Canaan Part 1Canaan Part 11 year ago in Profiles More Like This
In the beginning the gods and I decided to create other beings. We debated on how they should act, how their mortality is handled, and in what conditions can they live. Each god was given an assignment on what to handle. Of course I gave everyone their duties and led the order of creation. The creation began with the formation of the Earth but was formless and empty.
El: Let there be light!!! It looks good. Now I will form darkness and it will be separate from the light. The light shall be called day and the Dark will be called night. We will create more as the days pass since it will set a precedent of time for our creation. Each day will repeat to create order.
Baal: Father, we must create land and water so there will be livable space for these beings. If you expect order then we must do this.
El: You are right my son. This will be done in the second day. Gather the other gods so we may create all of these living beings.
And so the first day passed. A very short day to be honest. Loo

Stay With Me"You dummkopf." Deryn muttered at Alek's limp form on the mortician's table. She had taken an airship and a train into Vienna that same day, but the grief hadn't hit her until she had seen Alek's lifeless face. It had seemed unreal. But it was true, and Alek's body lay on the uncomforting metal table, his head elevated slightly by a block. His face was already pale and his lips were blue from the chill of the cold room.
She struggled to remember the last time that she had kisses those lips, and what it had felt like. She couldn't remember if it had been a passionate, bloodthirsty or if it had been slow, and spontaneous. She pulled the sleeves of her jacket closer to her hands, trying to get them to cover her bare wrists. The cold had already started nipping at Deryn's cheeks and her exposed fingertips. There was no awful smell of death and decay in the room, just the faint scent of anti-bacterial

Alek stepped out of the cab that he had taken to his son's house. Artemis stood at the door, awaiting his arrival. He took Alek's jacket and gave his father his arm for support as they slowly walked along the cobblestone path.
"Sorry that Julia isn't here to greet you right now, Da. She had to go pick up Jaspert from football practice." He said as he hung up his father's tweed jacket onto the coat rack. He sighed heavily. "I have no idea where Deryn's disappeared to."
Alek smiled, his green eyes had never quite lost their soft twinkle. "I'll go outside to look for her." He offered. Artemis seemed at a loss, but nevertheless, he nodded, letting his father have that one si

Liberty. Freedom. America.
Every candidate in every political party will use those words, trying to make you believe that their party is the patriotic choice (and therefore the only choice).
I will not.
I will not tell you that, if you are a true American, our party is the only option. I will not say that a vote for me is a vote for George Washington, or Abraham Lincoln, or Chuck Norris. I will definitely not state that to vote for my opponents is to vote for Communists or Nazis. I will not say any of that, however true it may be.
I will, however, tell you what a vote for me does mean.
It means minimum taxes and maximum protection of your privacy.
It means minimum gun control regulations and maximum liberty.
It means a free market for business. It means letting states try out education ideas and not forcing the federal government's ridiculous tests on all kids. It means protecting doctors from lawsuits when they were just trying to save a life.

It is the early 2050s, and humanity has entered into arguably the most pivotal moment in its history since the first ape stood upright. The earth is divided into two factions, the Reactionaries, and the Enlightened; two sides currently living in a very uneasy peace. The Reactionaries have fenced themselves into a few select communities, mostly in sights of religious and cultural importance, the largest being Vatican City, Jerusalem, Mecca, Salt Lake City, etc. The Enlightened control most of the planet, but dwell primarily in the great Megalopolises of the world.
The Enlightened administer themselves in an almost anarchic system known as Cloud Democracy, with political divisions meaning very little beyond what remains of the regional historical identity of Earth's ancient civilizations. The Enl

Now what's wrong with that? Well, quite a bit actually, and spoiler alert both the Liberals and the Conservatives are wrong on this one.
You see the outsourcing of jobs to Countries with looser labor laws, is part of the free market that conservatives love so much, but those jobs, despite what people many think with recent labor riots in China, are never coming back. The stimulus package that the left championed and has so far only kept a few manufacturers from bleeding employees like a civ, that will do NOTHING to creating long term jobs in America. ATandT represses the poorToday I found out something that really pissed me off. AT&T has a monopoly hold on rural areas and will prevent any chance of upward economic movement. We got charged more for internet than what we were promised so we tried to call for a new bundle package and found a good deal in DirectTv. But when we gave our address, they told us that AT&T has us locked into a monopoly that cannot even get a basic bundle package where we are. This is just the perfect example of Corporate America's repression on the poor and keeping them where they are at in life. It is a given that in this day and age you need electronic infastructure and such to get yourself in a position to try and make something better of yourself. Practices like this one only keep one down and can never make something of themselves. So next time I hear a politican complain about welfare, why not give us rural poor a chance to make something of ourselves and kill practices like AT&T has on rural Americans everywhere! Conservatives and ReactionariesThe meaning of words is too important to ignore in politics, and there is one word that has been mutilated into something grotesque by the worst elements of our political discourse. Conservative. Its an idea that advocates trying to preserve things as they are by emphasizing stability and continuity. It is an ideology that does not fear change, but simply wishes for it to be managed well. Too many politicians identifying as conservative today are in fact reactionaries. Reactionaries oppose modernism and seek a return to "the way things were," a goal historically being both futile and self destructive; something the current Republican party is demonstrating with startling persistance. True conservatives are not concerned with trivial changes in our culture, but rather the long term continuity of the national spirit. The Reactionaries have been given their moment, and it is time to send them back to irrelevance where they belong.Conservatives and Reactionaries1 year ago in Editorial More Like This

My thoughts on ways to save money for the budget.Abortion and contraceptives can help reduce the deficit? My thoughts on ways to save money for the budget.2 years ago in Editorial More Like This
An opinion essay by PurplePhoneixStar.
America is in a deficit and we need to cut our spending on all fronts, we all know that. I support entitlement reform to make sure that everyone who needs it can get it and those who are faking because they are too lazy to work or they want narcotics for free. Looking at things from a logical cost cutting standpoint, you would think we would want to discourage people from having kids that can't afford it. Contraceptives and even abortions are cheaper than supporting a mother and child for years on a welfare program. The standard pill only costs about 15 dollars a month and condoms are around 3 dollars for a pack of 3. Say these methods fail, the average cost of an abortion ranges from 300-600 dollars. Until week 20, there is nothing any doctor could do to save the baby if it were born then anyway, so why would an abortion be murder if the baby were born and it would die
