Double-Edged Legends XIaChapter Eleven Part One: Now That's Funny
Worn out from last night's heart-to-heart with Azrealle and the others, David slept in the next morning. Even though he had no hangover, having process all of that alcohol had left him dehydrated to the point that he couldn't do so much as take his morning piss, causing him to run for the kitchen and quickly chug a gallon of purified spring water. When finished wetting his whistle, David went back to his room to change out of his Native American style pants and into his day clothes. Arriving at his room, he realized that the door was closed; he could have sworn he left it open when he hurried out to the kitchen so quickly.
"Hello," said David, as he opened the door, "I swear, if one of you guys jump out and scare the crap out of me I'll " Before he could get his entire threat out he saw something on his bed, which had been made. He was surprised and confused, to say the least, when he saw it was Gahege's breastplate that he threw in

Although he woke up quite early the next morning, David hadn't slept like he did last night in a very long time. Not only did Launa's little lullaby flawlessly enchant him into a peaceful sleep, but it also felt like it was the very first perfect and truly genuine moment he ever had with Launa. It wasn't that all of the other heart-warming times he had shared with her weren't priceless and unforgettable. Rather, it was the only one that happened with nothing emotionally painful or unpleasant right before or soon after. Nobody was crying or hurt, there wasn't a single ounce of negativity, and it ended with no feelings of awkwardness, no contemplating of vengeful pranks, no harsh words leading up to it, and no concerns of what hardships may lie ahead. Perfect.
Getting out of bed proved to be somewhat difficult, being as relaxed as he was. When David was finally on his feet he got dressed and walked out of his room to the smell of Launa preparing yet an

Launa couldnt believe it. Her old friend, David Hemming, had come to Amsterdam all the way from Canada to see her.
Oh, David, She could barely contain her excitement, you have no idea how much Ive missed you all of these years. Launa was still giving him a bear hug.
Launa, exclaimed David; he was having trouble breathing with his giant friends huge arms holding him against her firm chest, I may be older and stronger since you last hugged me, but youre still crushing me. She immediately put him down and brushed him off. Surprisingly, David seemed completely unharmed after her monstrous embrace.
Sorry about that. Its just that I never thought that I would ever see you again. There are so many things I want to ask you, and Im pretty sure you have some questions of your own, too.

David woke up the next morning with Wyanets arm around him. He laid there for a while feeling the soft fur on the arm that was holding him, but eventually got up to think about what had happened last night. Despite his knowing that the two of them trusted one another over anything else, he was still having doubts whether or not she would risk his safety. Especially when it meant crossing over into werewolf territory, let alone going back to the same place both of them were nearly killed.
Deciding that this was something that he couldnt think through with an empty stomach, David went to the central hut and got some breakfast. Even though he had been eating the same stuff since he arrived here, David had yet to grow tired of freshly prepared meat and fish. Before he could dig in Wematin sat next to him in the exact same place when they had first met, only this time he had his own bowl of cooked meats.

Man, what a party. David woke up much later than he usually did. It seemed to be midday. But it did not really matter since pretty much everyone else was completely exhausted from last night. All but Takoda of course, he still wanted to do nothing but play with David. However, Wematin did nothing to help him. David would have to find a game that wouldnt require him to work so hard, and fast. Ive got it' thought David.
Hey Takoda, would you like to play a brand new game?
Really, Takodas face lit up with joy and anxiety, what is it called, and how do you play it.
Its called hand slap, explained David, you hold out your hands like this and I try to slap them and you pull them back. If I miss, then you get to try.
They both sat down across from each other inside the hut in the center of the camp and got to playing the game. It didnt take Takoda very long to match

Over the past few days, Davids skill with a bow became very effective. Although he wasnt the best, his performance was impressive even by Tokala standards. However, not being able to shoot anything except stationary targets became quite tiresome. He wanted to challenge himself.
One day when David was shooting with Wyanet he asked her if they would be able to go hunting outside the camp.
Sure, why dont we go tomorrow. she answered.
If you dont mind, said David, I would like to go today. I havent left the camp since you brought me here. I mean, Ive seen you go out and come back with huge game, while Im stuck in here trying to impress your father and come up with new ridiculous games for Takoda that dont involve me getting destroyed or sore by the end of the day.

Please, leave my son alone, take me instead. A middle-aged man was on the floor looking at a giant figure holding his child.
Ive always heard that its really nice to have offspring, said the beast, but honestly, I wouldnt really know, not ever having one of my own. And I dont think it would be fair to leave your little whelp without a father. The child was being crushed to death by huge hands covered in dark brown fur.
No, dont, Ill do anything, pleaded the old man, just tell me what you want me to do and Ill do it.
Hmm, said the monster, alright, if you want your son to live then you will come with us. Two others grabbed the man and carried him outside. As they were walking out, a cry of pain could be heard from inside that was suddenly cut off.

Wake up, Launa was gently shaking David in his guest bed, Come on, David, we need to get to work as soon as possible. But he just motioned for her to leave him and let him sleep. David was extremely tired after what had transpired last night. The awesome party his friends threw for him, the bar games, the fight he had with Joel, the battle he had with his inner beast and the partial transformation everyone saw had a strong effect on him. He hadnt felt this warn down and weak since he woke up in the Tokalan camp for the first time, when he had bandages around his broken ribs and his dislocated arm in a sling. To make it worse, he kept dreaming about the fight he had with his other self: the emotions and memories that flashed through his mind. Now, we have to start your training as soon as possible. Before David could ask for a little more time, Launa pulled him out of bed and dragged him to the kitc

Ah my head, David was waking up from his little nap, why does my head hurt so much. He was having trouble remembering what had happened to him. It then came to him that the last thing that he remembered was holding something furry, something huge. What was it; what was I doing? David thought. Then it hit him like the tree he had slammed into. Wyanet, wheres Wyanet.
As he hurried to get up, he felt sudden and sharp pain in his chest and right shoulder; he laid back down. His ribs hadnt fully healed and his shoulder was still dislocated.
Where the hell am I? Wherever he was, he wasnt back at the cabin. He way lying in big animal pelts of fur in what seemed like a teepee. David could hear voices coming from outside, but they were too indistinct to tell what was being said. So David slowly got up and peeked through the flap. Wyanet was talking to another Tokala, but he

The next morning was very calm and peaceful. David could hear water running in the river, birds singing in the trees and see beams of sunlight shining through the cracks of the windows. Even though he had a really good night sleep and what not, David was still very emotionally tired from completely spilling his guts the previous day.
His little friend, on the other hand, was very anxious to get the day going. She tried to do everything: nuzzle his face, lick his feet, try to pull the covers off of him, but to no effect.
Please, said David, just a few more minutes.
Beginning to get frustrated, the vixen shifted forms once again, got a firm hold on his ankles and yanked him clear out of bed. David hit the floor with a thump.
All right, all right all ready, yawned David, Im getting up, just give me a while longer to make breakfast and get my things together.

"NO BROWNIES!!!" Sabrina shouted at the top of her lungs in her sleep.
"WHAT THE FU " David quickly woke up from the booming sound, falling out of bed and hitting the floor with a thud. Looking around in bemusement, he realized what had just happened, unable to believe that Sabrina was still fast asleep. Of all the things she shouted he couldn't think of anything more random and confusing. Getting up he headed for the bathroom for a good long and hot shower, and boy did it feel good to get clean again, even if he didn't get to use that really nice steam shower in the guest bathroom at Launa's apartment. By the time he got out David had the desire to break a sweat and go for a nice long jog. Wondering if Sabrina would like to join him, he went up to the side of her bed.
"Sabrina," he gently shook her shoulder, "come on, it's time to get up." She just brushed him off and continued to snore, but he wasn't going to give up. "Now Sabrina. Get out of

Hey, David, said Maiara, walking past him, Just a couple more months.
Dont remind me, David hadnt been this anxious in his entire life, This wait is going to be the death of me.
Despite what David and Wyanet had to painfully wait for during the past seven years, they still enjoyed each others company no less. Everyday was spent together, with neither one leaving the others side for more than a couple of hours. They had even moved into the same tepee.
Throughout the past few weeks or so, everyone had been telling David what he already knew regarding what was soon coming up: his twenty-fifth birthday, and in extension, his marriage to Wyanet.
In order to ease his mind, David decided to ask Wematin, Gahege and Bidziil to spare a few minutes to talk with him.
Dude, what seems to be the problem, asked Wematin, youve been looking a little uneasy for a while.

Lets get this over with. Megedagik ordered Pauwau to pick up Gahege and the rest of his loyal minions follow him into the middle of the Tokalan tribe when he was sure that David had chased Wyanet deep in to the dark wilderness. As they entered all of the Tokala within the camp began to charge their long time enemies, Bidziil being in front with his axes in hand. However, before anyone could shoot the first arrow or take the first killing lunge, Gahege came around Megedagik, but what they didnt see is Pauwau hiding behind him and holding Davids hunting knife being held to his back. This caused everyone to stopped, but feelings of deep and passionate hate only grew stronger and stronger by the second.
Despite being no match for Megedagik and any of his minions, Maiara bravely stepped up to face him. What are you doing with my husband, she demanded, let him go.
Let him go? Megedagik had a good laugh.

Launa couldn't remember the last time she felt this sorry for anybody, at least for a very long time. Even though she was somewhat proud of David for making what would most likely be the hardest decision he'd have to make in his entire life, she wished that he had told them what he had just told Wyanet from the start. Early the next morning Launa decided to talk with David. She entered his teepee when she was sure he had awoken.

"Tell them," David's back was to her as he was finishing his packing, "tell Sabrina and Azzy, tell my family everything you know about last night and what I need to do."
"Okay, but don't you think you should break the news to them instead? They know you better and might take it a bit more easily."

The next morning David woke up from one of his dreams yet again. It seemed to him that these nightmares would be with him for the rest of his life, but hopefully he would be able to at least lessen their frequency if no, when he learned control. I dont have any room for doubt if I want to stay with my family, thought David, I must have faith.
It was pretty early in the morning, but he didnt dare go back to sleep, not that he really could already being up. So he put his shirt back on and went to the living room after making Sabrinas bed. David saw that he was the only one who was awake at the moment.

Retrieving the mail was the only thing that David Hemming had to look forward to once a week. It was pretty much the only responsibility that was officially his, and was the only reason he had for not leaving this God forsaken boys orphanage. Not to mention evading the clutches of the hag who ran the place, Ms. Proulx.
He always told himself: This is the day, this is the day! David did not even waste the time to put on his coat or his shoes if they werent on already. It didnt matter that it was snowing in late fall and less than zero degrees outside. He made sure that nobody could lay their hands on the mail before him. The young lad didn't care if it meant being harassed all day by Camille and his gang, or doing all the chores that Ms. Proulx could think of. Just as David had suspected, the past week living with Launa and her roommates has been most pleasant. One of the most interesting experiences hes had is eating pizza for the first time. His good friends couldnt believe it when he said he had never had such a great Italian food, but not too surprised considering the type of food Ms. Proulx fed him and the others at the orphanage and where he has been living for the past eight years.
However, not everything was well. David still knew little how to control the beast that dwelt within him. It surprised him that Launa and the others hadnt figured out his condition by now. David woke up yelling in terror. His heart pounding in his chest, so hard that he could feel himself rock back and forward from the force of his pulse alone. Cold sweat covered his entire body and his hands were shaking like shriveled leaves in a blizzard. It was another one of those strange dreams, but he couldnt remember anything about it, not a single thing, no matter how hard he tried. These nightmares have been getting worse over the years. Rather, he had been waking up with a stronger sense of fear and horror in his heart, but it felt like these feelings werent his own. He just didnt understand, and part of him hoped that he never would.
Knowing that he would not be able to sleep any time soon, David decided that the cool midnight breeze would help calm him down. So he went to grab his jacket and shoes; he was so glad that the spring snow had melted away weeks ago.

Hurry and get up. Anybody who isnt ready and on the bus in an hour will be left behind to clean the whole orphanage.
That morning everyone woke up to the extremely effective alarm that was Ms. Proulxs hoarse voice. It was that day of the month Ms. Proulx took all of the orphans with her to the town of Churchill; the only day when Davids chances of enjoying himself were more than one in a million. Not hesitating, David jumped out of bed and quickly got ready. He didnt care the slightest that he was still in great pain from his beating last night.
David hurried downstairs to his awaiting breakfast, very hungry from missing last nights supper. He was glad to find out that todays breakfast was oatmeal with brown sugar and milk. Launa could not remember the last time her apartment had been such a damn mess. Her roommate, Sabrina, just had to invite a few extra people to the party last night, more like fifty extra people. Not a single floorboard or peace of furniture didnt have a piece of trash or some unidentifiable wet substance covering it. She had been at it all damn day and only finished about half of the job. And to just add a cherry on top, she had to do it all on her own; Sabrina had a terrible hangover, which she most certainly deserved.

It was a dark night along a moon lit dirt road in the middle of the woods. The air was cool with an occasional breeze. Walking in the middle of the road were a woman carrying her infant child in her arms as he slept calmly and peacefully, sucking on his thumb as his mother's arms held him lovingly against her bosom. She smiled down at him, rubbing his soft head with her left hand as he lay in her right arm. Next to her was a tall man with long black hair that went well past his shoulders. One could tell he wasn't sharing the warm emotions the woman had, though he did seem a bit anxious about something but not too anxious. Looking to the woman he saw how she was lovingly looking down at her son with such a warm and loving smile, showing her tender loving care for him.

Trudging across the dunes of the hottest area in the world, even for an almighty being such as Tahera, wasn't the easiest of tasks.
