King of Eagles, tall and fair,
Ruler of the Valar royal,
To Iluvatar he remains loyal.
Elbereth resides with him,
Silver'd hair, tall and slim.
She is the Maker of the Star,
She hears all, near and far.
Wrapped in majesty and power,
Robed in earthly tree and flower,
Green her eyes and slim her girth,
Yavanna brought forth the forests in birth.
Aule wrought first the Dwarven folk
In secret, but Illuvatar spoke:
"'Tis not their time - they must keep,
And under mountain must they sleep."
Ulmo is the King of the Sea,
And mariners bow down to he.
His horns sound in the deeps and foam,
Calling Elven stragglers home.
Mandos is the Speaker of Doom,
Gathers dead spirits in his room,
In the House of the Dead he abides,
To Iluvatar only he confides.
Nienna the Weeper is his kin,
Pity she is, and welcomes in
Any who are in need of hope,
Those who mourn she helps to cope.
When Orome the huntsman rides,
All evil creatures before him hide,
Loved by horsemen near and far,
An Old LegendAn Old Legend2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Ages long gone and ages long passed
Shades of grey, man's memory fades fast
The glory days told of old
Shines as brightly as silver and gold
Before the dark, before the strife
Before many of the spans of life
There lied the glory that men bore
The gilded light of Westernesse's shore
That era of brilliance, that age of wealth
That time of wisdom and of great health
Those days are passed or so it is said
As now the great kings of lore lie dead
Is there a hope against such reckless hate?
Where does it lie? The enemy's gate
Draws nearer every day
And now there is little that holds him at bay
But still we hold on to legends and tales
What more will we have when the strength of men fails?
There is still one yet who holds the power
To aid this land in its darkest hour.
From father to son, the title has been given
In the shadows these brave people have striven
To drive away the darkness that besets all
While there is still life in them, men shall not fall
I know the king shall come again, f

I saw the pale queen rise.
I felt the starlight on my skin
as she sailed through the skies.
In her train came others;
a billion points of light,
but none were there as lovely
as the glowing Queen of Night.
And glancing at the countenance
of Varda, Elbereth,
I lost my way and found myself;
my path, I did forget.
Like twilight's child Tinúviel
the star did catch and flee,
and in this darkened meadow
I was left, alone with me.
Bereth vanui, my star has gone:
where are you now, Gilthoniel?
No longer does your light shine down;
where do you go, tar-míriel?
In that far land b'yond Belegaer,
she dwells on matchless mountain high
Yet when the sun is dead and gone
she reigns supreme across the sky.

I dance on lawns of ageless green.
In pasture, field and whither there,
be blossom bright and eagle keen
I find my power and delight:
a Queen I am of all that grows.
Green as beech and summer-bright
the living robe that from me flows.
Sown and raised by my own hand
the shining Trees have given light:
great lamps we hold above the land
by Aulë's craft and Varda's might.
By Elves I am the Mother Earth

Withered, broken branches; dark, black, deadened leaves
Whispering blackened speech to me.
Light, to bright! Bright, to light!
Hisses and mutters of my kinsmen pass through the dae elms.
To light, to bright Elves of old,
To move through the shadowed Mirk,
Oh so bold.
Red, gold and dazzling emerald leaves,
Whispering honeycomb words of grace and glee to me.
Run, climb, play and scamper,
The wood sounds with Elfling laughter.

Why do we love LOTR?Why do we love LOTR?2 years ago in Academic Essays More Like This
Why Do We Love the Lord of the Rings?
Have you ever been rambling on about Frodo and Sam's amazing friendship, or Gandalf's awesome sword-fighting moves, or Aragorn's strong need of shampoo to a non-LOTR friend or relative and suddenly been asked 'For crying out LOUD! What is so great about that story anyway???' and you stop. And think about it. And a rush of words and reasons come flooding into your head all at once and you can't make head or tail out of any, so you end up saying something dumb like, 'I dunno' when really you do know, but it's a feeling you just can't explain. Maybe even a stirring of your heart, that makes you long for the goodness and purity of Middle Earth, the honour and justice, the mercy and truth, the self-sacrifice and faith, perserverance in the midst of tragedy, and, perhaps most of all, good fighting against evil, and winning.
As C.S.Lewis once said; ' If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation i

He feels he cannot walk another step, until he does. The next step is the same, and the next, and he has stopped counting the sunsets and sunrises because measuring eternity has no purpose. He has wandered an eternity already, carrying his small harp for some indeterminable, compulsive reason, because it will be years before he can play again, if ever, and the sand blows into his eyes and into his throat as he sings. His hands are burnt and scarred and his voice is hoarse, and he wants to rip the strings from the taunting harp and scream, but he is unable to do either because it hurts too much.
Every muscle that has been on fire begins to numb from sheer fatigue, and he feels that he will die without food but is too weak from walking to fish or hunt- but then, Maitimo survived thirty-some years without food, didn't he- and now he is thinking of Maitimo again and he swore to himself that he would not think of them right now.&
Tolkien's ElvesTolkien's ElvesTolkien's Elves7 years ago in Academic Essays More Like This
When dealing with such complex works as The Lord of the Rings and its affiliated books, written by J.R.R. Tolkien and in some cases edited by his son Christopher, one becomes saturated by the vast variety of characters and races represented. However, one must keep in mind that all the races can be broken down further than a general classification. An excellent example of this is Elves, the Eldar, Firstborn Children of Iluvatar.
Although all Elves are indeed the Firstborn Children, they can first be divided into two classes: the Calaquendi, the Elves of Light, the High-elves, those Elves who heeded the westward summons and dwelt in Valinor, land of the Gods, during the time of the Two Trees; and the Moriquendi, Elves of the Darkness, who remained in Middle Earth and never saw the Light that was before the Moon and Sun, for they were the lovers of stars and the twilight.
The Calaquendi contained three groups of Elves: the Vanyar, the Noldor, and the

Oh, you wonderful children of Ilúvatar
Your voices make the forests
Be more alive
Even the leaves are greener
When you are around.
And you shine with the pure light
Upon your beautiful faces
And even your light steps
Are full of grace.
Can there be anything
So fair in the whole Arda
As your lands
Or the work of your hands?
Ah, I wish I could
Sing, dance, shine
And take graceful steps
Just as you do
Oh, I wish I could
Speak with such beautiful words
Just as you do.
And my heart is charmed by you
And perhaps there is nothing else
I can do
Than admire you.

And pain of fame
He was my father
His anger like flood
We sealed our Oath
In fire and blood
The flame extinguished
By Oath we're still bound
Through tears and pain
No rest to be found
The blood on my hands
And my hand in chains
What was it for
When nothing remains?
The Light we sought, burns
So close, yet so far
We are not worthy
To touch a star
Burning flame, take me
And clean the stain
Take the cursed Jewel
And end my pain!
In fire it started
In fire it ends
Just like my father

I hate mornings. Especially when you don't want to get up. The alarm clock stationed on the white nightstand beside my bed beeped loudly as I awoke from a dreamless sleep. I sent an arm over to the nightstand, searching clumsily for the snooze button. After a few tries, the obnoxious sound finally stopped. I wanted to doze off again, just like Demyx would, but I knew that I couldn't today. Xemnas had said there was a very important mission, and that we had to be ready for it. Whatever he meant by that. Usually, there was no mission that was really urgent, but I guess even the boss has his days... I hate it when he's in rare form. Everyone does.
Shoving aside my hateful thinking, I slowly opened my eyes to adjust to the bright sunlight pouring through the windows. The moisture returned to my eyes, and I sat up in bed, stretched, and made an effort to get up. My sheets had another idea though. It wouldn't let go of my foot when I got up, and the floor came up to meet me too fast. For bei

Gravity Twisted Passage TrapGravity Twisted PassageGravity Twisted Passage Trap2 years ago in Settings More Like This
This is a stone walled passageway between twenty to fifty feet long that seems to come to a dead end (or there can be a false door at the end). Ten feet into the passage, a modified permanent reverse gravity spell will cause any person to "fall" toward the end of the passage as if falling into a pit. The fall will cause 1d6 points of falling damage per ten feet of passage. The end of the passage essentially becomes the "bottom" of the "pit." A five foot section of the pit's reverse gravity field can be dispelled with a successful dispel magic DC20. The reverse gravity field can be detected with a successful detect trap DC30, but the reverse gravity field cannot be removed with a disable device check.

This is a section of wall within a stone chamber that will teleport away when a PC comes within thirty feet (proximity trigger). The teleporting wall section will leave an opening into an adjoining hidden room containing monsters (often undead or golems) that will immediately attack anyone in the vicinity. This trap can be detected with a detect trap DC30 and disabled with a disable device check DC30. The trap may also be set in conjunction with a second trap designed to close off the exit to the room (wall of fire, wall of stone, prismatic wall, blade barrier) that shares the same proximity trigger.
Demon Face SculptureGolfo's Demon Face on WallDemon Face Sculpture3 years ago in Settings More Like This
These are ten foot tall, eight foot wide stone demon-like faces that appear here and there on the walls within Golfo's labyrinth. The huge face has a wide gaping mouth (lined with pointy, six inch long, stone teeth) and deep set niches for eyes. The mouth forms a six foot high, five wide, three foot deep niche (just big enough for one medium sized person to stand in). Many of these demon face niches are mundane and empty. Some have secret doors in the back of the niche. These secret doors have a magical trigger that causes the stone door to slide up (open) when a living person stands in the niche. Some of these demon face niches contain magical or mundane traps. There is a demon face on either side of the wall containing one of the secret doors.
