Thirteen marks:
The Taxman's Fees
A Chinese curse
If life should bore
Live in interesting times
Fourteen is War
Number Fifteen
My final breath
In life's uncertainty
Is certain Death
A tiny thing
I've left for last
Sixteen gifts Hope

One may smile, another groan
Another laugh, another moan
And others are, as yet, unknown

Before at last my earthly form is laid to rest?
How many cigarettes smoked, and lovers lost?
To fuel the fires of passion and give them voice, what cost?
And when shall poems be written?
Be it early morn or late at night?
Or when the sun is shining bright?
And when shall I be smitten?
With inspiration
For syncopation
And is it worth it in the end?
All the broken hearts which never mend
The moods which rip and tear and rend
And force me to my desk to write
Until it finally turns out right.
And then, what joy, what happiness, it's done!
And time to write another one...

as warmth drifted from the boy to the girl she pushes away
scared and hopeless he drifts to the side, not knowing what to do
yet as the shadows race upon his heart so soft
she turns and with back faced she fills the void of him with nothing more than meaningless work and countless hours of careful study
with a darkness upon his heart, he turned back around and walked away
as cracks shift and mold inside of his heart with every step further away
he slithers back into the drivers seat of his car as tears well upon his face
and drives away....
