American Internet Censorship Bill Part 2Yesterday I posted a journal about my thoughts on the American Internet Censorship Bill that was being voted on by the House of Representatives. Within minutes of me posting I found out that the bill was defeated by a majority vote (though a very close one). So for now our precious internet is free once again, but it also raises an entirely different discussion...American Internet Censorship Bill Part 24 years ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of the comments I saw on the various websites I went to dealt with upholding the true definition of "freedom" on the internet. It was quite apparent that a lot of people who were upset at the idea of internet censorship were more or less concerned that they might have to be held responsible for their bad behavior online.
See, we all participate in illegal activity online. If you've ever downloaded a movie, or used a torrent, or uploaded images that weren't your own, or played an emulated NES game, or even uploaded video clips from a TV show to YouTube... you're technically participating in illegal activity.
Missing the PointI've been noticing a trend lately where people seem to deliberately be missing the point behind stuff in order to complain. I used to think it was just me, as I watched people write up lengthy articles nitpicking and "debunking" a comic I made because they simply missed the point, but I've started seeing it happening to other people too.Missing the Point3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Recently over on The Oatmeal, artist Matthew Inman made a joke about guy gamers vs girl gamers. The joke was pretty simple: A guy gamer makes a mistake and gets bitched out by his fellow teammates online. Contrast to that, a girl gamer makes a mistake and her fellow teammates try to comfort her, tell her she's doing great, and make suggestive comments about hooking up. To me the joke was clear, guys treat girls differently online. However, that's not how the rest of the internet saw it...
From what I've read of the whole Oatmeal flare up, the reasons for the hate seem grounded in the fact he depicted the girl as blond and bubbly (ie: stupid) and not as
Perception on the InternetYour average user on the internet can generally say whatever they want about an issue. It's alright to voice an opinion because no one is really going to track you down and attack you for having one (unless you're doing it in a really really public place like a forum or chat room). However, as I've become somewhat popular online, I've noticed a perception from people that I must maintain a neutral and unbiased outlook at all times on every issue.Perception on the Internet3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Regardless of what that issue is I'm not generally free to express my opinion without first listing a whole bunch of qualifiers for "why" I feel this way, or by making it very clear that it's OK for you to disagree. You are not allowed to "sum up" an experience, and it's greatly discouraged for you to generalize. I've notice that this mentality has greatly affected my writing style as it forces me to tip toe very carefully around every issue I address.
Using my most famous example: I am not allowed to say that I enjoyed Metroid: Othe
PS Tut of the Day: Unbind Destructive ActionsI guess I'll start a series of real easy Tutorials that I never see people do. Sure, there are hundreds of thousands of eye tutorials floating around Youtube and DeviantArt, and just as many tutorials for creating clouds and starfields and grass. But these tutorials are the more obscure "never thought of that" kind of thing that I discovered just recently after a good decade of using Photoshop.PS Tut of the Day: Unbind Destructive Actions3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
So, first up.
Let's say that you're rattling along one of your paintings, and a cursory glance at the keyboard arrangement shows that a lot of common shortcut keys are cluttered right next to eachother. Ctrl+S will save the file. Ctrl+A selects the whole image. Ctrl+E merges layers. Ctrl+D clears the current selection. Those are all actions that are nice and tidy right next to eachother on the keyboard.

Crazy stuffwe all are bit crazy right? ill tell one crazy thing i always do.Crazy stuff3 years ago in Personal More Like This
whenever i buy new clothes, i imagine that the clothes can speak to one another, and the old clothing, as i put the new clothing in the closet, are all like "hi bro, im sorry you were bought by this girl man, welcome to eternal mess though, lets hang out sometime, no pun intended" and the new clothing going "terrific, i can see us becoming very close" ...cause clothes are super sarcastic in my mind... and my closet is very small.
i wont tell you the conversation i once had with a spider in my bathroom, in wich i imagined she was a secret spy device XD
so yeah... i hope you all are a little bit crazy too. Life its more fun this way. Just dont go too far i gues....or you can become real pathologically nuts.
Lamar Smith is at it again.Lamar Smith, the creator of the two notorious SOPA and PIPA bills, just seems to want to censor everything. After SOPA and PIPA were suspended indefinitely after such overwhelmingly loud opposition from various websites and lawmakers, Lamar is trying to create ANOTHER bill which is almost as bad as the two previous ones combined.Lamar Smith is at it again.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This bill (which uses Child Pornography as it's cover) would effectively track every time you look at your bank statement or use a credit card online, and force IP service providers to record your credit card and billing statement info, along with your recent internet search histories, and store them in a "secure" place for 18 months. Anything which looked "suspicious" would immediately be flagged to allow the government to step in.
Since billing statements and online transactions are so common these days, this bill would, In effect, be monitoring everything everyone
Internet BullyingFor many kids growing up in the 80's, if you were bullied in school you were able to "tough it out" because you knew your social interaction with said bully was isolated only to when you were in close proximity of them. When the bell range and you went home, you could dismiss the bully's taunting and physical abuse and be reminded of friends and family who supported you and kept your spirits up.Internet Bullying3 years ago in Personal More Like This
But in today's day and age of seemingly constant online connectivity, the "victims" of bullying have a harder time escaping. Once the bell rings, they're still potentially subject to be bullied via verbal assaults online, which often goes completely unnoticed by parents and friends. The worse part of this is that we're often told that because it happens "on the internet" there's no real consequences of trolling or bullying, which is far from true.
I've never accepted the excuse that just because "it happens on the internet" means it can't personally harm you in real life. Part of that is from m
Two Hearts (Much Afraid)There are at least two sides to every person; we're never our most genuine self based on what we project to the world, we're not simply the pranks we do-- or the smiles we force; we're never just the bad or the good we choose to show--- So saying we have dire conditions shouldn't ever be a surprise or an indicator of inferiority, because when you come to the realization that you have a problem, you are progressing a bit further down the path then if you continue to deny-- be it out of pride, intimidation, or other. We are life lessons and flawed perfections and different shades of grey. Sometimes there are multiple sides to those that may be a bit similar to myself; We have hunger, passion, and rejection with a bittersweet liquid in our eyes. This is the duality of the heart. Two Hearts (Much Afraid)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
One of my strongest characteristics is pride. I am an intricately ridiculous mix of deep humility and arrogance. I'm very proud at heart, I have to admit I have a penchant for flattery and I imagine myself taking

Photoshop Actions are the recordings of commands that can be applied to one or multiple images in Photoshop. When you press play, it applies these recorded commands. Think about changing the mood in a picture with various adjustment layers. Using an action can actually help you save a lot of time.
Which versions of Photoshop are lieveheersbeestje's actions compatible with?
All Photoshop CS versions, CS2 to CS6 Extended. My actions are not compatible with Photoshop Elements or other programs.
How can I download your exclusive actions?
You can download most of the actions at my DeviantART for free, it's easy and takes a few seconds. However I do have some exclusive actions as well, you need to pay with DeviantART points in order to get them. Want free points? Read more below in this journal.
30 points every week!
Every week I choose at least one artwork that used one of my actions. This artist will receive 30 points.
MLP Embroidery Eye File SetOver the past year or so, I have received a ton of requests to help different stuffed animal designers. The eye design is a very critical piece of a stuffed animal, as that is where the emotion of the character shines through. I've seen plushies that look absolutely wonderful, but a painted on eye hurts the care and love that went into making the rest of the stuffed animal IMHO.MLP Embroidery Eye File Set3 years ago in Personal More Like This
These designs were made to help fill that gap. Sadly, making the designs for them is a very time consuming process, so these took a really long time to assemble. I have 109 different eye designs and sizes made over the past 6 months or so. Each design takes upwards of 4 hours to make, as they are made to be very high quality, show accurate, and are made by hand not any type of automatic crappy program. That is about 400 hours of love & care that went into making these. That's a full time job for 10 weeks!
Trying to keep website updated with them

The Steampunk Menagerie
The magic of thousands of years of natural selection and other evolutionary factors has created in all living creatures pretty much the optimal version of each for where each fits in the world. But never tell a human being, especially a steampunk, that there’s no need to fix what isn’t broken.
Here’s a collection of interesting imaginings of mechanical steampunk replacements for the somewhat mundane denizens of the actual natural world. For some people, especially some artists, until there’s been an upgrade or enhancement to anything, there just isn’t any “there” there.

Once Upon A Time
Fairy tales usually begin once upon a time—a time that need not be identified because the tale, and its meaning, are of a timeless nature. The landscape of a fairy tale is often dreamlike, as if to tell us trying to apply normal logic to the story will only confuse the point that the storyteller is trying to make. Fairy tales usually involve dangerous journeys, often following after or searching for a wayward loved one, and entail a getting lost in the mists of time and space. The climax is almost always the discovery of a heretofore unknown inner store of courage in the face of evil and imminent death. Fairy tales tell our child
How to Commission an ArtistI've been commissioning artists for a little over two years now, starting with site money on GaiaOnline and moving to dA from there. One thing that's hard for me to ignore is the number of artists who are concerned about being scammed, either because they've gone through that experience before or because the stories and warnings of it happening all the time proliferate. Commissioners have their own concerns about being scammed by artists. The simple fact of the matter is that it happens. How to Commission an Artist6 years ago in Art Features More Like This
However, I think a good portion of the problem is that many people who want to commission an artist have no experience doing so, and it's not as easy to find instructions on it as, say, how to draw anime eyes. That's why I'm making this guide.
It should be noted that while I mention commissioning through other websites now and then, this is meant as to general guide, and all of the examples are from deviantart.com. Also, this does not

'Life Drawing 5' by algaegoblin
Do you know how to sketch human figures but do you want to refine your anatomy skills? Or do you not know anatomy at all and you are tired to trust your imagination? Did you notice you create disproportions in your drawings?
If you are aspiring artists and you already have your own style, you might as well believe you have no need of a guide, but you are wrong. Before exaggerating human proportions and begin to have your own style, you first have to know the basics.
This little guide is the result of an accurate research and 5 years of high school of art, and it's created for all those who want to learn something new or just make a useful review.
For those who have already studied art, my suggestion is to go to step 6 or trying to repeat all steps in Digital format.
First of all, if you want to learn faster you should draw using traditi
What Harry Potter is to me.This July, something happened that has never happened in pop culture before. A movie that has spanned over ten years, a story that has captivated audiences for a decade now officially came to an end once and for all. The Harry Potter franchise, a story many have followed since the day J.K. Rowling burst on the scene with such an incredible tale of a young boy wizard, finally closed the book in the movie world. The characters we have all watched grow up from sprightly young children to incredibly self-sufficient adults, all had their stories tied together and officially close. What Harry Potter is to me.4 years ago in Personal More Like This
For many years, I have been a fan of this story. I remember when I first read Sorcerer's Stone how captivated I was with this magical world, the things these characters faced, and of course, the young wizard himself, Harry Potter. To me, he was greater than any super hero. More cherished in my mind. The true face of fictional heroism. I was instantly in love.
Now, what started out as an obsession that a youn
Why I Dislike Twilight...BEWARE OF LONG POST ( And Negative(but logical) stuff against Twilight)Why I Dislike Twilight...4 years ago in Personal More Like This
In my opinion Twilight is, I can honestly say the worst book I have ever read.
Bella: I love you Edward
Edward: I love you too you are so beautiful
Bella: No YOU are so beautiful. I love you. You're all sparkly
Edward: You are the most perfect creature ever
1000 pages and 3 books later
Bella: I love you Edward
Edward: I love you you are so beautiful
Bella: No YOU are so beautiful. I love you. You're all sparkly and now we have a mutant child together HOORAY!
OMFG it's just them proliferating their love for each other for 1000+ pages. And right at the end, Smeyers is like I FORGOT, I NEED A PLOT and throws some crap in.
My first problem is the main characters. Every single one is a Mary Sue. They're one dimensional with little to no personality at all. Take Edward, the guy every single girl is supposed to drool over. Edward Cullen is not hot, he is a creepy stalker. He follows her around, he won't let her drive, and
Conversation for Literature WritersJust wondering if anyone else goes through this as well. So I was just reading one of my writings, the last chapter to be exact, in a hopeful attempt to get some newer chapters in. While I'm reading the chapter and my main character, I find myself laughing and shaking my head.Conversation for Literature Writers9 months ago in Personal More Like This
I was genuinely jealous of my main female character. All the stuff she was doing, added with how she thought about things and what not, I'm sitting here saying to myself "if I was in this book I think I would want to fight this chick" only because I would be so jealous and stuff.
But I mean I just would like to know if other writers write and then when they go back and read their stories, do they ever feel some type of way towards their characters? Like seriously, we practically created them and we're jealous, happy, hateful, or some other emotion towards them.
*One would say just rewrite them, but no I think I like my jealous thoughts towards her, lol weird, yes.
