New Project Announcement: TOMEWell people, I think I've teased you all enough, so I'm finally revealed one of the big secret projects I've been cooking up for the past month or so. I've prepared two trailers, one an introduction and one an overview, for a new animation project...New Project Announcement: TOME2 years ago in Personal More Like This
TOME: Terrain of Magical Expertise.
So for those of you who aren't aware of the history behind this, at its core, TOME is a re-branding of the very first big Flash Movie project I ever did on Newgrounds, TvTome Adventures. Back when I was a teenager and really obsessed with "cyberpunk" stuff like Reboot, .hack// and MegaMan Battle Network, I created a series with characters all inspired by friends I'd made on the very first message board I ever posted on. The series, at the time, was using mostly ripped sprites from various video game
Harley Quinn Part 2There's been a LOT of talk about this contest. http://www.dccomics.com/node/305151 Most of it negative, some of it positive, and some of it trying VERY hard to justify it. I've already said my peace about it in 3 consecutive comics which you can read here:Harley Quinn Part 26 months ago in Personal More Like This
But outside that there's still a lot of debate going on and I wanted to touch upon it. First up, there were a lot of people trying to justify "why" she was committing suicide. A lot of these people suggested things like "she's a crazy character and she's unstable so of course she would do something like this" or "she'd probably do this if the joker left her." And while those people DO have a point... all of it is rendered null and void when the creators of the contest come right out and say that the point of these attempted suicides was a tongue-in-cheek gag at the awful shit they were gonna put Harley through. As in, she sees what they're gonna write a

Say what you will about Anita Sarkeesian, you gotta admit that people do take note of what she says for good or ill. In this piece of news, it's for the good.
As you might already know, in her latest video she outlined a simple "damsel frees herself" video game. Nothing too spectacular but it showcased how one can subvert the typical trope and make a strong female character out of it. While many were quick to criticize her for not making the game herself (given her kickstarter success), others took a more direct approach and actually made a game in 2 weeks.
The game is called "Sorry Mario Bros," and the plot is that Princess Peach decides to rescues herself by leaving Bowser's castle in world 8-4. You progress right to left through familiar, but slightly altered, original Mario Bros. worlds working your way backwards towards world 1-1. Along the way you can take detours and use Peach's float ability to reach hidden areas and collect "princess coins."

And honestly, I'm not feeling it. Doug Walker (aka The Nostalgia Critic) has been doing a series where he's been vlogging his experience watching the original Avatar series for the first time (Take a look they're actually really good go watch them! http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/specials ). He's a new fan to the series and his enthusiasm and critique of the original series has only helped to intensify my loathing and hatred of The Legend of Korra's disastrous season finally.
The more I remember how amazing and awesome the original Avatar series is, the less I am interested in picking up the pieces and following these unlikable characters through another series of exploits, especially after haphazardly killing off the main villain in such a clumsy and awkward way. Not only that, but there's no growth to the main character at all. There's no journey of her learning how to be an Air Bender the way there was
brentalfloss: The Comic is EndingToday we announced publicly that brentalfloss: The Comic http://brentalflossthecomic.com/ will be ending by the end of this month. After today's strip there will be 5 more and then it will be done. The website will continue to exist, so the comics themselves aren't going anywhere, and I will continue to repost the backlog of strips to DA until they run out, but by the end of August there will be no more new strips.brentalfloss: The Comic is Ending7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Sad to see it go after doing 200 episodes. This has been one of my favorite comic related jobs I've ever had and an incredibly steady and reliable one at that. I personally would love to keep doing this job for a couple more years, but Brent and Dan both want to move on to other projects and we've all come to the mutual agreement that 200 is a perfect stopping point. Nothing lasts forever, ya know?
To be honest, I am a little surprised brentalfloss: The Comic lasted this long. Things were a little rocky at first, and it took all 3 of us a while to get used to each others sty
New Mickey Mouse CartoonsHave any of you been watching these? Animator Paul Rudish (famous for Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack) has been hired to do 19 animated shorts featuring Mickey Mouse and company. The cartoons are, naturally, very graphic and reminiscent of the 1930's "rubber limb" style, but with a modern twist. Here's a sample:New Mickey Mouse Cartoons8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Sorry fans from other countries, but apparently this is only for American viewership Although I am told that if you install something called ProxMate in your browser you can unblock them for your region...
As of this journal there are 4 of the 19 shorts currently available on YouTube under the names New York Weenie, Yodelberg, Croissant de Triomphe, and No Service.

Man oh man oh shevitz, THAT was a thing, lemme’ tell ya.
Again, it has been recounted in many other places the play-by-play of exactly what went down, but it is impossible to convey the raw awesomeness in words alone. I daresay this flick is gonna’ be a crowd-pleaser. That said, I’ll just run through the highlights of what I saw.
- Aaron Taylor Johnson is escorting a little Japanese boy that I think he’s just keeping an eye on during this segment of the film. Not sure what the story is there, but they’re on a monorail when the power goes out.
- SOMETHING’S going on out in the Hawaiian jungle, and it starts a fire that catches the attention of attendees at a luau. Suddenly, a little girl notices the water from the shore receding…and people start running, because, y’

Firstly, I went and saw me some PACIFIC RIM with the G-Fest crew. MAN what an amazing time at the theater - it was like watching a wrestling match. The theater rocked with elated cheers as steel fist smashed against reptilian flesh and bone.
As to the plot...I reached a strange revelation while at my table during the convention proper. If PACIFIC RIM, flaws and all, were an animated feature...would anyone have ANY complains about it? Personally I prefer the live-action-cartoon approach - it makes the universe feel all the more rich as a sumptuous visual feast.
That being said, the film isn't performing the way it should. It may pull a HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON and stick around for a time, earning its money over a period of time, but it's not looking great at the moment. Go see it! And a second and third time! There's a lot riding on PacRim's success so go support it!

Concerning Use of My ArtworkHey everyone. Sorry I died for a while. Again.Concerning Use of My Artwork8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Lately (and for some time now,) I have been notified on various occasions
concerning the use of my artwork for things like (but not limited to):
- YouTube videos
- Forum avatars/signatures
- Inspiration for creepypasta and fanart
- Journal/forum art features
- The Creepypasta Wiki
...amongst other, similar sites and uses.
I am going to say right now, up-front...
I'm okay with this.
I don't mind people using my art for fanart...inspiration...
forum avatars or signatures, etc, etc, etc...
graphics for creepypasta readings on youtube. Whatever.
It's kind of flattering and I'm alright with it.
Just so long as it isn't outright plagiarism or art theft....
claiming the artwork as their own and the like.
But yeah, using it for forum pics and stuff...shoot. Go ahead.
All I ask, though, is credit inking back here to my gallery or profile
to give credit where it's due for the artworks themselves.
Korra Problems Part 2After reading through the comments on my last journal (http://tompreston.deviantart.com/journal/New-Korra-Trailer-Released-386752726) it was apparent I wasn't very clear about what I meant when the producers knew at the end of the last episode that they had been picked up and could've changed the ending. Some of you thought that I meant they knew all along that Korra was meant to have more than one season, and that's not true. Korra was planned as a one season show, and it was through it's popularity while airing that Nickelodeon greenlit the next several seasons. However, that doesn't excuse the rushed ending and I wanted to explain why, but it's gonna take a little bit since I need to explain a bit about american animation productions first.Korra Problems Part 28 months ago in Personal More Like This
Now keep in mind, a lot of this journal will be speculation since I didn't work on Korra and have no privy to the actual behind the scenes workings. However, I do know a lot about american TV animation production to make some educated guesses and

So here's what we know:
- Action will take place in Japan, Hawaii, Las Vegas (that's the Mini Liberty, not the NYC original), San Francisco...and SOMEWHERE in the Pacific Northwest?
- Godzilla has been around since 1954...and the US military spent several decades just trying to KILL HIM.
- The MUTO creatures are in the trailer, as the flying one can be seen along with its long hook-like arm.
- There's SOME sort of egg-sack-thing on one of the nukes...could they be MUTO eggs?
- Cranston's character was involved in a nuclear accident in Japan 15 years prior to the film, and smells a conspiracy.
- Watanabe's character discovers some sort of massive fossil underground...
And there you have it
- Firstly, everybody needs to get in the mood by listening to this:
Keep your eyes on that page. Godzilla is coming...TOMORROW.
- Also, take

If this is old news, forgive me I just found it and thought it was hilarious:
Level 5 Studios (the company most noted for the Professor Layton series) was having their 15th year anniversary this week. Along with discounted game prices, part of the celebration was to make a wallpaper featuring player voted favorite characters. Unfortunately for Level 5, the voting of these characters quickly came under attack by trolls who hijacked the results and submitted obscure minor characters instead. The final list included the airplane from Aero Porter in first place with 46,000 votes.
Rather than toss out the votes and start over, Level 5 just rolled with it and produced the wallpaper with the skewed results anyway. You can download the wallpaper here: http://www.level5.co.jp/15th/vote/
I think what I love most about this is that they actually went with the airplane. The inanimate object from the Aero Porter games gets TOP BILLING on the poster. That's hilari

Probably many would think its not a big problem having so much of them, but lets be realistic, I cant even remeber half of them and in the end I dont like many of them...but I think some of you do...so...I decided I will stay with only a ver short number of fakes and the rest...its here for selling!!!

Why Can't Warner Bros Get Their Act Together?Over the weekend at SDCC, Warner Bros announced that the new Man of Steel sequel will also feature Batman. The team-up movie will be followed by a Flash movie and then a Justice League Avenger's style team-up movie. This has a lot of people scratching their heads and wondering what exactly is wrong with DC and Warner Bros respectively. Why Flash and not Wonder Woman? Why add Batman when reports have been told that Christian Bale doesn't want to return and we'll likely get a completely new Batman? Why do a team-up so soon after the first Man of Steel movie instead of fleshing out Superman's modernized world better? Why Can't Warner Bros Get Their Act Together?8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Well... to put it bluntly I don't think Warner Bros really gives a shit about comic book themed movies and they're only going through these motions because they feel like they HAVE to rather than because they WANT to. Just take a look at their track record.
History of Bad Marketing
First off, Warner Bros has a problem of relying too heavily on the people th
Thoughts on the 'Hobbit Cartoon Study'Much like the pin-up series I showcased last week, this was a little thought experiment I did during the 6 months I was absent. I was having a very hard time motivating myself to draw anything and this was something I tried to do for myself as a therapeutic exercise.Thoughts on the 'Hobbit Cartoon Study'10 months ago in Personal More Like This
One of the things that was tricky to deal with was the awkward hands. The Rankin Bass cartoon has very stylized grizzly hands which are drawn entirely counterintuitive to how I would naturally draw them. I frequently looked for specific hand gestures from the cartoon and used those to help draw them here. They presented quite a challenge.
The other challenge was to try and illustrate backgrounds that the cartoon characters would be laid into, much like real cel animation. I wanted to mimic the cartoon as best I could and that meant rendering painted backgrounds. I had some new brushes I was trying out at the time and, to be honest, the backgrounds I came up with weren't quite the watercolor/inked hybrid of the 1977 movie.
Fez II Canceled Over Twitter FiascoPhil Fish, the creator of Fez, has had a very difficult time in the gaming industry. He had a partner who left and was suing him, his game broke down on it's unveiling at E3, Microsoft's price structure was so expensive that it rendered the X-Box version of his game broken because he couldn't afford to pay for a day one patch, and he's been maligned time and time again for saying things people find offensive (such as the idea that all Japanese games suck).Fez II Canceled Over Twitter Fiasco8 months ago in Personal More Like This
But this week on his twitter account, after being made fun of on GameTrailer's "Invisible Walls" show, he released a statement where he essentially told presenter Marcus Beer to kill himself. The full twitter quote goes something like this:

So some of you might’ve seen that I attempted to do a “preview” of a comic on DA with a link to the full comic on my website. It was clearly a first attempt and the information I’ve gathered from it is still... inconclusive. According to statistics, the number of views didn’t really change at all compared to other posts where I didn’t have a link, but on the other hand I got more people communicating with me on my SYAC page for a change. There was also some confusion about if it was a preview or not, and that’s my bad for making such a terrible preview image. I’ll do better next time, I promise.
The whole point of this all is to try and generate more advert revenue on my various websites without bombarding y’all with pointless stuff or looking like i’m “whoring” my work. That’s one of the few things I kinda dislike about social network marketing... it can very easily turn

The Metroid Prime Games Never HappenedAfter posting that journal about how Mako Mori has parallels with Samus Aran, I kept thinking about how the chronology of the Metroid series doesn’t make much sense. What bothers me is the Prime games. They just don’t “fit” properly within the rest of the timeline. So I started to do a little digging to see if anyone else agreed and I found this:The Metroid Prime Games Never Happened1 month ago in Personal More Like This

"This is the first joint operation I've been a part of since I became a freelance bounty hunter. It's also the first time I've taken orders from a commanding officer since leaving the Federation army." -- Samus Aran
Whether Nintendo knew it or not, those two sentences completely invalidate the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Samus took orders from Admiral Dane, and she worked directly with the Federation army to secure the Pirate Homeworld and destroy Phaaze. If that doesn't qualify as a joint operation spearheaded by

A New Monster Battle Game?Hey guys - what if somebody, somewhere, was talking about the next big monster fighting game? And we needed YOUR help?A New Monster Battle Game?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Here's the thing - with Kickstarter blowing up everywhere, and crowd-sourcing becoming viable, we could get Kaiju fans everywhere to pool their money, and get a game made. Not just any game, though! A game that exactly conforms to what WE, the fans who would pay for it, would want in a Kaiju battle game.
This isn't just idle speculation - Chris Mirjahangir, filmmaker from LA, got in touch with Simon Strange, the mastermind behind the last three Godzilla fighting games. After bringing me in, we all jumped onto Skype, and started banging around about what it would take to create a new, high-profile kaiju battle game. Turns out, "what it would take" is very dependent upon what we, the fans, would be willing to pay for.
So, in all seriousness, and FOR REALS I put out this question: What would you like to see in a new Kaiju battle game, and
