I just finished an awesome opportunity. I was asked to be the Costume Designer for a production of Hello Dolly! It was a TON of work but totally worth it. This is the first costume of the main character, the illustration and the way it turned out.
This is part of a project I left aside for lack of material (the dress gets increasingly complex in the following centuries), but I'll pick it up someday when I find a new research trail. These are the layers making up the dress in the 16th century, as far as I could piece it together. I left out other hairdos, though. Maronites for instance wore a striped turban, and Jews a red cap with a rounded peak (they used to wear yellow turbans so large the Turks ended up forbidding them to wear turbans altogether).
Ottoman influence is obvious from this time on, but the sherwal is not a Turkish borrowing – rather the other way around, as it came from Persia many centuries ago.
New Photos!!!! Taken at Acen 2010 I went ginger this time just for fun and I had been cosplaying Donna earlier in the day and it just looked right. Wig is an Arda wig and I swear by them now. 4th Doctor Scarf is by Limebarb.com It was given to me as a gift <3
The pillbox really does complete the look.
Thanks to Elemental for having the time to take pics it was really fun and your work is always amazing!
