fantasy in the only ways we know how: Reading, writing and creating our own worlds.A Mystical and Magical Feature5 months ago in Personal More Like This

How I cosplayed the cast of Free! sort-of-tutorialGroup cosplay, forever alone style! Yeah, that's all me.How I cosplayed the cast of Free! sort-of-tutorial8 months ago in Personal More Like This
In this post, I'll get into how I did each one!
Intro, and some bad old pictures
For those of you who have the patience to read for some extra info!
When I started cosplaying, I didn't think makeup was such a major part of it. I was so hesitant to even put eyeliner because I'd think, "This character is a guy, I shouldn't look like I'm wearing makeup!" And I guess I was silly enough to think I looked enough like the characters I chose without doing anything to my face?
I can't find more pictures of my really old cosplays (which is just as well, hahah) from the time I didn't want to use makeup apart from these:
I cosplayed as Haku from Naruto. I don't remember wearing any makeup for this. It doesn't show too well on these pictures but I saw some others where the natural redness of my lips made it look like I was wearing lipstick even if I wasn't. I felt it made me look more feminine than I should. Haku is still a guy after al

Zhang Jingna (aka `zemotion) is an internationally renowned photographer and one of deviantART's most popular deviants. She's produced fashion editorials for magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, Elle, and L'Officiel, and her amazingly beautiful photography deviations rank as some of the most viewed pieces on deviantART. We recently caught up with `zemotion and asked what advice she'd offer fellow deviants and young artists.

Never thought I'd actually post a journal entry, and since I only have four watchers anyway for whom this might be relevant it's sadly probably mostly an exercise in futility... BUT I GOTTA BELIEVE.Never thought I'd actually post a journal entry,2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since I've been on this Les Misérables kick, I've discovered a lot of absolutely amazing fan art and fan fiction. And all of it just makes my face stretch out in misshapen glee.
How do you pick a favorite out of so many things you love? It's damn hard (and to be perfectly honest, I'm not even sure that this really is my favorite since there is so much other great stuff I also love that makes me just kind of lose control over my vocal centers and drool on the keyboard). But what this IS, is a project I love and can support in a "Shut up and take my money!" kind of way.
There's a Les Mis AU fiction series called Pont-au-Change. I discovered it last month and I haven't even been able to geek out about anything else since then. Three books out in e-format, with three to go, they basically follow the premise of "What if Valjean managed to

Poland's Birthday! TODAY IS THE DAY OF INDEPENDENCE OF OUR GREAT COUNTRY, GREAT POLAND!Poland's Birthday!5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Greetings to all Poles with their holiday!
We, Ukrainians, understand how it is difficult to get the freedom for the country. And we are very happy, that our west brothers got it and saved it in those terrible times. Ukraine could not save her independence in those times, but the support of Poland in the end of XX century helped us and we could get our freedom.
We hope that Ukraine and Poland will be friendly at last forever.
Thank you, Poland, for the support and help!
Long live Poland! Long live Ukraine!
