I've wrestled with an opening to this piece for the last week, and I've finally decided to just go ahead and lay it all out for those who wish to make use of it.
Knowledge is power, and knowledge of climate-change science is serious lacking for a lot of reasons. Those reasons, however, are NOT what the True Believers in 'man-made' global warming would have you believe.
A lot of people on this site believe that things are not as dire as the heavily politicized IPCC and those governments which back it, would have us believe. Most of you do not really have the time to find the information you need to counter the often scientifically illiterate responses you get from those who would blame the human race, and more specifically the Right / Conservatives / Christians / the US / White people, for what we believe is just another phase in half a billion years of climate change.
They are the ones who, fo
'Give up' on the Constitution?!'Give up' on the Constitution?!2 years ago in Editorial More Like This
The New York Times just ran an editorial, "Let's Give Up On The Constitution." I don't think this effort can be considered some kind of anomaly. Virtually all of the media campaign for gun restrictions is based on precisely the idea that the Constitution has no relevance for public policy. So I see this article written by the professor of constitutional law at Georgetown University, Louis Michael Seidman, as simply cover for what is already going on.
"Imagine that after careful study a government official — say, the president or one of the party leaders in Congress — reaches a considered judgment that a particular course of action is best for the country. Suddenly, someone bursts into the room with new information: a group of white propertied men who have been dead for two centuries, knew nothing of our present situation, acted illegally under existing law and thought it was fine to own slaves might have disagreed with this course of action. Is it even remotely rational that the offici
War Torn Heart"What a long horrible day." Ivan sighed as he sat down on a bench. He leaned back and looked up at the warm sun then closed his eyes. "I wish it is always this warm." He muttered to himself. As he leaned back forward he heard a familiar plop sound. "Not again." He sighed. He looked down and sitting in his lap was his heart. As he was about to put his heart back he stopped for a moment to look at it. He never noticed how beat up it was. Some parts of it where scarred and bruised and it seemed to be struggling to keep going. "Is it really beaten up this bad?" he wondered "I remember it was in a lot better shape, but that was a long time ago when I opened my heart to everyone. Before they betrayed me." His face saddened at these thoughts. He continued to stare at it thinking it could stop any second now.War Torn Heart5 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

The death of DioDio died while killing the dragon named Lady Evil. He was on a quest with his legion of Neon Knights. They were known as the Children Of The Sea. But when he arrived, the dragon looked at him with her evil eyes. They lined up to fight the dragon; he was the last in line. The sight of the evil beast left him completely breathless. He instantly fired a rainbow in the dark. It struck the dragon straight through the heart, but by some mystery, the dragon lived. Then, the dragon attacked, and brave Dio was caught in the middle. He wanted to walk away or turn invisible, but all he could do was stand up and shout. The dragon smote down our hero, but the man on the silver mountain could not be defeated, for the Wild One was born on the sun, and he would not let the dragon triumph. And in his dying breath, Dio screamed, "Shame on the night!" as he sunk his mighty blade into the cold dragon's scales. He rid the world of a terrible beast, but the cost was his mortal form. It was a cold, dark night out in Skyrim, which was normal for the Northern Province. However, this particular night was even darker, and colder than the others, because Winter was fast approaching. However, it also provided for a wonderful ominous setting for what was about to occur. In Skryim, the winters were some of the coldest, given its northern location in the continent. Despite everything about the place practically shouting "COLD", an Argonian man wearing Dragonscale armor, a sign of having slain several dragons, was seen walking through the roads, with a woman of Nordic descent trailing closely behind. The Argonian had dark red war paint over his eyes, and dark green scales all over his body. Two horns sprouted out from the back of his head, and smaller horns lined his eye brows. His golden eyes looked along the wild scenery, taking in the still-breathtaking sights of Skyrim. Now, just because the Argonian man h
A United Front Against the RIAA and MPAAWhen I had first drawn breath as I was released from my mother's womb I was completely oblivious to the oppression that the community of the World Wide Web has suffered. I actually never had a computer until my mother had started going to college at the University of Tennessee. After my first click I was introduced into a cybernetic world full of wonder and valuable knowledge. Although the web is full of wonders, it has a darker side as internet pornography is explicitly exposed and users who desire to harass and abuse others who dwell within this global network. The abusers are called Trolls as they feed off of the hated thrown towards them by the web's casual users.A United Front Against the RIAA and MPAA3 years ago in Letters More Like This

A few days ago, I started seeing journals once again ranting about how SOPA is going to take away our fandom, or even our original content, in my feed here on deviantART. I did a search for reputable sources talking about it, and found just enough to be worth discussing, but not enough to justify the panic that's happened. I vowed I would do a journal about it come the weekend.
Since then, it's blown up. I've had numerous new faves on my old write-up of SOPA 201, despite it having "2013" in the title. I wish I could be happy as well as flattered, but the piece of potential legislation I wrote about then isn't the one people are talking about now. People have been calling for me to explain the "New" SOPA, but research to cite has been scant and so has my time. I have many more obligations now than I did then, and I wrote the last article at a much less busy time

The recent attack brought about by the unexpected and hitherto unknown changelings and their Queen, Chrysalis, had left much of the city damaged. By some miracle there had been no casualties, only a few injuries here and there. Of course it made sense. The changelings were, after all, using the ponies as a food source. It made no sense that they'd want them harmed.
Ponies all about the capital were grateful that the attack had left only structural damage. Damage which was easily rectified. But for one lone unicorns, the damage was far deeper.
Walking along the red carpet of the main hall of the Canterlot royal palace, Captain Shining Armour was looking uncharacteristically fo
My Rejected Creepypasta Entry of The Angry BeaversThe Nickelodeon cartoon show, The Angry Beavers, which aired from 1997-2001, had an episode that was unfinished and was never to be aired or seen in public resulting the show to be cancelled, and that, in question, was "Bye Bye Beavers."My Rejected Creepypasta Entry of The Angry Beavers2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
However, that episode didn't cause the series to be cancelled. In early-2004, as I was recording the Nickelodeon sister channel, Nicktoons on my VCR, they aired an episode, that was made by Genndy Tartakovsky, the person behind Dexter's Laboratory, Hotel Transylvania, and Samurai Jack. It was entitled, "Death of the Beavers."
In 2001, when Genndy Tartakovsky left Cartoon Network, the creator of The Angry Beavers, Mitch Scaurer, met with him and said if he could make the episode, "Death of the Beavers." This resulting a cancellation for the show on Nickelodeon.
I browsed through my VHS collection, and what I had was an unaired episode of The Angry Beavers as we know it. I looked at the sticker label of the tape, it was scribble writing done in black sha

The sirens blared around him and he didn't know which way to turn. They were coming from all sides. For what? Who knew? He certainly didn't. His agile frame began to shake under the pressure of the unknown. Fear caused him to shake. Icy blue eyes turned upward and it seemed as if the stars had been swallowed some sort of odd colour. What had happened to the stars? Where was the sky?
The emptiness consumed him and the sirens blared.
They'd gone to school together, he and Jenny. They'd grown up together in a small town. It saw very little of the outside world other than through television.
"I'm going to get out of here one way or the other."
He'd laughed at her, his grin lingering a while even after the laugh echoed off. "Sure you will. No one gets out of here."
"How do you know?" she murmured back. "No one's holding us."
"How do you know?"
"I just do."
"Stay where you are!"
He looked down, blood covering his hands. How had it gotten there? And the better quest
CSA film: Debunking the nonsenseNow, the film CSA: Confederate States of America is a very entertaining film. I enjoyed it very much and have seen it many times. However, the film contains a great many historical inaccuracies, and follows a very popular mainstream view of history that is not necessarily true. And since I seem to have nothing better to do, I might as well debunk these.CSA film: Debunking the nonsense3 weeks ago in Philosophical More Like This
Firstly, I should explain my views on the conflict. I’m not a Southerner, or even an American, but I am very interested in the history of the United States, particularly the Civil War. I view the South as being in the right in that conflict and, no, I don’t believe in slavery then or now. I believe the war was about more than slavery (the South actually seceded because they felt the north was encroaching on their rights as states, and regulating their trade at their expense to benefit northern industry), and that since every nation in the Americas abolished slavery without a war, the war was totally unnecessary. If you want

A young redhead girl springs out of bed cheerfully and rushes to the window. She flings the window open and looks at the three flowers in her small planter box. She puts her hand over a yellow flower in the middle. Suddenly, its colour changes to a bright tomato red, the colour of her father’s hair. She smiles at the flower and closes the window. She runs over to her desk and grabs her slippers. She puts them on and stands idle for a few moments in front of her bed. It is her twelfth birthday today. It was twelve years ago that she was given life, but now she will finally be given her name.
Reader, what will be the name of this girl? Assuming you named her something ridiculously stupid like ‘flighty broad’ or something, the writer will name her. The name of this girl is Amber Roni. You attempt to be Amber but fail almost immediately. You cannot be Amber. This is not Homestuck.

Shining Armor was jolted awake by his alarm clock. He glanced at it and saw it was 7AM. He grumbled, and after stopping the alarm quickly drifted back off to sleep.

The Maestro's Masterpiece It was a Friday night, April 18th, 2008. The mild Bakersfield winter was already over, and the usual California sunsets were already very present. I was at that time when the orange sun was giving way to another warm night when I eagerly awaited something entirely new. Something called Ben 10: Alien Force. In all honesty, I didn’t expect the show to be much. I had seen the original ben 10, and while it was fairly entertaining, it didn’t quite possess all the aspect to make it truly great. Perhaps the show was like its main character himself in that aspect. Ben Tennyson was good, but he was still cocky, annoying, and without the aid of his Omnitrix, almost totally helpless. However, from what I could tell by the TV promos and the sneak peeks for this new show, Ben 10: Alien Force seemed to be representing something amazingly rare for television these days; intelligence. And it was that which made up my mind for me that I should watch this and see if it’s worth myThe Maestro's Masterpiece2 years ago in Stories & Vignettes More Like This
