OBJECTIVE: SELL THIS DAMN BOOK, DANNY.
At first, Gabriel was nothing more than a character named ONE. He had no backstory, no face, nothing. I just wanted to create a character that was a badass, yet with a sense of humor.
I was inspired by such characters as Boba Fett, Wolverine, Deadpool and Clint Eastwood from The Man With No Name trilogy. I needed to create something that fit that build, however, I'll admit, it wasn't intended at first.
I uploaded him on December 8th, 2008, (which, you can find here: http://danluvisiart.deviantart.com/art/GABRIEL-107612010?q=gallery%3Adanluvisiart%2F7848546&qo=50) and he became one of the most popular characters of the series, if not, the most. Soon I started finding him on forums, websites, fashion blogs (what?), and more.
But what hit me so hard was that the majority of the comments rela

Helpful Habits for CommissionersA lot of people have been asking me to write up something on the topic of taking and pricing commissions like I did with conventions, so here you go!Helpful Habits for Commissioners1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So what is a commission? If you didn't already know, a commission in way I will be discussing is when a person pay for an artist to draw them something. Neato, right? Money for art, couldn't be better.
Well there are a few catches to this art thing professionally and non-professionally; especially on an amateur level. First off, you wont get paid nearly what you should be getting paid...so if your motivation is money... you should pick a different field of interest. Second, you need to build your people skills. Third money management is key. Fourth, time management or cry in a corner.
Let's discuss the first point, not getting paid enough! Illustrators and professional artists in the industry are currently getting paid the same rates as they were 50 years ago... the exact same. Inflation has not touched the art field so we are making less

Of Course, I’m not exposed to every school in the world but from my general knowledge, personal experience and some basic logic: School is way too expensive to attend, especially if it takes you years later to get a decent job after graduation.
Here are three reasons why I’m not happy with most, not all, colleges in america. Especially for artists.
IT COSTS WAY TOO MUCH MONEY! I hear now that some art schools are charging $30,000 a year, for three years. That’s $90,000 of debt. Most professionals in my field of concept art don’t make that in a yearly salary. It’s more expensive than some medical schools and that’s becoming a doctor of some sort. So why is it so expensive? Doesn't matter, it just is.
Think about it this way. You are about to invest almost a tenth of a million dollars for the promise of being a capable person in the industry. But by the end, all you get is a piece of paper and a

I've no doubt made journals like this in the past, but here's another one. This page was in dire need of an update, either way. : )
I could probably talk your ear off for a mile and a half about why I should be the last person you ask for creativity-boosting advice. Aaaand I have my reasons for this, but that's not really what anyone who writes me wants to hear, I think. It's just a fair warning. I'm not an accredited teacher, I was far from the most capable person at my college, I've made a metric crapton of mistakes, and I am nowhere near where I'd like to be in my own personal artistic endeavors. If that doesn't bother you, well, keep on reading!
The best way I could aid anyone interested in bettering themselves would probably be by giving you the advice that inspires me the most. Stuff I've heard from frie

OBJECTIVE: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND STORY BUILDING
I began working pretty heavily on LMS during the first quarter of 2009. I had now a handful of characters, a rough idea of the story, and a general scope of what I wanted the book to be. To get started, I felt every book should have a theme. Movies do, right?
Spider-Man: Great powers, great responsibility.
Batman: Be more than just a man, a symbol, and be remembered a legend.
Star Wars: The myth of a heroes destiny, and the truth that allows him to be set free.
Who was Gabriel? What type of character or archetype was he? What were his rises and
Paint Tool SAI and TRANSPARENT .PNGVarious Paint Tool SAI users might have noticed it, me included, and it always bugged me a bit.Paint Tool SAI and TRANSPARENT .PNG4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Apparently, SAI doesn't support .PNG transparency. Meaning, when you go and try to save an image supposed to have transparent areas, the picture still gets a white background.
To fix this, I and possibly other people used to save the project as .psd and load it in Photoshop or similar programs to save the file with the wanted transparent area.
Well, a quick search made me figure out that it instead DOES allow it, so I was wondering how.
After some research I figured out I was using version 1.0, which is extremely old and outdated, and it doesn't even feature transparency.
It looks like version
and superior are what allows png to have transparent area.
For some reason it doesn't have ink pen, which the old 1.0 had, but that's not a big deal since most of SAI tools are just the same brush with different settings.
So... I upgraded to

Please spread the word:
If you click a link that directs you through the deviantART "There Be Monsters Out There" outgoing link page and you unexpectedly return back to deviantART while logged out, check the URL of where you are before entering any of your details.
The proper URL for the actual deviantART login page is: deviantart.com/users/login. (Note that there is nothing between "deviantart" and "com" except for a "dot.")
If you find yourself unexpectedly logged out after clicking an offsite link, immediately check the URL to see if anything extra has been added -- this would indicate that you are in fact on a third-party website masquerading as deviantART. For example, if the URL reads something like deviantart.[som

Tips on How To Get CommissionsWhen offering commissions, it can be very hard to get yourself noticed, what with the hundreds of thousands of other artists out there. People gripe about how pageviews aren’t important, but they are a helpful tool for you to see what kind of traffic flow you’re attracting. The more views you get, the more of a chance there is that one of those viewers is interested in commissioning you.Tips on How To Get Commissions4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Gigonomics is a term I heard about a few months ago at an FLBA conference. After Googling it, many people seem to be using it in a slightly different way, but I was particularly intrigued by the way it was used by the keynote speaker, who was also a comedian. I can’t remember his name, but I probably will after I post this…
Basically he said that he takes any gig he can get, because you never know who could be in the audience. That was how he was asked to come to our conference. I realized that this can apply here on DeviantArt as well.
The way to get yourself noticed is to
Fear of a False AllegoryFear of a False Allegory Fear of a False Allegory4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The conversation continues around the latest DA poll question regarding rapidly evolving technology and its effect on the arts. This is a particularly important discussion because it strikes at the very heart of our comprehension of what art is, what purpose it serves, why it so valuable, why it must be honored, a space for it to be forever preserved within our human community, why we must be arts advocates and practitioners.
The most basic question, which I try to address as best I can in this essay, is the most potentially deadly question driving this discussion: Is art created with the new tools really art? This question cannot go unanswered in the arts community.
The only thing I now about the dark is you cant see in it.

Today is a special day for me as I have finished to install my expo that will start on next Tuesday in my city near Paris, France. Big pressure, big event for me, one month cover period and 33 pieces printed. It cost my right arm in printing I would say but I think it's really worth the shot. That's the reason why today I feature pieces a bit randomly for lack of time even if I rather like to theme my feature.
Though some great artworks around, enjoy them, favs them and show thoses artists the love they deserve.

Forge has added a "locking objects" feature, which allows you to lock and object in place to matter where it is, and you can also lock it so Jimmy can't join your game and destroy 3 hours of work.
The new Forge also adds dynamic lighting to the mix which helps the graphics in the user-created environments more closely resemble those found in the War Games multiplayer portion of the game.

Microsoft makes a move to protect its IP (Intellectual Property) by prohibiting the monetization of Halo videos in any way. Your Halo headshot montage won't be making you any more money, thanks to a revised Microsoft policy.

I'm Not supporting ''Je suis Charlie''campaign... ur gonna probably ask me why? I'm person who can think about some facts, because why I would support leftist magazine, which was making horrible and offensive drawings about every monotheistic religion? If you are Christian, Jew or Muslim you shouldn't write this on profile. Write something more original, fex "I'm against ISIS" or "against terror" or just don't write anything and do something with that! A lot of ppl nowadays are complain "why everyone are so racist to white/black/Asians?" "why there is socialism in my country? I don't want it" "I'm against big corporations"... and what you all do about it? nothing. Just sitting on the internet and doing nothing with that.
